Chapter 16: VIP lunch and a sad friend.
Today is Friday. The day I get to defend my assignment with Laura. I walked into the literature class and I saw Laura engrossed in her book. I quietly passed her Laura only to feel a grip on my wrist.
"I hope you are ready 'cause I'm not getting anything less than an A." Laura said a low deathly voice.
"I... I'm ready." I found myself stuttering, afraid of what will happen if we got less than an A.
"Good." she said before going back to the book she was reading.
"Ok class, settle down." miss Rachel said and I immediately sat down on my seat. "Let's get started, shall we?" and everyone groaned in response.

"And that is why the warlock sacrificed himself, he realized that his death was the only thing that will bring an end to world destruction." Laura concluded and the whole class started clapping making me smile.
"That was amazing, I mean you girls gave me a new insight into the book. Well done, the both of you have earned your A unlike the rest of the class" the teacher said with happiness in her eyes. The bell rang signalling the end of class and everyone rushed out of the class.
"We did it!"Laura said happily, grinning from ear to ear before she realized that she was smiling at me, "what I mean is, good thing we got an A." she said clearing her throat.
"It was nice working with you." I said simply.
"Yeah you too." she said before walking away.
"Elena!" Celine called out as soon I stepped into the hallway.
"Hey Celine." I said waving at her.
"Where have you been all week?, You've been hanging out with Laura and the others that you forgot about me." she said pouting.
"I'm sorry." I said realizing that what she said was true.
"After school, by my locker. Let's go somewhere." Celine said and immediately the bell rang, "see ya later."

It was lunch time and the last day of Jace's lunch detention. He's been staying at Mr Herrington's class during lunch time and I decided to keep him company today. I carried my lunch and his too and headed to the class.
"Mr Herrington?" I said poking my head inside the class.
"Yes Elena, how can I help you?" He said adjusting his glasses.
"I was wondering if I could have lunch with Jace, that is if it's alright with you." I said slowly and Jace who was probably taking a nap before woke up and gave me a questioning look.
"Ok but make sure you don't drop anything on the floor." Mr Herrington said and I beamed at him. I entered the class slowly balancing the food on my hands.
"You brought lunch for me?" Jace asked suprised.
"Yes." I replied before I realized I should have asked him first before coming here, "I'm so stupid, I should have asked you first. I just thought that..."
"Elena, it's fine." he said cutting off my rambling, "thanks for the food. Have a seat." he said dragging a seat closer to his. I placed the food on the desk in front of Jace and took a seat. We were about to dig in the the door slammed open.
"Sup Hank?!" Cole said loudly entering the class with food in his hand earning a groan from Mr Herriington.
"Hey Hank." Luke greeted right behind Cole.
"Is this a VIP lunch party?" Mr Herrington asked raising his eyebrow.
"Nope." Cole replied pulling a desk closer to Jace and i, "hey Elena." he said sitting on the desk.
"Hey Cole, hey Luke." I greeted.
"Elena, thank God you came here, it was getting boring at the cafeteria." Luke said sitting down, "Laura even said so.. wait a minute.. Laura come in!" He said and Laura came in slowly with her lunch.
"Why didn't you guys do this before? If I knew lunch detention can be like this then i would have been keeping Hank company a long time ago." Jace said taking a bite of his food and Mr Herrington threw a folded piece of paper at him.
"You can thank Elena for that." Cole said chewing his food which was disgusting.
"Can you close your mouth a little?" Laura said equally disgusted. She was sitting beside Luke who was on the opposite side of the desk facing Jace and I.
"I don't judge you for your weird love of school so don't judge me." Cole retorted.
"There is nothing weird about having love for school. School is actually nice so far." I told Cole who looked at me with horror then he turned to Laura.
"I heard the both of you were grouped for an assignment but Laura, I didn't expect you to brainwash her immediately." Cole said accusingly.
"Cole quit whining." Luke said.
"Luke come on, I know Cole might be childish but he's surprisingly right. I mean who the heck loves school these days?" Jace said frowning.
"Jace, how can you say that? School is actually interesting, you get to learn new stuff everyday and at the same time be with your friends, it's a win-win situation" I argued and Jace looked at me with a shocked look on his face while Cole was feigning heart attack.
"I know it's weird if I say this but Elena where have you been all my life?"Laura said happily.
"Ok, ok let's end this sad argument and talk about the new movie that's going to be released tomorrow." Luke said
"Is it Extraction?" Jace asked and Luke nodded. I suddenly realized that someone was missing.
"I forgot to call Celine, let me just text her" I said bringing out my phone and Cole collected it from me.
"She's the reason I left the cafeteria. Can't we just have one lunch without her?" Cole said frowning.
"Why don't you like her? I mean on my first day here you guys were insulting yourselves" I asked, this has been on my mind since Monday and I couldn't find the right moment to ask any of them.
"He says his gut is telling him not to trust Celine and he has been like that since the beginning." Luke explained and Cole nodded affirmative.
"So please don't call her okay?, Pwetty pwease?" Cole asked pouting making him look constipated.
"Only if you stop making that face, and I don't feel good about not inviting her just so you know." I said.
"Thanks, it's just one lunch. And damn I look cute with the puppy dog eyes." Cole said
"Only if cute is the new creepy." Laura said and Luke gave her a high five.
"It feels like I'm in the middle of a conspiracy." Cole complained.
"Reduce your voices kids, I'm trying to have a video call with my wife." Mr Herrington said and I'd be lying if I said that I remembered he was here.
"Say hi to Sue" Jace told him and Mr Herrington rolled his eyes playfully at him.
"Let's take a picture." Cole suddenly said.
"What are you..." Laura started but Cole immediately cut her off.
"Say Gibbs!" Cole shouted turning his phone towards all of us including himself. Luke kept his hand behind Laura's head bringing out two fingers making it look like bunny ears, Laura smiled at the phone and Jace.. Jace put his hand over my shoulder, the hand I was currently looking at. "Elena look at the camera" Cole said and I looked at the phone and smiled, not because of the picture we were taking but about this priceless moment.
*******
"You had lunch with the gang." Celine said simply as I approached her locker.
"Yes, how did you know?" I asked curiously.
"Cole posted the picture on Instagram with the caption 'my gang' " Celine explained.
"Oh" I said feeling bad because I didn't even tell her I wasn't having lunch in the cafeteria.
"You could have told me you weren't having lunch with me, I couldn't have brought two lunch trays" she said sadly and I felt my heart drop at that.
"I'm so sorry. I.. I wanted to but.."
"It's fine. That's what popularity does. You actually forget the friends you started with." she said sadly walking away.
"Celine I'm so sorry, I mean it."I said with a heavy heart. I am such a bad person, how could i listen to Cole? Celine was the first friend I actually had and I didn't want to loose her , "You said we are going to hang out today, right?. Let's get ice cream, Annie gave me some money this morning." I said hopefully.
"If you escort me somewhere, then I'll forgive you." Celine said smiling at me.
"I'll go with you." I said immediately, happy that she's going to forgive me.
"Come on." she said waving me over, "Jace, Cole and Luke have been acting all suspicious lately. We used to tell each other everything before but they've become really sneaky recently so we are going to find out what they are hiding."
"They must have a reason for not telling you." I asked wondering why she wanted to find out what the guys were doing so badly.
"Waiting is not fun." Celine stated simply, "are you coming or not?"
"I... I'm coming" I said following her. Here goes nothing.
