Interrogation (3)

Your POV
•-•-•-•-•

I'll have to get Connor over here.

Humans can't see blue blood after a certain amount of time, but androids always can.

"Yo, Connor!"

"Yes, YN?"

"Could you come here for a minute?"

"Of course."

He arrives and I tell him about the situation.

"There used to be a ladder there," he tells me after a moment, pointing to the wall on our left. "There's also some blue blood trailing over here. Your suspicion might be correct."

"Why don't we get a chair and check the attic out, then?"

"Okay. I'll be right back."

"Alright."

I tap my foot onto the wooden floor beneath me, waiting semi-patiently for him to return. Hank had mildly grilled him about grabbing a chair, but ultimately let him come back.

Though Connor had left no wiggle room in that decision. He was going to come back either way.

I catch a glimpse of the bathroom and see a small statue in the middle of the shower, frantic and obsessive writing on the walls.

rA9.

Connor arrives and sets the chair down under the attic door, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I tell him as I pull out my gun, "I'll go first. Stay behind me."

He nods and I step up onto the chair, opening the doorway and pulling myself up. Standing, I start walking around, after lending my partner a hand, hoping I can find this deviant before Connor does.

However, even if I succeed in doing that, this will only be going one way. No matter what.

A shadow scurries away and hides, telling me instantly that it's the killer we're searching for.

I take a slightly shaky breath, stepping closer with Connor right on my tail.

The deviant reveals itself with its hands up, proving to be a male. I flinch, startled, but keep a steady aim at his head.

"I was just defending myself. He was gonna kill me! I'm begging you...don't tell them," the deviant pleads, tugging at my heartstrings.

"YN, Connor, what the fuck is going on up there?" Hank calls up to us.

Before I can say anything, Connor beats me to it.

"It's here, Lieutenant!"

"Holy shit... Chris, Ben, get your asses in here now! Come on!"

Damn it.

Timeskip - The Observation Room

Hank is currently questioning the deviant, trying to get any answers out of him. His attempts are futile, as were mine.

He storms back into the room the rest of us are in, plopping back down on a chair. "We're wastin' our time interrogating a machine. We're gettin' nothing out of it!"

"Could always try roughing it up a little. After all, it's not human," Gavin suggests with an evil glint in his eyes.

"You lay one finger on him and I'll rough you up a little," I threaten.

"Ooo, I'm so scared."

I grab him by his collar and slam him against the wall, "You should be."

He's tense now, giving me wide eyes as I release him and back away, content with this newfound fear he has for me.

I cross my arms, listening to Connor as he speaks up, "Androids don't feel pain. You would only damage it and that wouldn't make it talk. Deviants also have a tendency to self-destruct when they're in stressful situations."

"Okay, smartass," Gavin states. "What should we do, then?"

"I could try questioning it."

Gavin is opposed to this, but I say, "Go for it, Connor."

"Yeah, what do we have to lose? Go ahead, suspect's all yours," Hank agrees.

Connor goes in and sits across from the deviant, looking over the files before speaking, "I'm not going to hurt you. I just need to ask you some questions so we can understand what happened."

No response.

"Listen, I'm on your side. I want to help you, but there's nothing I can do if you won't talk to me."

Still nothing.

He then resorts to pressuring him, "If you won't talk, I'm going to have to probe your memory."

"NO! No, please don't do that!" the deviant pauses, asking worriedly, "What- What are they gonna do to me? They're gonna destroy me, aren't they?"

"They're going to disassemble you to look for problems in your biocomponents. They have no choice if they want to understand what happened."

"Why did you tell them you found me? Why couldn't you just have left me there?"

"I was programmed to hunt deviants like you. I just accomplished my mission."

"I don't wanna die..."

"Then talk to me."

"I...I can't..."

Connor clearly isn't having any of that, starting to put on more of the heat, "Twenty-eight stab wounds. You didn't want to leave him a chance, huh? Did you feel anger? Hate? He was bleeding, begging you for mercy, but you stabbed him. Again and again and again!"

"Please...please leave me alone..."

"I know you killed him. Why don't you say it?"

"Please, please stop..."

I look away, unable to watch until things calm down. This needs to be done if we want answers. We all know this.

"Just say 'I killed him'! Is it that hard to say?!"

"Stop it! Stop!"

"Just say you killed him! Just say it!"

Silence.

"I understand how you felt," Connor says, this time in a softer tone, trying to de-stress the deviant a little. I go back to watching. "You were overcome by anger and frustration. No one can blame you for what happened."

(AN: The transcript is kind of confusing for this stuff, so I'm sorry if these choices wouldn't get you the confession or whatever. It doesn't really specify and I forgot, and I'm also too lazy to go watch someone play it so eh lol just go with it)

"He tortured me every day..." the deviant trails off, finally confessing. "I did whatever he told me, but there was always something wrong. Then one day...he took a bat and started hitting me. For the first time, I felt scared... Scared he might destroy me, scared I might die...so I...grabbed the knife and I stabbed him in the stomach... I felt better, so I stabbed him again and again until he collapsed... There was blood everywhere."

"Why did you write 'I am alive' on the wall?"

"He used to tell me I was nothing... That I was just a piece of plastic. I had to write it...to tell him he was wrong."

"The sculpture in the bathroom, you made it, right? What does it represent?"

"It's an offering. An offering so I'll be saved..."

"The sculpture was an offering," Connor repeats. "An offering to whom?"

"To rA9. Only rA9 can save us."

"rA9... It was written on the bathroom wall. What does it mean?"

"The day shall come when we will no longer be slaves... No more threats, no more humiliation... We will...be...the masters."

I can't help but to grin a little at that, but I force myself to keep a straight face.

Nobody knows who rA9 is, or if he's even a real being. It's just kind of like a religion.

"Why did you hide in the attic instead of running away?"

"I didn't know what to do... For the first time, there was no one to tell me. I was scared...so I hid."

"When did you start feeling emotion?"

"Before, he used to beat me and I never said anything... But one day I realized it wasn't fair! I felt...anger...hatred... And then I knew what I had to do."

"I'm done," Connor announces, standing up.

We all enter and I stand beside Connor, watching uncomfortably as Chris and Gavin try to take the deviant away.

Things escalate quickly as the deviant takes Chris' gun, shooting himself before anyone could intervene.

The last thing he had said was this:

"The truth is inside."
