A Risk (20)

Your POV
•-•-•-•-•

I join in on the marking, having fun with it.

I put messages like 'We are alive,' 'Freedom,' and 'We are people' around, as well as the Jericho mark that Markus had chosen for us.

He had even tagged the statue, saying, "We don't need masters anymore. We're free."

I start pushing a car and North joins me, "I'll help you!"

Markus assists us as well.

We don't flip it or anything, though.

"They're coming!" Markus announces as police start to show up. "Everyone fall back to Jericho!"

"Fuck!" I curse under my breath.

If the cops see me, they could recognize my identity. I can't risk that.

I pull up my hood, watching everyone running away as I stay behind with North and Markus.

"We sent a message without violence, just like you wanted. You're reaching out to them when all they feel for us is contempt. I hope you know what you're doing..." North trails off.

"You can't fight violence with violence," Markus reasons.

"Unless there's no other choice."

Gunshots echo throughout the streets, and my heart races.

"YN, get back to Jericho! They can't see you!" North exclaims to me, knowing the level of risk I'm at just by being here.

I refuse to leave, though.

Not yet.

"I'll stay in the shadows, but I'm not leaving," I tell her sternly as we rush towards the source.

North and I are up ahead and she kneels beside a dead android, Markus running up to us.

"North! YN! North... You alright? What happened? North! YN!"

"They killed them... they slaughtered them like animals..." she mutters in anger.

"Who did? Who?" he presses.

"They killed our people, Markus..." one of our people trails off.

"We want justice, Markus!"

"They have to pay!"

"You don't have to do this... No... Please... Please..." a shaky voice says, and I look over at them.

"Shit, that's Chris!" I whisper-shout to Markus and North.

Markus walks over to them after glancing at me, the androids parting for him.

I adjust my hood, holding the end of it so that my arm blocks most of my face as a precaution, my body angled sideways towards them.

My eyes stay stuck on the cops and Markus.

The cops are on their knees with their hands behind their heads.

Markus is handed a gun, and my heart races.

Come on, Markus, don't do this.

Don't do it.

He has his gun trained on them, but he lowers it and states, "An eye for an eye and the world goes blind... We won't punish a crime with another crime."

He walks off, us all following him.

I be sure to keep my face out of view of the cops, knowing that Chris could potentially recognize me if he saw me.

The news mainly speaks of the pacifist message we sent to the public afterwards, though it does have its propaganda sprinkled in it as well.

Not a surprise, there.

I just hope that Chris didn't see me.

If he did, then I'm done for.

I took a risk that I'm not sure I should've taken by staying there when I was told to go.
