We left the other group in silence, before John spoke up, "I've never gone skinny dipping with two girls before."
"You said it didn't count as long as our clothes were still on."
He shrugged, winking at me, "I may or may not have said that just so you would get in."
Currently...
12:00 am on Saturday
"So, Amber, how was your first skinny dipping experience?" Charlie asked as we treked on through the woods.
I blushed at the thought of me skinny dipping. It wasn't really skinny dipping-I mean we still had our clothes on. That didn't count, right? I don't know what got into me. I am a very modest person, and I was in a relationship for God sakes! I did have a lot of fun though, "It was fun."
John smirked, "I know you loved seeing me in only my boxers."
I scoffed with pink cheeks before elbowing him in the arm.
It baffled me how we could go from avoiding eye contact to joking in less than five minutes.
"You're very cute when you blush, Babycakes," John smirked.
Charlie pretended to gag at his comment, "Ewe, please save the mush for the bedroom."
John chuckled a little, "I think we'd be preoccupied doing other things." He made sure to send a wink my way before he wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me into him.
"Shut up," I pretended to be displeased with his comment. Joey wouldn't be happy to hear I was flirting with another guy.
We chatted for a little longer before my phone began to ring,
"Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you"
John and Charlie looked at me with confusion as I fished my phone out of my pocket with crimson splashed on my cheeks.
"Elvis? Really? And who is texting you at midnight?" John questioned as he peered down at my screen to see a text notification from Joey.
I was confused as to why he was texting me, but I opened the message anyway.
Hey! Just checking in :) are you having fun?
A grin grew on my face and I quickly responded with a 'Yeah! Thanks for checking on me! Love you <3"
I was a little confused as I felt John's arm slip from my shoulders, but I ignored it and put my phone away.
We walked a little further before my phone went off again. I was confused as to why he texted me again but I pulled my phone out and opened his message.
Yeah I'm ready to go. Pick you up in 10.
I was confused by his text, and I wasn't sure what to say. I found myself just staring at the screen.
"That doesn't make any sense," John said. I looked over to him in time to see his face go from perplexed to concerned and a little angry.
"Let me see," Charlie insisted before looking over my shoulder. Her face seemed to match John's, but I was still confused.
"He must've accidently texted me. He must have meant to text his mom or sister," I said as I tried to make sense of the message.
What? I texted back in hopes he would answer my question.
All I got was the little word 'read' under my last message.
I looked to John and Charlie, who were mouthing words to each other but stopped when they noticed me looking, "He always responds right away. I'm really confused."
They flashed me weak, sympathetic smiles before Charlie said, "Maybe it's nothing. Let's just keep going."
I nodded a little before putting my phone in my pocket and leading the group. I heard faint whispers behind me, but my mind was preoccupied by thoughts of my boyfriend. Something deep down inside me said that that text wasn't to his mom, but as I opened my heart locket that was around my neck, I convinced myself he was innocent. The picture was one of my favorites of him. He was flashing his award winning smile and his curly, dirty blonde hair fell over the tan skin of his forehead. I remembered when I took the picture, it was on our first anniversary.
I'm not sure how far along we had gotten before a scream echoed in the forest. We stopped in our tracks, looking around.
"Do you think it is anything serious?" I asked quietly, unsure of what to do in this situation.
John was the first to spring into action, "No, probably one of the girls who walked into a spider web." He shrugged, not alerted at all.
Charlie nodded her agreement, still looking at me with that strange look, "It was probably nothing."
I took one last glance around us, moving closer to John.
Two things were wrong with this picture:
I still didn't get a reply from Joey.
And I didn't quite believe that scream was for nothing.
