Picture this, Jack and Jake balancing two cereal boxes each on their heads while raising their two hands up, I was sitting down on the single sit in the living room, Annie was sitting a couch away from me, Jace was kneeling in front of his mom with his hands up and books on his head and finally James was in the kitchen stuffing his face.

"Jason Xavier Gray," Annie started earning a scared look from Jace" where were you when the twins wrote their mark on my ceiling with a permanent marker?", the way she said it calmly seemed more deathly than someone who yelled on top of their lungs.

" Um mum, I was..."

"Elena" she said and I jumped a little not expecting her to call my name, "Tell me, HONESTLY, what happened when I was gone." and with that I narrated everything that happened that night without leaving a single detail, well I left some including the time I almost tripped or the time I almost burnt my hand while cooking. Annie absorbed the information and when I was done she turned and gave Jace a deathly glare.

"Mum look I can explain..." Jace started but Annie raised her hand signalling him to shut up and Jace in turn, gave me a glare, seems like deathly glares run in the family.

" I told you to stay at home and look after the twins and you sneaked off to a party." she said furiously. It almost looked as if she had smoke coming out of her ears, "well i have a perfect punishment for you" was she bipolar or something because Annie was overflowing with anger and now she was smiling at Jace. "Here's your invitation to the Sweet sixties party." she said bringing out an invitation card from purse, "Since you like to party a lot, I thought you could join your grandma and party with her friends".

"Mum please, anything but that, anything at all."Jace pleaded.

"As for you two" Annie said ignoring Jace turning to the twins who immediately raised their hands up, " You will help me clean this house thoroughly."

"Ugh!" Jack said.

"Mumm" Jake pouted.

"And Elena," my heart started pounding without ceasing, " since you tried to stall me from going to Jace's room, which means you tried to cover for him, you'll go to the party with him." Annie finalised, "Now let's all go have dinner." the twins immediately took the boxes of cereal down and ran to the kitchen and Annie followed them while picking up the cereal from the ground.

"I'm not hungry." Jace said before going upstairs. I feel like in a way it's all my fault so I just quietly went into my room.

I sat down on the bed and just recalled the events of the past few hours. I was supposed to be a practicing angel not a girl who was ' covering up ' for another person, also known as lying. I was already deep in my thoughts when I heard a knock on the door.

"Who's there?"

"Elena?" Jack said poking his head into the room, "can we come in?" Jake said from outside

"Yeah, come in."I said sniffling a bit, they stumbled into the room with their head down

"Um Elena, we didn't mean to get you in trouble." Jack said.

"Yeah, we just wanted to get Jace in trouble, we didn't know you'd be included." Jake said in a low tone.

I smiled at their attempt at apologising, "it's ok, as long as you guys didn't purposely do all this then it's fine."they gave me a big smile before their face was filled with worry.

"But how are you going to survive tomorrow?" Jack asked and Jake nodded along.

"Don't worry, it won't be all that bad, would it?" I said but I've started to become a bit scared about the party.

"Yeah, I don't think it would be bad" Jake said nervously but it seemed like he was trying to convince himself more than me.

"You guys should head to bed before your mum increases your punishment for staying up late" I said yawning a bit, being a human makes you tired.. that's probably why they need to sleep to get their energy back.

"You're right, we should go to bed, it's getting late" Jack said opening the door while Jake mumbled a goodnight while rubbing his eyes.

It's has been almost two hours since I shut my eyes to sleep when a noise woke me up.

I think it's coming from downstairs so I slowly opened the door and tip-toed out of the room. On my way out, I took a shoe with me just in case it is a thief. Angel Emmaculata normally told us stories about people who break into other people's houses and collect their stuff, they go to hell when they die.

When I reached downstairs, I saw the kitchen light on and before I could make any move someone came out of the kitchen and to tell you the truth, this was the last person I was expecting to see.

          I woke up pretty early and headed to the bathroom to take a shower, you don't even want to know the disaster that occurred the first time I used it.

     After taking a shower, I entered the room drying my hair only to see a brown envelope on my bed, I am pretty sure it wasn't there before. I looked at the envelope closely and saw a heavenly stamp on it, I ripped it open immediately expecting to see my task but it was just a profile of the human I was supposed to be for the meantime.

    I was getting tired of being human, I mean staying with Annie and the others was nice but I need to complete my task before I end up being the last person to become a full angel. Before I could continue my rant internally, I heard a loud squeal and I rushed downstairs to see what was going on and check if anyone was hurt or something.

       I reached downstairs only to see Annie jumping up and down with a big smile on her face while James was watching the television and the twins were having breakfast.

      "Morning James, morning Annie." I said.

       "Morning Elena, how was your night?" James asked giving me a smile.

      "It was ..."

      "Guess what Elena?" Annie asked excitedly cutting off my response.

      "Um.. what happened?" I asked.

      "After you started staying with us, I contacted the police and filed a report cause I felt bad knowing that your parents will probably be looking for you, so today the police gave me a feedback and it turns out you don't have a guardian" she said smiling before realizing what she said and frowned, " I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for it to come out that way."

     " It's ok Annie" I said giving her a small smile, well I was trying to act as of what she said affected me because I don't have any earthly parents and I have only one father who lives in heaven.

       "Are you sure?" She asked and I gave her a reassuring smile this time, " ok, so they said that since you are seventeen, you can stay with us till you turn eighteen then you can move out if you want, that is if you don't want to stay with us."

     " I do want to stay with you guys, thank you." I said politely.

     "This calls for a party" James said heading over to the coffee maker to make more coffee.

      "Silly James" Annie laughed, "she already has a party to attend." Immediately she said that, Jake and Jack gasped and ran upstairs whispering to themselves.

       "That's true, where is Jace by the way?" James asked looking around while sipping his coffee.

       "Jace!!!" Annie yelled.

        "What?!!" Jace yelled back.

        "Get your butt head over here!" Annie said rolling her eyes. Jace came downstairs all dressed up twirling a bunch of keys.

        "Oh good, you're ready to go" Annie smiled at him, " now you guys have fun and be back before seven. Jace make sure you come back with Elena" she warned.

        "What do you mean mum?" Jace asked rolling his eyes.

        "You know what happened the last time" James said chuckling a bit.

       What happened the last time?

       "When the twins were two, we all went to the park and Jace took the twins to the slides and to cut the story short Jace was willing to pay a couple five bucks to take the twins" Annie said, I guess I asked the question out loud.

      "Thank goodness for the kind couple that brought the twins back to us" James said laughing at the memory. If Jace could do that to his own brothers then what about a stranger like me, the thought of that was even more scarier than going to an old woman's party.

       "You guys should be on your way now, I'm going to get the vacuum cleaner so I can start cleaning with the kids" Annie said walking further into the house

       " Mum! What about breakfast?" Jace asked.

       "Get some on the way!" What does she mean? What way?

       "Elena wait!!" Jack shouted.

       "Hold on!" Jake exclaimed behind his brother

       "What's wrong?" I asked

       "Just to be safe, we gathered up some supplies for you in case the party becomes wild" Jake said holding up a bag.

     "How wild can a party filled with a bunch of retirees get?" Jace asked rolling his eyes.

       "This backpack contains extra clothes, shoes, a memory card with cool music and some snacks" Jack explained ignoring his brother.

       "Did you guys go through my wardrobe?" I asked surprised.

       " Not important, your safety is our concern." Jack said Immediately.

        "Come on, we don't have all day." Jace said walking out of the door

        "I'm coming!" I said after him, "bye guys"
 
         "Stay safe." Jake said while Jack waved at me.

          "It's cleaning time boys!!" Annie yelled from inside.

           "Ugh!!"
