Chapter 11

Sana was pacing back and forth in her room, her thoughts spiraling out of control. The walls felt like they were closing in on her, the weight of the evening’s events pressing down on her chest. She could still hear the echoes of laughter and celebration from downstairs, where everyone was rejoicing over her and Sidharth’s engagement. But for Sana, it was too much, too soon. The suddenness of it all was making her feel suffocated, as if she couldn’t breathe.

How could she possibly accept this marriage right now? How could she move forward when her past still haunted her, gnawing at her every time she dared to imagine a future? The memories she had tried so hard to bury were now resurfacing, stronger and more painful than ever. She felt trapped, cornered by expectations and her own fears.

As she paced, her mind racing, there was a soft knock on the door. She barely noticed it until the door creaked open slightly, and a familiar voice called out gently.

“Sana? May I come in?”

Sana turned toward the voice, her heart skipping a beat. It was Mohana, her friend who had always seemed to understand her without her having to say a word. Behind Mohana stood Sahil, his expression one of quiet concern.

Sana nodded, trying to muster a smile, but it was weak, barely holding up against the turmoil inside her. Mohana walked in, her eyes never leaving Sana’s face, reading the distress etched into her features.

“I know you’re in a dilemma, Sana,”

Mohana began, her voice soft but firm. She walked closer, taking Sana’s hands in hers.

“And I know that what happened to you six years ago… it’s not something you can easily forget or move past.”

At those words, the dam that Sana had been holding back all evening finally broke. Tears welled up in her eyes, spilling over as she tried to hold herself together. But the pain was too much, too overwhelming. She couldn’t keep it inside any longer.

Sana broke down completely, her knees buckling as she crumpled onto the bed. Mohana and Sahil were quick to support her, guiding her to sit down as she sobbed uncontrollably.

“I’m so scared, Mohana,”

Sana cried, her voice trembling with the weight of her fears.

“I don’t know if I can do this. I don’t know if I can trust again, if I can open my heart to someone… What if I’m making a mistake? What if… What if I’m not enough?”

Mohana sat beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, while Sahil sat on her other side, his presence a comforting anchor in the storm of her emotions. They didn’t say anything for a moment, letting Sana cry, letting her release the fear and pain that had been bottled up inside her for so long.

“You don’t have to do anything you’re not ready for, Sana,”

Mohana finally said, her voice gentle and soothing.

“We’re all here for you, and no one expects you to just forget everything that happened. But you’re stronger than you think, and you deserve happiness.”

Sana sniffled, wiping her tears with the back of her hand.

“But what if I can’t find that happiness? What if… What if I can’t be the person everyone wants me to be?”

Sahil, who had been silent until now, spoke up, his voice filled with quiet determination.

“Sana, you don’t have to be anything for anyone. You just need to be yourself. Sidharth isn’t expecting you to be perfect or to have it all figured out. He just wants to be there for you, to support you. And so do we.”

Sana looked at Sahil through her tear-filled eyes, feeling a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness. She wanted to believe his words, to trust that she could find happiness again, even if the path was unclear.

Mohana squeezed her hand, drawing her attention back.

“You don’t have to decide anything tonight. Take your time, Sana. Think about what you want, what will make you happy. We’re all here to support you, no matter what you choose.”

Sana nodded, the tight knot in her chest loosening just a little. The storm of emotions was still there, but the presence of her friends, their unwavering support, gave her a lifeline. She wasn’t alone in this.

As the tears continued to fall, Mohana and Sahil stayed by her side, offering her the strength she needed to face the uncertainties ahead.

While Sana was grappling with her emotions, Sidharth was experiencing a very different side of the same situation. Sitting alone in his room, he felt a strange mix of emotions, but more than anything else, he felt a sense of peace that he hadn’t felt in years. He had been through his own battles, had locked away his heart after being deeply hurt in the past, but somehow, with Sana, things were different.

He replayed the last few weeks in his mind—the way they had grown closer during Sahil’s wedding, how her smile had begun to bring him a quiet joy, and how he found himself thinking about her at the most unexpected moments. What surprised him most was the ease with which he could talk to her, how naturally their conversations flowed, and how being around her felt right.

When his father had first sent him Sana’s picture with the message,

“This is the girl we chose for you! What do you think, Sidharth?”

he had been caught off guard. He wasn’t sure how to react at first—Sana, his friend, as his wife? It was a thought that had never crossed his mind. But as the days passed and the idea began to settle in, he found himself growing more and more comfortable with it. He hadn’t realized it before, but he had already started developing feelings for her, feelings that were now growing stronger with the prospect of their future together.

A soft smile played on his lips as he leaned back in his chair, remembering their last conversation. There was something about Sana that drew him in, something that made him feel at home. He had been so used to keeping people at a distance, to protecting his heart from getting hurt again, but with her, it was different. The walls he had built around himself were slowly coming down, brick by brick.

He could see a future with her—a future where he wasn’t alone, where he could share his life with someone who understood him, someone who brought light into his world. The thought brought a warmth to his chest, a sense of contentment that he hadn’t felt in a long time.

And while he knew that Sana might still be struggling with her own fears and doubts, he was ready to be patient. He was ready to stand by her, to support her in whatever way she needed. He wasn’t in a rush to force anything; he just wanted to give their relationship the time and space it needed to grow naturally.

For the first time in years, Sidharth felt truly hopeful. He was no longer haunted by the ghosts of his past; instead, he was looking forward to a future that seemed brighter than he had ever imagined. Sana had brought color back into his life, and he was determined to cherish that, to hold onto it with everything he had.

As he sat there, thinking about her, he realized that he was, in a way, already in love with her. It wasn’t a sudden realization, but rather a gradual one, like the dawn breaking over the horizon, bringing light to the darkness. He had found someone who made him want to try again, to open his heart and let love in.

With that thought, Sidharth made a decision. He would give this relationship his all, not just because it was expected of him, but because he wanted to. He wanted to make Sana happy, to see her smile, to be the one she could lean on when times were tough. And in doing so, he knew that he would find his own happiness too.

Sidharth was at peace knowing that he had finally found someone he could see a future with, someone who made him feel whole again. And with that peace came a quiet determination—to nurture this relationship, to protect it, and to let it grow into something beautiful.

He couldn’t wait to see what the future held for them, but for now, he was content just knowing that he was on the right path, a path that would lead him to a happiness he had long thought was out of reach.
