Ch 7: Water Balloons and Memories

Hey! So, I asked on Instagram and Facebook for suggestions as I wanted to change Madiha. I just couldn't imagine Sohai as Madiha in the future scene Even though I love her :(

Thanks to Chellemichelle who suggested Drashti Dhami. So, with a new cover and new Madiha, here is a new chapter <3

Oh and! The young version of Drashti LOL... Now she had turned into an Aunty /.\

Anyway,

~~~HUSSAIN'S POV~~~
I turned and changed my position while waiting for the alarm to finally beep at seven thirty. I woke up half an hour ago but, what is the point of getting up before time? Neend poori honi chahiye, bas.
My phone finally lit to life and the soft music blasted through its speakers. I yawned and sighed before getting out of the bed. Giving my muscles a good stretch, I drank a glass of water and headed outside. The warm morning sun greeted me along with the cackles coming from every corner of the open field. All the students ran here and there; some were playing around and some were running for their turn to take a shower.
"Dekho lage na kisi ko!" came Madiha's voice as she walked across the wooden deck. Of course, miss. Forever-Serious.
For past two days, all she has been doing is telling the kids to play carefully. First she uses the word 'play' and Then she wants them to be careful. Maine toh aaj tak care nahi ki. Yeh toh fir bhi bache hein.
"Morning Hussain," Nabeel sir tapped on my shoulder and I looked away from Madiha. "Morning sir," I greeted him with a smile.
"Take a shower and come for breakfast. I am going to call all the kids now," he said and walked away. I nodded to myself and went inside my room to collect my belonging. After a short cold shower, I headed to the dining room.
Five rows of four tables each were arranged in the large hall. The table where the buffet was displayed was already covered with kids. I chuckled, shaking my head at how loud this room was and how excited these kids sounded.
Today, another group is going to leave for the river side camping while another one will come back. Our group will be leaving tomorrow.
"Good morning teacher Ji!" I smiled at Madiha as I went over and took my seat on the teacher's table.
"Late again, Hussain," she chuckled in return. Yeah, I am never on time in this room. Always the last one to enter.
Nabeel sir came back to our table and sat down with his plate. Madiha shifted her attention to him, "Nebeel sir, the other group will be back by twelve and we will have lunch together at one. So, You will be leaving around two- two thirty."
"Yeah Madiha, I remember that. It's your third time reminding me," nabeel sir sighed, looking at her.
Everything according to the time, I thought and I kept staring at her until she looked at me again.
"Tum pichley janam main zaroor wall clock rahi hogi," I blurted absentmindedly and Madiha shot me a glare. Oops.
"But still sir, to reach before 4, you need to-"
Nabeel sir silenced her by keeping his hand on her. He chuckled, "we are here on a holiday so just take a break, yeah?"
Madiha pulled her hand away hesitantly and I frowned as she got up. "Wrist watch. It's classier," she winked at me and walked off.
She. Winked. At. Me?!
"Excuse me," I quickly excused myself and ran up to her, "aankh marti ho. Chichori!"
I threw her word back at her and she snickered, covering her mouth with her hand.
"No, but he is right," I shrugged as we picked up a plate each, "just chill. Har waqt bhagti rehti ho, slow down."
She stopped and looked down at her plate, "I don't have time to slow down. There is so much to do. Kya karoon?"
"Kya karoon? Take a break!" I rolled my eyes. We moved down in the line and she passed me a serviette. "Life is too short to stress all the time."
"Short?" She somewhat laughed, making me frown, "for some people- it is. Par unke peeche jo reh jaatey hein unke liye yeh choti si zindagi kisi azaab se kam nahi hoti."
"Azaab? Zindagi azaab nahi hoti."
"Mere liye toh hai."
"Wha-"
"You want bread?" She quickly asked, interrupting me, and I shook my head. She moved on, picked up whatever she wanted and walked off to sit on a table with some students.
I frowned at the floor.
Why is this girl so impossible to understand? Itni alag si. Not once I have seen her breathing peacefully; she always running around. Pagal hai ek number ki. Kitni khoonsurat cheez hai yeh zindagi aur yeh isse azaab samajhti hai.
~~~MADIHA's POV~~~

"Arey poocho hi mat.. Kitni pyaari pyaari titliyaan theen wahan... Haye I wish I could take them home!" Zariya shrieked, spinning in circles. She just couldn't stop talking about the camping near the river.

I smiled at how happy she was and shook my head. She giggled, sitting down beside me, "dekhna, you will have fun tomorrow."

"Yeah! I am sure...." I got off the bed and held her hand, "Par ab chalo, everyone is outside."

"Par mujhe sona hai!" She winced, holding on to the door and I sighed. Bachi hai ek number Ki.

"Chalo!" I said, sternly, and dragged her with me.

We were greeted by the loud voices again. One class had gone for mountain climbing while our's was chilling.

"Dekho aram se!" I gasped as two kids ran past me. "Sorry baji!" The yelled back in unison and I shook my head, smiling.

I gasped again when something covered my eyes. A fabric, I could feel it. Zariya released my hand while I tried reaching out for her's, "what's going on?"

"Aankh micholi," someone whispered near my ear and I shivered. They were so close, I could feel their warm breath fanning my cheek.

Suddenly several hands grabbed my arms and dragged me with them. They were small and I knew they belonged to my students.

"One.... Two," they sang together as they made me go in circles. Once they reached ten, they released my arm and disappeared after giving me a slight push.

"But I don't want to play," I made face, reaching for my eyes. Someone held my wrist again, "come on teacher Ji. Don't spoil the fun. You have to!"

Hussain!

"Aap? Zaroor aap hi ka Kiya dhara hai yeh. Mera haath chorein aur jaane dein mujhe," I frowned at him, although all I could see was plain darkness.

"So, that means teacher Ji haar gayeen?" He asked and I heard my students snickering behind me. Wow, he is making fun of me in front of them.

"Uh fine! What do I have to do?" Feeling defeated, I kept my hands on my hips and huffed.

"That's like a good girl," Hussain chuckled and I rolled my eyes, "now you have to catch someone and guess who they are..... Starting.... Now!"

I instantly reached forward, hoping to catch him but, his footsteps suggested that he was gone already. Everyone cackled around me, making me confused. I could hear so many voices and footsteps around me.

"Madiha, right!" I heard Zariya's laugh and I grinned, instantly reaching out for my Right side. I almost grabbed a hand when it slipped away.

Sighing, I straightened my back. This is not working.

I tried one more time before falling to the ground and holding on to my ankle. As I released a soft cry, I heard a few gasp. So many footsteps approached me at once and quickly reached out to wrap my arm around someone.

"Aur yeh hai Vardah!" I squealed, peeling of my blind fold. "No!" She winced in my arms, pouting, and I hugged her, laughing.

"I won!" I shrieked, kissing her forehead, and got up from the ground.

"Cheater," Hussain accused me all of a sudden and I rolled my eyes. "No one told me I couldn't use tricks!"

"Sir, saari larkiyaan aisi hi hoti hein! Cheaters," Arif commented at that and my jaw dropped. As if he knows.

"Haww! Girls are the best! Tum boys cheater ho!" Vardah spat back. For her height, and fragile appearance, she was too loud. I watched the mini war break out as Soon everyone was yelling over each other, debating on who is the best.

"Tch tch teacher ji! See what you did," Hussain whispered in my ear and I glared at him. He was the one who started it!

"There is a way to stop them," he shrugged, making me raise an eyebrow. He smirked at me and raised his hand to his mouth. Curling his fingers between his lips, he whistled, and everyone froze on their spot.

"Girls versus boys! Balloon fight... What's say?" He asked, yelling and everyone exchanged looks. "Really? balloons?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Wait teacher ji," he winked and turned to the kids, "ready or not?"

Everyone cheered and Hussain went back to his room.

Wait, did he just wink at me again? ugh!

Hussain came back with six packets off water balloons and explained the rules to everyone.

"You can target one person as many times as you like but, once you hit them, they are out of the game and you get to keep their balloon."

"And remember! The team with most players left- wins!" he finished and gave an hour's time to both the teams to fill up their water balloons. While I opted out and sat on a bench, Zariya ran to the kitchen department to save herself and Hussain helped the boys.

The match began soon and the girls were already losing since they were low in numbers. I laughed at how everyone ran around like maniacs. Something these balloons reminded of were some beautiful moments that were long gone......

~~

"Yeh bohot hi stupid idea hai Aziza!" I whispered as she dragged me to the terrace. Even though the house was empty, I still had a bad feeling about being caught. Her plan was going to get us in deep trouble anyway.

"Oh ho, Madiha, shut up. Sir mat khao," Aziza groaned, filling up two balloons with water.

I watched as she moved over to the small brick wall. Following her, I gripped on to it and looked ahead to see a man, wearing a white crisp shirt and files in his hand, coming closer to Aziza's house. I looked at her and she smirked.

"Mujhpe line mari thi na! Abhi batati hoon," she muttered and I sighed.

"Line nahi Mari Thi. It's called healthy flirting. I guess he genuinely likes you," I told her but, she was too busy aiming the balloon at him. "You are my friend. Stop defending him!"

My eyes widened when I realised what she was up to. I looked back at the guy, who was busy reading his file while walking. I knew he had a job interview to get to and I had to stop Aziza before she ruins it.

I didn't even get a chance to blink and it was too late. The balloon landed right on his shoulder, drenching his possibly new shirt. The water splashed on his files too, dripping the paper. He looked up and I gasped, instantly hiding behind the wall.

Faisal Bhai...

Aziza quickly crouched down, beside me, staring at me in horror.

"I think he was going to somewhere important," I told her, biting my lips.

"Did I mess up?" She asked, whispering and I silently nodded. She blinked at the floor before running towards the terrace door. "Aziza where are you going?"

"Mafi maangne," she yelled and I ran after her.

She ran out of the house and the main gate and looked around. When she couldn't see him, she sighed and turned around only to flinch a little. I stopped in my tracks when Faisal bhai appeared from behind the cream coloured wall.

My mind kept debating if I should give them some private time or should I stay, in case he tries to harm her.

But he would never do that.

"S..sorry about that," Aziza stammered, nervously. I lowered my head, holding my laugh back.

"It's ok, you made my morning by at least exchanging exactly three words with me," he said casually and I raised an eyebrow.

Aziza was awkwardly playing with her fingers when he added, "but, on one condition. You will go out with me for a coffee."

My jaw dropped at that while she frowned. Faisal bhai turned to me and gave me an assuring smile. I smiled back.

"Oh I can't, amma abba won't like it," she sighed, shaking her head.

"But they are in London!" I blurted absentmindedly and they instantly turned towards me. While Faisal bhai grinned, Aziza gave me a death stare.

"Fine, but I get to choose the place," Aziza groaned, still staring at me and Faisal bhai chuckled. "Anything you like, I am sure I'll love it too. But, My treat!"

"Ab jaayein. I am sure you had somewhere important to be," Aziza quickly said, trying to get his eyes off her and yeah, he did look away.

Looking down at his wrist watch, he gasped, "oh shoot! I had an interview!"

He walked backwards before turning around and jogging away from us.

"Paas ho kar aana warna shakal mat dikhana!" Aziza yelled out of nowhere and I instantly smirked at her. She scowled, smacking my arm.

"Don't worry, mujhe jeetne ki aadat hai! Madiha just saw the demo," Faisal bhai yelled back before getting inside a cab.

I looked back at Aziza who was smiling at the ground. Giving her shoulder a soft jerk with mine, I made her look up at me, "did I?"

She chuckled, shaking her head, "he is kinda cute."

~~

"Out!" Hussain's voice rang in my ears as I broke away from my thought. Rubbing my fingers along my waterline, I pushed away the tears that were beginning to fall.

I looked up and watched as another girl got out. A wave of disappointed sighs washed past me and I got up. I saw Arif was aiming at a girl who was already aiming at another boy. I picked up a balloon and went behind him. Before he could throw his, I threw mine at him. My heart cringed when he howled, crouching to the ground. That must have hurt.

He groaned, passing me his balloon and went to sit outside. I giggled, turning around to find my other target. This is actually fun.

A balloon flew by me, making me flinch. I looked up to see a boy staring at me with his mouth covered with his hands like he was scared of the scolding that might follow. I gave him an evil smirk and threw my balloon at him, getting him right on his foot. He sighed and walked out.

"Yes!" I shrieked and ran over to the balloon basket. There were only a few left in there. I grabbed a pink one and turned around, "woah!"

Hussain stood right behind me with a large balloon in his hand. At least, it looked bigger than mine. He aimed it at me and I closed my eyes, covering my face already. I didn't want to feel what that balloon feels like while it burst right against your skin.

When I didn't feel the balloon for a few more seconds, I pulled my hand away and opened my eyes. Hussain stood a few inches away from me, smiling.

"Jaane diya," he whispered, smiling wider, and turned around. I sighed but, just then he added, "tum larkiyaan bhi kya yaad karogi."

I narrowed my eyes at his back and threw my balloon at him. It splashed right on his shoulder and being the bitch that Karma already is, that water came right back at me, drenching my face.

Hussain gasped as he turned around but soon a smirk took over when he saw my wet face.

"See, you get what you give, cheater!" He commented and I frowned. "Too bad, you let me go, Loser!"

He aimed his balloon at me and I pointed my finger at him, "rules, mister! You made them."

"Rules are meant to be broken!" He smirked right before his expressions changed as he stumbled forward.

He held on to my shoulder for support and his balloon bursted right there. I gasped. Looking for his shoulder, I saw two girls giggling and I realised they had both aimed at Hussain.

I smirked at him as he pulled away, "Now you may leave the ground!"

"Kaisi cheaters se pala para hai mera," he muttered under his breath and I raised an eyebrow. "Kaise bache se pala para hai humara."

"Oh hello madam! Bache mann ke sacche," he made a face at me and I chuckled.

"So? Everything is fair in love and war," I said, defending my 'cheater' tag.

Hussain took a step forward and bent a little to look into my eyes, "So what is it? Love.... Or ..... War?

I blinked, staring right into his chocolate brown eyes. The setting sun shinned in them, making the black freckles stand out. I could feel them smirking at me silently.

My lost voice came back when someone threw a balloon at my back. Yelping, I stumbled forward and twisted my ankle but an arm snaked around me. Hussain held me firmly, saving me from that fall. He slowly pulled his arm away and took a step back, only to be stopped by mine. I was fisting the Fabric of his shirt. Instantly letting go, I turned around.

"I guess we are both out," I mumbled before walking away, hugging myself.

~~~HUSSAIN's POV~~~
The day ended with a nice dinner and a talent night with kids. We didn't bother figuring out who won by the end of the balloon match but, it was the highlight of this trip so far.
I smiled, looking ahead of me, and remembering my little encounter with Madiha. She looked so adorably nervous like a lost puppy. Those big eyes, confused, No mask and that teacher mode turned off.
Pulling out my phone, I opened the gallery and scrolled through the pics, viewing all the amazing ones that I took on this trip. Ones that caught my attention were from the game we played this morning. While everyone played and teased Madiha, I was busy saving some memories in my phone.
I will be leaving Pakistan with dad and Shehry and as decided, I will assist Shehry and learn from him. Apparently dad doesn't have Time to waste on me. At least, that's what he told me when he called last night.
When I came here, I was regretting my decision about this trip. Now when I will be leaving in less than a month, this place feels like life. I am going to miss this place so much.
Gosh! I think I have fallen in love with this country and its people.
