chapter sixty-nine ▬▬▬ stranger things happen every day

━━━━━ JACOB PULLED INTO Charlie's driveway. Ellie climbed off the bike as Jacob pulled his keys out. The brunette turned and stared at the house she had practically grown up in. It felt like forever since she had been here, and the truth was she missed it.

It was her home, and she was glad to be back. Jacob walked over to Ellie tapping her on the shoulder. Ellie took her eyes off the house looking at the wolf.

"You ready?" Jacob questioned her.

"As I'll ever be." Ellie replied, with a slight smile.

Jacob proceeded to walk past her heading towards the back where he knew Charlie would be. Of course Ellie followed behind him and with her hands she sent her magic towards Charlie changing his mind before they even got to him.

The two walked down the hill Jacob was still leading, Charlie was chopping wood clearly getting ready for the winter. He lifted the axe in the air and brought it down onto the wood causing it to split in half. He went to pull the axe out of the wood, but turned slightly to see Jacob and Ellie walking towards him.

"Hey." Charlie called out. "You heard anything?" Ellie decided to stay back until Jacob shared the information that Charlie needed to hear.

"Charlie, Bella is... Uh..." Jacob went on to explain, not really sure what to tell him. Ellie lowered her head in disappointment.

"No, she's not."

"No, no, no, I mean, she's fine. She's back home and she's feeling better."

"Why didn't you say so? That's great." Charlie said, patting Jacob's shoulder, soon proceeding to walk towards Ellie who was still slightly on the hill.

"Wait." Jacob called out, causing him to stop and look back at Jacob. "There's something you need to see first."

"I need to see Bella." He turned back around trying to head up the hill.

"Look, in order for Bella to get better, she had to change."

"What do you mean, 'change'?"

"Here goes nothing."

Jacob started to take off his clothes which resulted in Ellie turning to look away mostly because she didn't need or want to see that.

"What the hell are you doing?" Charlie asked him, as Jacob threw his jacket to the grass.

"You don't live in the world you think you do." Jacob replied, taking his shirts off.

"Jacob, put your clothes on."

"Now, this may seem strange. Really strange. But stranger things happen every day. Trust me." Ellie looked back watching as steam came off of Jacob and soon enough he shifted into his wolf form.

"Holy shit!" Charlie said, falling to the ground terrified.

Jacob moved towards Charlie, whining and lowering himself down to the ground showing him that he wouldn't hurt him. Ellie proceeded to walk over to Jacob petting his head to show that Jacob really wouldn't do anything.

"You knew about this?" Charlie asked, looking at his adoptive daughter.

"Yeah, Max is kinda one and so is Astrid." Ellie said, kneeling down and looking at her adoptive father.

"Fantastic." Charlie breathed out.

Ellie stood up holding her hand out to Charlie, he of course accepted it. When he did he noticed that her hand was cold which confused him.

"Let's catch up, and let Jacob get dressed."

Charlie nodded in agreement and proceeded to follow Ellie back up the hill. Once they were in the clear Ellie looked over at Charlie still seeing the shock on his face.

"Carlisle and I are thinking about adopting a daughter." Ellie said, playing off the fact that they already had a daughter that was half human and half vampire.

"How old will she be?"

"I'm not sure yet, they've only just approved our application." Ellie said, though she was still telling a lie.

"Well, either way, I can't wait to meet her." Charlie then proceeded to pull Ellie into a tight hug not wanting to let her go. "I missed you El."

Ellie of course hugged him back, closing her eyes. "I missed you too, Charlie."

"I'm going to take a quick shower, I'll be over in about 10 or so minutes."

"Okay, I'll let them know." Ellie said, watching as he walked into his house. Seconds later Jacob appeared, his eyes were on Ellie. "We should head back."

"Okay. Let's go." Jacob replied. Ellie walked over to the bike along with Jacob, he climbed on first and turned his bike on. Ellie climbed on afterwards, and soon they took off heading back to the Cullen household.

When they arrived Ellie went into the house making it back in time, just as Gwendolyn woke up from her nap. Astrid and Max were of course still in the room, and Seth had been in there too checking up on Gwendolyn.

"How did everything go?" Astrid asked, looking over at the newborn as she picked her daughter up from the crib.

"It went better than expected but I'm pretty sure he caught onto the fact that my hands are cold. Oh and I lied about Gwendolyn so when he came over um she had to stay up here. And I told Charlie that you two were wolves too." Ellie explained quickly.

Max and Astrid looked towards each other while Seth seemed confused. "I think that's my sister calling me." Seth said, exiting out of the room leaving the three adults to talk. Seconds later he came back and grabbed Gwendolyn from Ellie.

The brunette sent Seth a smile and nodded, letting him know it was okay. Seth then exited out of the room once again. The door was soon closed behind him allowing the three to argue it out if they wanted too.

"What do you mean you told Charlie about us?" Max questioned her.

"Well, Jacob shifted in front of Charlie letting him know that wolves existed. And then me being me I went over to Jacob and petted his head. Charlie then asked me if I knew about it and I told him the truth for the most part."

"What exactly did you lie about?" Astrid proceeded to ask her.

"I told him that Carlisle and I had applied to adopt a girl, I told him I didn't know how old she would be or when we would get her. He just... Charlie can't know about Gwendolyn. Not yet anyway."

"Then we'll tell him when the time is right." Carlisle said, entering the conversation.

Ellie turned around looking to see her mate standing at the door. "How much of that did you hear?" She asked, walking over to him.

"Enough, but I don't blame you. I understand why you did it. I'm just shocked that your newborn instant didn't kick in."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, typically newborns have a thirst for human blood. Why didn't you attack Charlie? It wasn't because Jacob was there. It's something else."

"I didn't tell Jacob this when I was explaining to him what I could do with people's minds. Astrid and Max don't even know this. But after being around Charlie I knew it was true."

"The smell of human blood disgust you, doesn't it?" Carlisle questioned her.

"Yeah it does." Ellie answered.

"How is that possible?" Astrid asked, her eyes on Carlisle.

"It's rare, but it's still possible. From what I've heard, the rare vampires that are like that are typically the ones who are the most powerful."

"Which means I must be really powerful."

"In this case, yes, it does seem that way."

"Charlie will be here soon. I'm sure Seth will keep an eye on Gwendolyn while he's here. I'm gonna go downstairs, are you coming?" Ellie asked, though the question was directed more towards Carlisle.

"Yes, I'm coming with you. You need to wear contacts and go through the little training." Carlisle replied.

"I don't need contacts."

"Why not?"

"Because she can use her magic on anyone to make them see what she wants them to see. She tried it out on us." Max answered, looking at Carlisle.

"I see you're discovering more about your abilities."

"Yes, I am."

"Keep an eye on Gwendolyn please." Carlisle said, looking between the wolf and the Protector.

"We will." Max and Astrid said in unison.

Both Ellie and Carlisle sent them a smile. They turned around and proceeded to walk out of the room heading down the steps to the room where the others were.
