Chapter 12
"Saana! I know my best friend! Sidharth won't make you feel unwanted,"
Mohana began, her voice filled with sincerity as she sat beside Saana on the bed.
"Yes, he might be short-tempered at times, but he would never, ever abuse you. That's not who he is."
Saana looked up at Mohana, her eyes brimming with tears. The words were comforting, but the fear still clung to her heart. She had been hurt before—mistrusted, abused, and left to pick up the pieces of her shattered self. The thought of opening up again, even to someone as seemingly good as Sidharth, was terrifying.
"But what if... what if things change?"
Saana whispered, her voice trembling.
"People can change, Mohana. What if he becomes someone different after we're married?"
Mohana gently took Saana's hands in hers, her grip firm but kind.
"I understand your fear, Saana. After everything you've been through, it's completely normal to feel this way. But I also know Sidharth, and I know the kind of person he is at his core. He cares deeply about the people he loves. He’s not perfect—none of us are—but he’s loyal, and he’s protective. And most importantly, he respects you."
Saana’s tears spilled over as she looked down at their joined hands. The thought of being with someone who truly respected her, who wouldn’t belittle or hurt her, was something she had almost given up on. Yet, here was Mohana, reassuring her with such conviction that it was hard not to believe her.
"And I know this might be hard to hear,"
Mohana continued softly,
"but love isn’t just about the absence of pain or fear. It’s about the presence of trust, respect, and care. Sidharth might have his flaws, but I can promise you this—he will never cross the lines that were crossed in your past. He will stand by you, even when things are tough."
Sahil, who had been quietly listening, finally spoke up.
"Saana, we’re not trying to pressure you into anything. But we want you to know that we’re here for you, no matter what you decide. And if you choose to take this step with Sidharth, we believe it could lead to something beautiful."
Saana looked between Mohana and Sahil, her heart heavy with the weight of her past but also with a glimmer of hope. She had seen the way Sidharth treated his family, the way he was gentle with her even in their brief interactions. Maybe, just maybe, this was her chance to heal, to find happiness again.
"I... I just don’t want to make a mistake,"
she murmured, her voice choked with emotion.
Mohana pulled her into a comforting hug.
"It’s okay to be scared, Saana. But you don’t have to go through this alone. We’re all here with you, and Sidharth is too. Take your time, and when you’re ready, you’ll know what to do."
Saana clung to Mohana, letting out all the emotions she had been holding in. As the tears flowed, she felt a small, tentative seed of trust begin to take root in her heart. Maybe she wasn’t ready to fully embrace it yet, but she could at least consider the possibility that this time, things might be different.
And as she sat there, surrounded by the warmth and support of those who cared about her, she realized that maybe, just maybe, she could give herself a chance at happiness again.
Mohana's words had a way of soothing the turmoil in Saana's heart, slowly breaking down the walls she had built around herself. There was something in the way Mohana spoke about Sidharth, something that felt genuine and real—a sense of trust that began to seep into Saana's own thoughts.
Taking a deep breath, Saana wiped the remaining tears from her cheeks. She looked at Mohana, then at Sahil, who was watching her with a mixture of concern and hope.
"Theek hai,"
Saana said softly, her voice steadying as she spoke.
"I will give myself a chance."
Mohana’s face lit up with a warm smile, and she squeezed Saana's hand gently.
"I’m so proud of you, Saana. This is a big step, and I know it’s not easy. But you’re strong, and I believe in you."
Sahil nodded in agreement, his eyes full of reassurance.
"You’re doing the right thing, Saana. Just remember, you don’t have to rush into anything. Take things at your own pace."
Saana felt a small wave of relief wash over her. For so long, she had been trapped in the fear of repeating the past, but now, with Mohana and Sahil’s support, she could see a different path opening up before her—a path that might lead to healing, to trust, and perhaps even to love.
She wasn’t sure what the future held, and the fear hadn’t completely disappeared, but for the first time in years, she felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe Sidharth was someone she could trust, someone who would understand her, and maybe, just maybe, she could allow herself to feel again.
"Thank you,"
Saana whispered, her voice filled with gratitude.
"Thank you for being here for me."
Mohana pulled her into another hug, holding her tightly.
"Always, Saana. We’re family, and we’ll always be here for you."
As they embraced, Saana closed her eyes, letting herself feel the warmth of their support. She wasn’t alone in this journey, and with that thought, she felt a little stronger, a little more ready to face whatever came next.
The next day, as the morning sun filtered through the windows, filling the dining room with a soft glow, the Patel Villa was alive with the usual chatter over breakfast. The aroma of freshly brewed tea and the clinking of utensils filled the air, but for Saana, the moment felt heavier than usual.
She sat at the table, her mind racing as she replayed the events of the previous night. Mohana’s reassuring words, Sahil’s steadfast support—they had given her the strength to make a decision she never thought she’d be ready for.
