It was raining that night and a metallic scent had permeated the air.
Backing away with a large leap, Rin held the right side of her thoracic cavity. Blood soaked her light purple shirt and she coughed up blood. "You actually used your own wife as a shield?"
The pureblood guffawed, "to do you damage? Of course I would. I never loved that woman in the first place. It had all been set up by the Senate."
Rin tightly gripped the weapon in her left hand; she was about to attack but her whole body had felt like it was made out of lead and her the sight from her lavender eyes became blurred. The vampire huntress dropped down on knee, her body quivering endeavoring to stand tall again. But the redhead was to no avail and fell to the gray cemented ground.
The water droplets from the gray clouds continued to pound harder onto the earth's surface and aroma of Rin's blood became stronger as it flowed out of her wound as a thin miniature stream on the ground.
The black haired pureblood licked his bloody fingers with his long red tongue, "it seems like the poison is finally taking effect."
'I made an error. Him utilizing his innocent wife like that, I had never calculated from the data I have read about him.' She admitted in her thoughts. 'I must not lose consciousness. Move body, move!' Rin urged herself, but it was getting harder and harder for her not to be taken into the sweet cold darkness.
Because he had been wary of the vampire huntress' resistance towards poisons, the blue eyed pureblood didn't dare to approach her. Her prowess even from someone of the mighty Kiba Clan was abnormally strong. But he didn't had to trend carefully no more. From the girl's blood, he could have smelled the scent of purebloods that she killed and devoured, that her father did, that her mother did, that her grandfather did, that her grandmother did, that her ancestors did. It was too bad that she wasn't a pureblood vampire herself; she would have been able to completely put to usage all the powers that flowed through her veins.
He was a pureblood and he could obtain all of those powers that had been stacked in her blood for thousands of years. He could imagine how strong he would be. Even the Kurans who were considered the King of purebloods in this country would become like ants for him to easily crush. Being lured over by the sweet scent of her blood and the greed he possessed, the pureblood trotted over to her.
But what he didn't expect was when the moment he had reached in front of her someone with ash blonde haired appeared as if he had teleported and delivered him a single precise slash to the heart with his anti-vampire weapon. He perished, turning into shards.
Kaien glanced down to the female huntress in front of him and crouched down, examining her wounds, "you really are reckless Kiba-san." He commented.
This was the first time Rin Kiba had ever been in a situation like this - where she had almost lost her life to vampire and where someone had saved her. From his actions and hearing his words, this caused her heart to skip a beat and her cold cheeks had felt a little warm.
Rin's heavy eyelids lifted revealing lavender eyes as she released hot gasps. Her red eyebrows furrowed. When she had returned home yesterday and went to sleep she had been perfectly fine. Why did her health suddenly deteriorate over night?
Then she had suddenly recalled her dream of the past when she had begun to develop feelings for Kaien Cross. Exactly eighteen months ago when Rin had confessed to him, she had been rejected. Then once the redhead had met Juri Kuran and became friends with her and from assisting Kaien so he could get his dream school running, she had discovered that the ex-vampire hunter possessed feelings for Juri.
"Oh, Rin-san you're finally awake." Kaien walked into her room."I knew something was wrong when you had missed the meeting. Then your cousin called me and told me that you're sick."
'Hoshimi.' Rin growled in her thoughts. She knew why she had called him over, but her heart was pounded hardly and loudly against her rib-cage. Rin was frightened with his advanced senses that he could hear it. 'The book explained this emotion of I am having is embarrassment, but I think I am having extreme embarrassment.'
After taking her temperature again, Kaien released. "It seems like your fever dropped, but you're redder in the face than more. I know, I'll whip up some of my Cross' specialty rice and apple porridge and have you have your medicine!" He retreated to the kitchen.
Rin sat upright, a folded white rectangular cloth falling from her forehead to her blanket covered lap. Then she sensed it. The presence of others who had been following her for the last two months reappearing.
An arrow shot through her glass window and fly towards her head. Since she was already aware of them, she dodged but because of her sick body, the sharp arrow head grazed her cheek.
With shatter glass on the carpeted floors of her apartment, several masked men in black appeared.
"So you're finally revealing yourselves." Rin said.
The assassins had no replies for her and they commenced to attack.
Slamming her the room door open Kaien reappeared. Even in a pink apron when his eyes sharpened, the men in black felt his petrifying aura that oozed from his body.
They didn't expect ex -vampire hunter Kaien Cross to be here and immediately decided to withdraw.
One of them threw a brown sphere substance to the ground and black smoke filled Rin's room.
It cleared up after several seconds and Kaien found Rin on the ground, her face turning purple. Seeing the cut on her right cheek, he immediately deduced that she had been poisoned.
As Rin was drifting deeper into her unconscious state, she heard a voice that she hadn't heard in months, 'sorry Riny; seems like I was wrong.'
