~~~MADIHA's POV~~~
No, he is not real. He can't be. I looked away from him and told the driver to drive as I reached out for the door. Before I could close the door, it opened wide again and a hand grabbed my arm. I panicked, looking up at the man as he bent down a little to reveal his face.
"Kasim?" I managed to utter.
No, he is anyone but Kasim. I kept telling myself while he ducked down to look at the driver.
"You can leave, She is coming with me. Keep the change," He spoke as he passed him a couple of notes and the driver nodded at him. My breath hitched when he turned to look at me.
"We need to talk," his deep voice, laced with authority, like always, made me shiver. It wasn't him who scared me, it was the fact that this man is supposed to be dead.
"Madiha please," he sighed when I didn't move. I blinked, looking down at my lap before stepping out of the car.
Gathering much courage, I looked up at him and found him staring at me. His face looked a lot heavier than before; even though he had a beard, I could still see the sharp edges of his jaw. Those piercing brown eyes were still the same. The scar on his forehead made him look a lot tougher than I could have ever imagined. He seemed to have put on a lot of weight too, or maybe those were just his toned muscles. I couldn't tell because of his blazer.
This man was completely different from Kasim; no way they could be the same person. No way he could be alive and living here, leaving us to suffer.
I had a feeling that everything was going to come crashing down once again. I didn't want to be told the life I have lived for the past many years were just a lie. That the man I was dying for was always alive. That the man I had so much respect for was never worthy of it. A part of me didn't want Kasim to be alive.
"Who are you?" I found myself asking him. I wanted answers and he had them.
"Kaisi ho?" He casually asked, ignoring me, and I huffed in anger. "Main ajnabiyon Se baat Nahi karti."
He sighed and stepped forward. "Jaanta hoon naraz ho mujhse. Isiliye Maafi maang ne Aaya hoon."
I instantly stepped away from him, narrowing my eyes at him in disbelief, "Maafi? Kis baat Ki? Aap hein kaun?"
"Kasim hoon main," he spoke a little louder and held my arm, pulling me closer, "tumhaara Kasim."
I blinked at him, too stunned to make a move. Everything had stopped moving around me for a moment. My throat felt dry.
"Nahi," I managed to whisper as I stepped away from him again, "Nahi lagte aap mere Kuch. kyunki Jis Kasim Ko main jaanti Thi, woh Marr chuke hein."
"Ma—"
"He is dead!" I screamed, cutting him off, "suna aapne? Marr chuke hein woh!"
"Madiha I know you are angry, but please hear me out once," his voice softened, "Let me justify my actions."
I stared at him in disgust, "justify what? Why you left us all in pain? What made you so selfish? How are you even alive?"
I closed my eyes, sucking in a deep breath. My head was spinning from all that was going on in there.
"Sab bataunga. Par pehle tum andar Chalo," he insisted but, I shook my head. "I don't trust you."
"Madiha, I just want to talk," he sighed, "tumhein Amma Ki kasam, ek baar Meri baat sun Lo. I would never hurt you, you know that."
"Says the person who left me to suffer," I chuckled, taunting him, and looked away.
~~~HUSSAIN's POV~~~
Reply, reply. Come on yaar! I sighed. I was really expecting a reply from her after my last text yaar!
"Oh hello, lover boy, thora dhyan yahan bhi de Lo," I snapped out of my thoughts and rolled my eyes at the annoying face in front of me.
"Yeh meeting baad main Nahi ho sakti?" I asked and he shook his head.
"What's up with you?" Shehry raised an eyebrow at me and I sighed. "Afzal is still not here and I am stuck. I wanna go home on t—"
Before I could finish, Natalie came in and looked at us with worried expression. "Mr Afzal won't be able to make it today."
Once she left, I shifted my gaze to Shehry and huffed. He just shrugged at me and got up to leave.
"Ab mai ghar jaau?" I yelled after him, Just to be sure.
"Jaa. Marr. Tu office aata hi kyu hai?" He groaned from a distance and a few staff members snickered around us.
Tujhe pareshaan karne, grinning to myself, I collected all my stuff and shoved them in my bag before running out of the office. On my way, I picked up the custom made poster of Madiha's photos from a store and bought some flowers and chocolates, prepared for whatever surprise she was planning. Upon reaching, I ran straight to our bedroom but found no one there.
"Oye, Bhabhi Kahan hai?" I asked Maha. She looked up from her books and shrugged. "Haven't seen her since I came back from school."
Aisa kya plan Kar rahi hai?
"Jitni concentration Se padh rahi hai na, hundred se neeche na laayeen!" I told her before turning around to leave.
"Oh what! Look who is talking- a loser himself!" She jeered behind me, making me raise an eyebrow. Well, ouch!
"Cool!" I shrugged, "ice cream laya tha, ab nahi doonga."
She gasped and I heard the chair moving before she rushed to come around in front of me, "OK sorry sorry sorry!"
"Not accepted," I stuck my tongue out at her and walked past her.
"Bhaiii! Sorry na!" She winced behind me; I heard her footsteps following me, "Acha baba, you are best and the most intelligent man ever!"
"Better than you?" I asked and she nodded. "Ab ice cream do."
Taking a few steps away from her, I cleared my throat, "uhm, I didn't buy any!"
"What!" She gasped at me as I ran away from her, "I hate you!"
"I love you too, Maha the Monkey!" I yelled back, laughing, while she stood there, fuming with anger. "You Hussain the... The hippo, yeah that's what you are!"
"Kyun tang karte ho, Hussain," mama's voice stopped me and I turned around. She was sitting on the couch, "kitni baar Kahun? Bare ho jao beta. Umar dekho apni."
"Oh ho mama," I rolled my eyes as I plopped down beside her and kept my head in her lap, "aap Toh aise Bol rahe ho jaise main koi seventy years Ka Buddha hoon."
"Seventy Nahi par twenty seven Ke Toh hone wale ho na!" She patted my cheek before running a hand through my hair. I sighed, adjusting myself on the couch.
"Ho jaunga bara aur dus bara saalon baad," I pouted at her and she chuckled, running her fingers through my hair. "Dus bara! Tab tak tumhaare bacche bhi tumse zyada samajhdaar ho chuke honge."
I just giggled at her comment and chose to stay quite.
"Madiha kaisi hai?" She asked after a while and I frowned at her. "Theek hai, Kyun?"
"Mera matlab woh Nahi hai, Hussain," she sighed and I sat up, urging her to elaborate, "tum dono Ke beech ab Sab theek hai na?"
I smiled, realising what she meant, "yeah, mama, it's going to take a while but things are falling into place."
"I just want you two to be happy," she caressed my cheek and I held her hand to kiss her palm. "We are happy. Trust me."
"I trust you!" Rabia yelled before mama could speak, and I looked up at her. She came in through the main door and threw everything on the couch, Including herself. "That was a long day!"
I looked behind her, hoping for Madiha to come in too. If they weren't together, then where was she?
"Neha gave these for you," Rabia pulled out a container and gave it to mom, "she said your recipe was amazing!"
"Where is Madiha?" I asked her, curiously, and she rolled her eyes. "Banda khairiyat hi pooch leta hai."
"Tch! Bata na!" I groaned, making her chuckle.
"Zara sabar karo. Gayi hogi yaheen kaheen. Surprise plan karna itna bhi asan Nahi hota," she smirked at me and I looked down at my watch. "But it's six already."
"Oh!" She mouthed, frowning down at her phone, "she didn't even call you?"
"Nope," I shook my head.
"strange, but she was going to give you a call to let you know your clothes are on the bed. You better wear those," she said and I nodded, "go get ready. Maybe she is on her way?"
"I guess," I shrugged before heading upstairs.
~~~MADIHA's POV~~~
My hands were sweating. As much as I wanted him to come back, This is no less than a nightmare now. He broke my trust. But My pain is nothing in front of what Amma went through; how abba has suffered. How can he do that to them?
"When I completed my bachelors, I was in a desperate need of Job to pay for my studies. I didn't want abba To take more money from the bank," he spoke. A waiter came by and placed our drinks in front of us. I stared at the cold coffee, numbly, before pushing it away from me.
"My roommate introduced me to a man who owned a visa company. They helped students from India and Pakistan to get Work permits and Residency in London," he added while I sat their, listening to him patiently, "I was earning so much from that job that I wanted us to get married and settled down but luck was not with me."
I looked away from his face. I didn't want to trust his lies and his face was easiest to fall for.
"That company was a scam. They were giving out illegal permits and soon the blame was on me because I was the one approving the documents."
"What?" I mumbled to myself but he nodded.
"That's when my roommate arranged a fake ID for me and sent me to Pakistan as soon as possible. I was going to tell abba everything Madiha," he reached out to hold my hands but I scooted away from him.
He sighed and looked away.
"But the same night Aziza died and everyone was devastated. I looked at you and..." His voice softened, forcing me to look up at him, "I hated seeing you in that state. I decided I didn't want to drag all of you into my mess and I left for Canada instead of going back to London. I had to fix everything and I couldn't stay at home. Every time I would look at one of you, I would feel like I am cheating on everyone by hiding my truth."
So much I once felt for this man! I didn't realise a tear had left my eye until it dropped on my hand.
"Mujhe Nahi Pata tha woh plane crash ho jaayega, Madiha! I wanted to come back but I couldn't. Majboori thi meri," he shook his head, disappointed, and ran a hand through his hair.
"I didn't know what to do or where to go. Life was a mess and I had no money to buy meals, let alone a plane ticket to come back. Things were getting worse but then I had an accident."
I gasped when he mentioned that. He gave me a soft smile and I looked away.
"A business man found me. I told him th-that I am an o-orphan. He took me in and soon I was a big part of his company. Not just his company, but I even own this," he looked around himself, "many hotels like these. I am finally successful and free, Madiha. Trust me, I was going to come and get you guys. I—"
That's why Umair sahab refused to approve the claim! Jo mara hi Nahi, uski insurance kaise claim ho sakti hai?
"Successful?" I cut him off and stood up from the chair, "yeh hai aapki success? Aapko andaza bhi hai aapki is so called success ne hum sabko kitna rulaya hai ? Aapke jaane ke baad hamare saath kya kya Hua? Kitna Kuch saha hai abba ne? Kitna royeen hein Amma?"
"Janta hoon Madiha, I know it was a tough time for everyone," he stood up, "main bhi tardpa hoon tum sabke liye. Bohot baar khayal Aaya tumhein call karne Ka. Par phir ruk Gaya. I wanted to stand on my feet first and then surprise you!"
"Yeah," I chuckled sarcastically, "what an amazing surprise."
He sighed at my comment and walked around the table, "I know you are angry and it's justified. Haq banta hai tumhaara. Chalo, let's go back to Pakistan. I'll talk to abba, explain him my situation and then we will bring them here. Sab theek ho jaaye—"
He was about to hold my arm again when yanked his hand away in anger.
"Kuch theek Nahi hoga!" I screamed, and showed him my left hand, "I am married now. It's all over!"
"Toh talaq de do usse!" He shrugged so casually, "waise bhi Tum mujhse pyaar karti ho- you know that! Give me a chance at least, Hum Bohot khush rahenge, Madiha."
"Aap kitne gire hue insaan hai, iss baat Ka ehsaas Mujhe aaj Hua hai," I grunted, fisting my hands.
I gasped when he reached for my hands again and forcefully pulled them to his face. I curled my fingers, trying to pull my hand away when he slapped his face with them. "Nikaal Lo apna gussa. Lo, maro Mujhe."
"Leave my hand!" I screamed, trying free myself and he left me instantly. I took a few steps away from him, in a desperate need of distance.
"See, you can't even hurt me. You know why? Because you love me!" He claimed and I wanted nothing more than running away from him, "yes Madiha! You Lo—"
"No!" I yelled again, shutting him up again, "Nahi karti main aapse pyaar. Haan izzat karti Thi aapki par aaj woh bhi khatam ho gayi."
I ran backwards, stumbling across the tiled floor. My vision was blurry and I could hardly see anything, but I needed to get out of here.
Hugging myself, I turned to look at him for one last time, "I hate you. You heard me? I hate you! Ho sake Toh apni shakal Mujhe fir kabhi mat dikhana!" He stared at me, expressionlessly, as I cried and ran out.
I hate him. I hate myself. I hate How this man was my life once. He ruined everything! My whole life was a lie. All my struggles were for nothing. All those tears for this man, who was never worthy of them!
Wiping my eyes, I look up at the sky, no, he is not worth my tears. Not anymore. He is dead and he better remain that way!
"Ma'am!" Someone yelled from a distance, snapping me out of my trance. I sucked in a deep breath and looked around to find the source of the voice. Wahab!
I sighed, seeing him at a distance, but before I could approach him, a black van pulled over in front of me. As soon as the door opened, I stepped back, panicking, and collided with someone behind me.
"Shhh relax, It's going hurt a little, baby," his voice made me shiver as something pricked my arm, slowly taking the light away from me.
