Going Down (25)

Your POV
•-•-•-•-•

I talk with the family of three for a minute or so before Josh approaches.

"Markus wants to have a word with us," he tells me, and I nod.

Looking back to the family, I say politely, "I'm sorry, but you'll have to excuse me for a while."

Kara nods, "That's alright. Thanks for catching up with us."

"Don't mention it," I smile lightly before following Josh to the stairs.

We shuffle past a guy with a brown jacket and a beanie on, which is all I saw of him as I didn't really give him a glance. I state quietly as I slip by, "Excuse me, sir."

The stare from earlier is still present as Josh and I make it to the top of the stairs. We head over to the captain's cabin, meeting up with the others to talk.

Things get heated fairly quickly.

"We're short on blue blood and biocomponents. Our wounded are shutting down and there's nothing we can do!" Josh informs us, expressing his concerns.

"President Warren is saying we're a threat to national security and we need to be exterminated," Simon pitches in.

"Humans are conducting raids in all the big cities and they're taking androids to camps to destroy them!" North adds, infuriated with the humans.

"It's terrible," I add, shaking my head. "They're slaughtering innocent people."

"It's all our fault... None of this would have happened if we'd just stayed quiet!" Josh says.

"If we'd stayed quiet, we'd never get freedom for androids," I retort. "At least we're trying, right?"

"We couldn't just suffer in silence—they're killing us! Nothing is gonna justify that," Markus cuts in.

"What's the point of being free if no one is left alive?" Josh remarks.

"Humans enslaved us! I'll never regret standing up to that."

"We shouldn't forget who our enemies are. We can't fight amongst ourselves," Simon mentions, trying to cool down the situation.

"Dialogue. It is the only way... I will go alone, try to talk to them one last time," Markus decides.

"Don't do this, Markus. They'll kill you!" North protests, worried for her lover.

I've seen their google eyes—you ain't gonna catch me slippin'.

"Maybe...but North, I have to try. If I don't come back, lay low as long as you can," he replies.

"Just come back," Simon states.

"Alive," I add. "We need you here."

"They need to realize how much they're hurting us... Find the right words and they'll listen," Josh concludes before all of us, except for North and Markus himself, exit.

Before I can go back towards the stairs, Simon stops me.

"You've got something on your mind," he says. "What's wrong?"

Despite still feeling that stare, I explain.

"I'm just—" I sigh deeply, rubbing my eyes from under my glasses. Looking back at him, "—worried...about how things are gonna pan out. I just don't want anyone else to die, is all."

Simon sets a hand on my shoulder and reassures me, "I don't want to see that, either. Everything will be fine, even if we do lose a few on our side."

I nod with a small smile, "Thanks, Simon."

"Yeah, no problem," he replies with a little grin. "Let's go join Josh."

Nodding once more, we wander off.

The odd stare leaves me, and I'm left wondering who it was.

Suddenly, all hell breaks loose.

Screams can be heard echoing throughout the halls of Jericho, gunshots piercing the air and nearly blocking out their shouts.

Somehow, Simon and I get split up amongst everyone running around, and I realize what's going on as I see cops at the end of the hall I'm in.

The humans are attacking.

I run off without being seen and end up bumping into North, Markus and—

"Connor?!" I ask, incredulous.

He's the one we passed on the stairs earlier! With the brown jacket and beanie.

Damn, I should've paid more attention.

He nods, pulling me into a brief hug. "I'm sorry."

I know immediately what he's talking about, and despite my slight irritation at it, I dismiss, "It's okay, it's okay."

We break apart and North proclaims, "They're coming from all sides! Our people are trapped in the hold, they're gonna be slaughtered!"

"Where's Simon? A-And Josh?" Markus questions me.

"I don't know!" I hurriedly respond. "I was with Simon, but we got separated."

"We have to blow up Jericho. If the ship goes down, they'll evacuate and our people can escape!"

"You'll never make it! The explosives are all the way down in the hold, there are soldiers everywhere!" North protests.

"She's right! They know who you are. They'll do anything to get you!" Connor adds.

"Go and help the others. I'll join you later," Markus tells us.

"Markus..." North trails off.

"I won't be long," he assures her before running off.

As the remaining three of us try to get out of here, Josh joins us. Simon and Markus aren't too far behind as we try to assist anyone we can.

We make it to the hold and a soldier corners us, "Don't move! Go and join the others!"

We make a run for it, but North trips and falls after getting shot, causing the rest of us to stop.

"It's too late, Markus! There's nothing we can do for her, we've gotta run!" Josh exclaims, but Markus moves to save her anyways.

"Fire at will!" a soldier yells.

"Contact! Contact! Hostiles engaged!" another adds.

"Over there! Run!" Markus proclaims, helping North back to us while dodging bullets.

"Go! Now!"

"Tango, suppressing fire!"

Connor takes action, doing some pretty cool moves to protect North and Markus as they run back to us, killing the soldiers.

"You're amazing, Connor!" I exclaim, impressed as he rushes back, us all running in the opposite direction of the dead soldiers.

He glances at me with a satisfied grin and takes my hand, not needing to say a word to know that he's thanking me.

"Run, quick! Come on!" Markus shouts, our group barreling towards our exit as bullets fly.

Unfortunately for me, one of the rogue ones managed to hit me right in my left arm.

Thankfully, though, I can't feel the pain, but the blue blood inside of it starts gushing out.

I ignore it and just push onward, knowing there's nothing I can for it at the moment.

Nobody noticed that happened except for me.

We all jump out of the ship and into the water below from the corridor we were just in. As soon as we're underneath the water, the ship explodes and we swim to shore.

Every one of us made it out alive.

Well, everyone in our little group, that is.

I can't say the same about many other androids that were seeking refuge in Jericho when the attack occurred.
