"Kya aapko yeh nikaah qubool hai?" (Do you accept this marriage?)
"Qubool hai" (I do)
"Qubool hai" (I do)
"Qubool hai... " (I do... )
Their lips formed a curve, as their eyes met again, is this how a new beginning felt?
3 months later;
"Good Morning Mam" the maid stood infront of the chair, nervously staring at the women who was busy reading the morning newspaper "Do you own a watch?"
She nodded "What time is it?" her eyes still on the newspaper as the maid stared at her wristwatch "7:10"
"What time were you supposed to report me?"
"7:00 mam" her head bend down in shame "I'm sorry mam, it won't happen again."
"I won't let it happen again sweetheart" the women finally stared up at her, folding the newspaper in her hand "You are fired."
The girl stared up her eyes moist "Abidah!" they turned to the door as she entered "Here you are, see you forgot one thing from the list go and get it asap, take the money" she handed her some cash signing through her eyes as the maid nodded and turned on her heels immediately.
"Good morning Ammi jaan!" she turned to the women with a smile so big "Amaya" the women frowned "Kitne baar usse bachaogi?"
"Ohho Ammi jaan!" she walked upto her and knelt down "Woh toh saath baje se pehle hi aa gyi thi, maine hi usse neeche rok liya tha samaan lene phir deri toh honi hi thi." (Mother, she was here before seven but I sent her to get the groceries, that's why she got late.)
"Subeh 6baje konsi grocery ki dukaan khuli rehti h?" Amaya bit her tongue embarrassed as the women chuckled.
"Amaya!"
"Lo tumhara bulawa aa gaya jao wrna sahabzaade gussa ho jaenge" (And here comes your duty call, go before he gets angry again.)
Amaya got up instantly and rushed out of the room, her eyes caught someone "Devar ji!"
He shook his head rushing to her "Dheere bolo bhabhi wrna who sun legi." (Slow down sister in law or she'll hear.)
She tried not to laugh "Aryan" he closed his eyes turning around "Yes wify?"
"You were running without your tiffin box?" she walked upto him and handed him the box, a sigh of relief "Sanam, why is this so heavy?"
"Actually you always get late because of me na so I thought to pack the breakfast too, now go before Bhai comes down or you'll get late again."
He pulled her cheek "Cho chweet baby" she blushed.
"Ehmm!" Aryan smiled at Amaya "Abhi bass jaa hi raha hu mai" (I'm just leaving) he lifted up the tiffin box and made a face "Khaana leke." (With the food)
As he left Amaya wiped Sanam's face "Go get fresh then we'll have breakfast together" she nodded and left.
Amaya smiled turning to the stares and there he his arms folded over his chest, a frown on his face "Aww so cute" she exclaimed but her didn't budge.
"You know that your my wife first and then the rest of the relationships right?"
"Sorry na" she pouted "Mai bass" (I was just... )
He shook his head and walked upstairs "Please don't go" he stopped "I have this strange feeling, something is going to happen Arhaan" he smiled as she stood there worried.
"You can't even stay one day without me?" he teased her resuming to walk upstairs and she frowned following him "For your kind information, I have stayed 23years without you" she smiled at him with a nod.
He turned to her "Well that's because" holding her arm he pulled her closer to him "You haven't met me all those years, warna humara charm kuch aisa hai ek bar dekhte hi sab fidaa ho jaate hai" he winked at her as their eyes met, there was a strange feeling. (You haven't met me all those years, otherwise one look and everyone falls flat on my charm.)
She opened her mouth to speak but couldn't as they stood there still "Hayee, bass ab mithai bantna shuru krrdo iss ghar ka chiraag aahi jaega ab toh Halima Aapa" (Aww, you should start distributing sweets, this house will soon get its heir Halima Aapa [Big sister])
Amaya pulled her arm out of Arhaan's grip "You embarrass me always Arhaan!"
"What? I can't even hold my wife closer to me?" she shook her head "Chachi jaan ko koi batao aise chiraag thodi hota hai, unhone biology nahi Ouw- " he jumped on one foot. (Someone please explain to aunt that kids don't happen like this, hasn't she learned biology?)
"Padi hai kya?" (has she?) he glared at her as she smiled at the two women downstairs "Aaplog baithiye, mai aabidah se kehkr nashta lgwathi hu- " she was about to walk downstairs but he held her hand and shook his head. (You both please sit I'll go and call Aabidah to set the food.)
Halima smirked "Aap sahabzaade ko sambhaliye hum Aabidah se kehke mangwa lenge" Amaya nodded and Arhaan's lips curved up. (You handle your husband I'll ask Aabidah to get something.)
Arhaan opened the room's door "Welcome" he faked a smile at her and she shook her head "What is missing may I know?"
"Everything!" he pointed at the bed "My wallet" she walked to the nightstand and opened the drawer interrupting him "wallet, cellphone, power bank, charger. Your laptop is in your bag, same goes for all the documents you did that last night yourself Arhaan."
He smiled as she adjusted his tie properly "I wish I could stay Amaya but you know right, Aryan is new to these stuff still and the deal is really important. Take blessings from everyone for me, mami, mamu and don't forget to give my blessings to our cute little prince, okay?" she nodded.
"Now come on, don't act like nineties ki heroine, nothing's going to happen to me I'm a strong man" she frowned "Who cares about you? I was saying because I don't want to live a colorless life, otherwise I have no problem" she shrugged her shoulders as he stared at her, his jaw hung open.
"What?" he shook his head "Just wondering if I bring along a sautan (second wife) for you perhaps?"
She smiled back at him "We'll rule the house together" crossing her arms over her chest "We'll be like sisters you know, troubling you till the end."
He walked to her as she giggled "Stop right there before Chachi jaan comes up and repeats her ever mantra."
"As if I care, you know" he stared into her eyes "I'm actually thinking on a serious note, should I bring a second wife for your company."
"Don't say that again or it might turn into a truth which I'll definitely hate" tried to push him away but he didn't budge "Now that's what I try to tell you Amaya, every time I want us to spend some time together something comes up and you just... "
She finally stared up at him, looking into his eyes "I'm sorry, I promise when you come back we'll spend lots of time together."
"Just like old times?"
"Just like old times" he kissed her forehead and suddenly the door opened "Good morning Bade Papa (Elder Dad)" the little girl chirped running towards them.
"Good morning my princess" he lifted her up in his arms and she pouted "I'll miss you, please don't go."
He chuckled "Badi Ammi ki copy (Big Mother's copy) I'll be back by tomorrow evening then we'll go on a dinner date, you me and your Badi Ammi."
"Promise?" he held her littlest finger by his "Promise."
"Now give me my good luck charm" she pecked both his cheeks "All the best."
"Thank you my baby."
Delhi,
"Ammi" (Mother) she called out as a tear tripped down her cheek "Please don't do this to me, I don't even know him."
"Atleast you got to see him Anaya, at our times our parents decided
everything for us. Your Abbu and I met for the first time after our nikaah, your Abbu and I allowed you guys to talk to each other, meet each other."
"I went just on a coffee date with him Ammi and that to once with Bhai jaan and Abbu sitting just a few tables away and the other side his Abbu and Chacha jaan." Her Mother glared at her "Okay fine, but then he's not someone I dreamt of Ammi I don't like him as in my husband. He's not tall h
andsome and he's not even a businessman."
"He is- "
"Handling ration shops isn't a business Ammi" this time she glared back at her mother who sighed "Then go, talk to your father yourself."
Anaya's lips trembled "Hun?" so did her fingers as her mother smirked "Don't expect any help from me, I have done how much I could Anaya by letting you both go on a date. Now If I ask him to cancel the marriage just a few hours before he'll behead me."
She got up "The parlor women must be on her way, get ready asap it's too late for you to take a stand for yourself now, our family's respect is at stake Anaya."
"Ammi!" she called out as the door shut tightly behind her she jumped in her place "Abbu se baat krru?" (Should I talk to Father?) she shook her head immediately "Isse acha toh mujhe faasi pe hi latka do" (It's better to hang me instead.)
Her cellphone buzzed "Plan on?" she wiped her tears with a smirk replying "Full on!"
