This is it. Today is Monday, the first day of human school and my first step to adjusting to being human. I woke up pretty early, earlier than usual given that I spent all night revising Celine's notes. I decided to prepare breakfast and prepare for school.

The moment I finished preparing breakfast, Annie came downstairs yawning so loudly, " Elena, you're up early. Are you that excited for school?"

"You can say that" I said but I was more nervous than excited, I mean I was going to meet a whole new set of human beings.

" Can you please go wake Jace up? I need to take a shower and get the twins ready for school." Annie said taking a bite of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich which I learned how to make, by the way, from the kind lady at the food cart in the mall.

"Ok sure." I said removing the safety cloth I wore, also know as an apron. This is exactly the second time I'm going to Jace's room since I came here and the first time wasn't all that pleasant.

I knocked twice on the door and got no response. "Jace?" I called out and still got no response so I just did a quick sign of the cross and entered the room. I found Jace sleeping soundly in his room, it made me feel so bad for trying to wake him up.

"Jace? you need to wake up." I said, "your mum asked me to wake you up." I quickly added so he doesn't get too mad at me. Jace didn't budge at all, I hope he isn't dead or something. I poked his sides earning a groan from him, I poked him again and a little more until...

"Wha... What do you want?" Jace said sitting up immediately.

"I came to wake you up cause your mum asked me to... plus we have school today." I said nervously.

" Wait you are already dressed up for school?" He asked rubbing his eyes and probably taking in my appearance, "it's like six thirty or something."

"I don't want to be tardy on my first day." I answered quietly.

"Oh, beginner's spirit" he said standing up fully, stretching his body, "it'll only last a few days and before you know it you'll feel like ripping your hair out because of school."

"I doubt that, learning is fun." I said proudly.

"I feel like barfing." Jace said feigning nauseous, " nothing about learning is fun, now get out I need to take a shower."

"Bye kids, have fun!" Annie yelled from the front door.

"Bye Annie" I said waving at her while Jace just grunted and entered the car. "What about Celine?" I asked, " I thought we'd all go to school together."

"Celine is another story." he stayed turning the key in the keyhole, " she forgets to set her alarm and she ends up reaching school halfway through first period."

" Can't we go wake her up now?" I asked feeling bad for Celine.

"Nope, it's funny when she barges into the class looking horrible" he said chuckling

"That's not nice." I said frowning.

"Life's not nice." Jace replied.

Since Jace seemed in a pretty fair mood I decided to ask him why he was so grumpy yesterday.

"Jace, did I do something wrong yesterday?" I asked slowly

"No, why do you ask?" He replied sparing a second to look at me before focusing on the road.

"You kept on glaring at me yesterday." I said simply.

"I wasn't in a good mood yesterday." he stated not explaining any further so I decided to drop the case and shut up.

We reach the school in less than five minutes and Jace turned off the car and looked at me.

"Look before we go in, I just wanted to tell that the kids here are not friendly, they are anything but friendly." he warned, "just thought I'd give you a heads up "

I came out of the car with Jace's warning in mind and before I knew it Jace was flooded with people and everyone was talking at the same time, Jace on the other hand seemed used to the crowd and he just waved, smiled and even greeted some of them, I guess I'm on my own.

"Elena!" I heard Celine's voice shout, I turned around and saw her running towards me

"Hey Celine, Jace said you usually came to school late." I said surprised

"Yeah I do but I couldn't bear to leave you alone on your first day so let's go in." Celine said dragging me inside.

Celine helped me get my schedule and find my class. Currently I was sitting in maths class and everyone was giving me a strange look and I don't know why.

"Settle down, delinquents." a middle aged man said spotting a frown on his face. " According to the management we have a new student, Elena Walter is it?" He asked looking around and I raised my hand signifying I was the new student.

"Welcome to Whitewood high, I hope you don't end up like the rest of these kids. My name is Mr Herrington and I'm the senior year maths teacher." he said smiling proudly.

"I probably won't end up like the others, everyone has a different ending in life" I said giving him a small smile, I noticed a girl in front roll her eyes at me and I frowned at that, why would she do that?

"Good, you seem smart" Mr Herrington said.

"Teachers pet" someone said before adding a fake cough which made the whole class laugh.

"Shut up delinquents" Mr Herrington snapped and just on cue, the door opened revealing none other than Jace himself.

"Morning Hank." Jace said walking into the class.

"How may times have I told you not to call me..."

"Yeah whatever" Jace said not looking at the teacher before coming to my desk. "Elena you're on my seat."

"Oh I'm so sorry, nobody told me the seat was taken." I said packing my stuff ready to stand up.

"It's fine, you can have it." he sighed before taking a seat behind me, immediately he did that everyone around gasped and I was so confused like what's going on?

" So if x is two, find the value of x3 = 5+y" Mr Herrington read out from the book he was holding.

This question is easy, i read it from one of Celine's books. I quickly raised my hand to answer the question, I knew you had to raise your hand if you wanted to do anything because a kid did it to go to the bathroom and by the way, it's been twenty minutes since the kid left.. where is he? not that it's any of my business. Five seconds later, the girl in front that rolled her eyes earlier raised her hand.

"What's the answer Laura?" Mr Herrington said without looking up from his book

"The answer is..." She started

"Oh wait, Elena do you have an answer?" He asked looking at me with a suprised look.

"Um yes sir" I said nervously

"Laura can you please take your seat, it's actually the first time another student raised a hand to answer a question." Mr Herrington said happily.

"The answer is 3." I said

"That's correct." Mr Herrington said. Laura gave me a glare that could put a person six feet under, do all humans have the ability to give a deathly glare?

" I need two students to come up here and have quick maths quiz. I need to see if anyone studied the topic I gave you over the break" Mr Herrington said dividing the whiteboard into two with a marker before writing similar questions on the two sides.

Laura proudly stood up and walked towards the board taking a marker from Mr Herrington and waited in front of the class for the second person to come up. I looked around and noticed that almost half of the class seemed less concerned while few were opening their books. I took a deep breath and stood up earning a second round of gasped from the class and a glare from Laura, nothing new.

" Come up Elena" Mr Herrington said smiling, " at the count down of three, the both of you will start and the first person to finish will be the winner"

" In 3, 2, 1 and go!"

"Done!" I said two minutes later earning a shocked look from Mr Herrington.

"How did you...?" He started

"I'm done." Laura said before realizing I've just said that and she had the angriest look on her face.

"Ok, one more question and the fastest gets extra points" he said making Laura's eyes glow with happiness.

"In 3, 2, 1, go!"

"I'm done!" I said three minutes later exhaling loudly.

" And Elena wins the extra points, congrats Elena you are a few points above those meat heads sitting down " Mr Herrington stated and I felt so happy and I actually saw Jace smiling a little before he noticed me looking and wiped it off his face.

The bell rang and everyone literally ran out of the class and in a few minutes, the class was empty before I finished packing my bag. I was left alone with Laura and Mr Herrington who was on his phone. I took my backpack and was about to leave when Laura stopped me standing close to me.

" Listen noob, this is my territory and my class and I'm not gonna let a butt kissing teacher's pet like you steal my shine" she said glaring at me, " let this be the first and last time you act all smart cause I won't go easy on you if it happens again" with that she strode out of the class.

Uh oh, What have I done?
