Kira Addams worked for the Umbrella Corporation for as long as she could remember, being first recruited when she was but 16 years old as a scientist, and later in 1998 she was upgraded to security and placed in the Arklay Mansion for the Looking Glass House Project along with two others, Alice and Spencer, a couple who to the public was married.

And while she was close friends with Alice, she and Spence weren't on the best terms, which of course would make things slightly awkward in the near future.
