In the pocket of my trench coat, I still have a piece of blue fabric; I've kept it since the day of Dean's birth. He was born on a cold day of February, in a small yet beautiful house in Lawrence, Kansas. I happened to be sitting on a bench next to that house, in the moment when a happy couple carried its newborn inside.
I felt the air full of morning dew stick on my skin as colorful butterflies wandered through the flowers, airy and cheerful. I shivered at the thought that most of those butterflies would be dead the next day; what a shame: such elegant and stunning creatures with such a short life. I studied their wings, admiring each form, every single shade of color.
My mouth couldn't help but release a soft sigh. I had promised myself that I would keep away from humans: after Uriel's reproach, I was trying to keep doing my usual work; but everybody knew that I couldn't resist for more than two months. In fact, there I was; in front of a house, looking through the window glass, curious to see that human's face.
I slowly got closer and watched as the blonde woman started playing with the baby's tiny hands. I looked up at his face as mine was contorted with disgust; I had never seen a two days old human before; his face was as red as a tomato, he was hairless and his cry sounded more like a choking goose. Yet the little thing intrigued me; he made me want to protect him from the danger of that mad world.
That morning, ripping a little piece from the blue birth bow, I decided to keep an eye on the tiny hairless human and watch him grow up.
Everything about that moment was peaceful and perfect, way better than the atmosphere in Heaven. I hated living there, with the oppressive thoughts of my duties and my brothers' constant complains. That wasn't Heaven, it was quite similar to Hell instead.
Struggling to drive my bad thoughts away, I nervously tapped my foot on the wet ground while the baby's little cries rang through the house walls.
