3: Why Are You Chasing Us!?
Your pov at the restaurant just before Frank talked to you guys
Awsten and I sat at a table together, talking about nothing at all when a boy came over to us.
"Hi, uh, I need to settle a debate with my friends, could you be of some help?" He asked the two of us. We looked at each other for a moment.
"Sure..."
"Okay," He turned to Awsten, "Is your blue hair naturally that color?" What? What kind of question is that?
Almost immediately, Awsten began laughing. Soon, I joined him.
"N-No... I dyed it..." He shook his head.
"See, that... that's what I told them!" The boy cried, but clearly it was the other way around, "I'm sorry for intruding on your meal, have a nice night."
"You too," Awsten said as the boy walked back to his table, "Could you believe that!?"
"I know, that was so weird..." My gaze then went to the boy's table, "Wait, aren't those the boys from the gas station?"
"Where?" Awsten looked in the same direction I was, subtly, I pointed towards the table, "Oh yeah! What were their names again?"
"Mikey, and... Gerard? I think..." He hummed.
"Maybe we should go over there?" He began to get up, but I put my hand on his arm so he wouldn't.
"After we eat." As we ate, my eyes kept wandering over to the table full of boys. It seemed as if Mikey's eyes did the same thing for us. At one point, our eyes met. I smiled, but he pulled his gaze away, quickly.
"Dude, I keep feeling like we're being watched or something. I dunno why..."
"It's probably nothing." I reassured him, eyes still on their table.
"What are we looking at?"
"What!? Oh, nothing..." My gaze went back to the food. His gaze followed where mine had been.
"You're staring at that Mikey boy."
"No, I'm not. I was just looking at their table."
"He's looking over here."
"What!?" I looked over, but he wasn't.
"Got em', admit it, you like him!"
"How can I 'like him' if I've only met him once!?"
"I dunno, that's for you to tell me."
"Well, I don't like him..."
"Y/n, we've been friends for ages. I know that look."
"What look? I don't have a look!"
"Whatever..." My gaze went to Mikey one last time before I forced myself to keep it on the food. Finally, we finished eating. Awsten and I stood up, just as the other boys stood up. Each party immediately gazed over. I am so scared...
"What do we do now?" I whispered to Awsten.
"I dunno, let's just, try not to get beat up," He whispered back. We just stood there as the tension rose between us. Nervously, Awsten took my hand, "Okay, on the count of three."
"On the count of three what?"
"One... two... three..." He bolted out the door, I was right behind him.
"What the fuck!?" I asked, "Why was that so intense!?"
"I dunno, but we should get outa here." His gaze was on the door, I looked to see them coming up close behind.
"Yeah, let's go..." Quickly, we began walking towards the Inn. But as we walked, a truck full of boys passed by. Mikey, being one of them.
"Awsten," I patted his arm and pointed to the truck as it began to stop fairly close to us, "We gotta go!"
"Oh shit..." They began getting out, walking towards us. So, we ran the other way.
"Hey! Wait up!" We kept running, "Agh!" They got back in the truck and started chasing us.
"Awsten, they're right behind us!" I cried.
"Let's juke em'!" As soon as they began to pass us by, we ran the other way.
"Goddammit! Frank, turn around!" I heard one of them yell.
"We're almost there, let's go!" Finally, we had made it to the Inn. They were only a step behind us when we slipped into our room. Awsten and I stood with our backs pressed to the door, breathing hard.
"Why are they even chasing us!?" I wheezed.
"I dunno!" There was then, a knock at the door. Awsten's hand went to the knob, but I signaled him to stop.
"What are you doing!?"
"What if it's Patrick!?" There was then a 'bang bang' on the door.
"It's obviously not Patrick!"
"Open up!" Someone cried from the other side.
"Why are you chasing us!?" Awsten finally yelled through the door.
"We just wanna talk!"
"Talk!? Talk about what!?" I asked Awsten.
"Talk about what!?" Awsten yelled. It went silent for a moment. How do they not know?
Then, there was another knock. It was softer, and not so loud.
"It's Patrick!" We each sighed, opening the door. But it was a trap, "I'm sorry guys, they made me." The other boys stood surrounding him. Our eyes went wide, shutting the door.
"Wait, no!" The tall one stuck his foot out so it wouldn't shut. Awsten looked to me for a moment, I shrugged so he opened the door.
"Are you gonna beat us up?" Awsten asked, terrified.
"What? No! Is that why you're running from us?" The short one asked.
"Well, yeah..." Awsten answered, "Isn't that why you're chasing us?"
"No, we-" Gerard began, but was hit on the arm by the short one so he'd shut up.
"You were what?" Awsten asked.
"We, were," Mikey began, obviously coming up with something on the spot, "Uhm-"
"He wanted your phone number!" The short one interrupted, pointing to me. So he chased me with his posse? Who does that!?
"Wait, you want Y/n's number?" Awsten began to snicker, "That's why you've been chasing us!? Well, you could've just asked!" I turned to him.
"Awsten, what are you doing!?" I whispered to him, closing the door slightly.
"He wants your number! What are we supposed to do!? Let them beat us up!?" I sighed, then looked back at them as they whispered to each other.
"Fine..." I looked back to Awsten, "But only because it's the cute one."
"I knew you liked him!"
"Shut up!" My face heated just a bit as he opened the door.
"Mikey, right?" Awsten asked, the boy nodded, "C'mere..." He stepped forward, and Awsten backed away.
"Where are you going!?" I asked.
"Just give it to him!" I sighed, Mikey nervously smiled.
"I'm sorry about all this."
"Well, it seems like a lot just for a silly phone number." He smirked.
"Yeah, well, when my friends hear me call a girl cute they aren't the type to just let it slide." I giggled, he smiled.
"Okay, uhm, do you have a piece of paper? Or something?"
"Uh, no," He turned to the boys, "Do you guys have anything to write on?" They all shook their heads.
"Here, gimme your hand." He smiled and did so. Using the Sharpie from my pocket, I wrote each digit along with my name. He gazed at it for only a moment.
"Thanks, I'll call ya."
"Cool," I set my hand on the door.
"Well, I'll see ya around."
"Yeah, see ya," Slowly, I shut the door. Awsten sat on the edge of his bed, staring at me, "That was definitely strange."
"What do you mean? He likes you! He called you cute! This is a good thing!" I took a seat next to him.
"Yeah, but it all seemed kinda, improvised."
"Improvised? Why do you say that?"
"Did you notice how when Gerard was about to tell us why they were here, the short boy hit him on the arm before he could?"
"Oh yeah, that was weird. And then, Mikey was about to say something but that short boy interrupted him as well!"
"Do you think they're hiding something?" I laid back on the bed.
"Maybe, what do you think it is?"
"Failed government experiments. Definitely."
"Really? I'm still thinking aliens." He laid back next to me.
"Aliens would be too obvious!"
"Too obvious!? It is not!"
"Well I mean, they look just like humans to me! It'd be so much more obvious if they were aliens."
"What about government experiments!? Wouldn't they look, y'know, not human?"
"I dunno..." I looked to the ceiling, "It's just so weird to me."
"Yeah, those boys are kinda strange," He chuckled, "But I mean if he really did just want your number, it's kinda sweet."
"Sweet? I dunno, it seems a little over the top for me," I giggled, "He chased us around with his friends only for my number! I mean, who does that? It's not worth the trouble." I giggled more.
"Well, obviously he thinks you're worth the trouble."
"We've met like, once, how could he possibly know that?" He looked to me.
"He probably got that feeling, y'know? He just, knew!"
"We-" Just then, my phone buzzed, "Woah, I have like, a bunch of missed calls and messages," I sat up, "All from Scott..."
"Really? What do they say?"
"The messages all say stuff like he wants to see me again. He wants me back!" I cheered.
"What do the voice mail things say?" He asked.
"Oh I dunno." As soon as I hit play, my heart sank, and all thoughts of Mikey had disappeared.
"Stacy? Baby, are you there?" Awsten held a hand over his mouth, "I miss you real bad. Can I please see you? That night before you left," He happily sighed, "Please pick up, I need you..." The rest of the messages were very similar. Dropping the phone, I looked to a teary eyed Awsten. He got up, staring out the window.
"I- he... he said... at the party... he wanted to try again with me..." The tears were barely holding back, "He lied to me!"
"Stacy..." Was all Awsten said before he went to the floor. Almost immediately, I joined him. His arms went around me while mine went around him as we cried.
"Awsten...?"
"Yeah?"
"What... what do we do now?"
"Honestly?" Awsten wiped at his tears, "I think you should call him back. Just let him have it."
"But... what about you and Stacy?"
"Me and Stacy? That was... never gonna happen... I'm just... I'm just an idiot..." He said to the floor, "Just call him..."
"Okay," I pulled my phone from the bed and hit call, putting it on speaker so Awsten could hear too, "I'm sorry about Stacy and everything..." He didn't respond since Scott had picked up already.
"Stacy!? Is that you!? Baby, why haven't you responded!? I-"
"Scott...?" He went silent at the sound of my voice, I could tell he was in shock, "You're with Stacy? How long has that been going on?"
"Oh, uhh, just a few... a few weeks..." He nervously answered.
"Scott, we broke up just a week ago. Have you been," I paused, unsure of my words, "Cheating on me?"
"What? No," He nervously laughed, I looked to Awsten, "Of course not, baby!" He's lying... he always laughs like that when he lies...
"Don't lie to me."
"I'm... I'm not lying! Besides, it's not like you're so innocent!"
"What!? What are you talking about?"
"Oh please, don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about!" I looked to Awsten, confused.
"I've never cheated on you."
"Does the name, Awsten ring a bell?" We both rolled our eyes.
"Awsten and I are friends! I've told you this thousands of times! Nothing has ever happened between us!"
"Don't lie to me."
"I'm not! You never trust me! Why can't you just trust me!?"
"Because you cheat!"
"I do not! Don't flip this on me! I-..." I sighed, "Y'know what? I'm done with you. We're done. For good."
"Please, sweetheart, you don't mean that..."
"Uh, yeah I do! Don't call me, don't text me, don't talk about me, don't think about me, and when I get back, stay away from me."
"Y/n..." I hung up, only to start the tears again as Awsten hugged me.
"Hey, hey, it's gonna be okay. He was an asshole anyways..." Awsten spoke softly, "And well, he doesn't deserve you," He held a small smile, "You got a new boy here, anyways. He's already got a leg up on Scott to me."
"I still can't believe he chased me around just to get my number." I giggled, Scott already leaving my mind. We both laid back on the floor.
"Yeah, it was pretty funny."
"Let's agree not to think about school stuff while we're here. I think it'll only spoil this strange place."
"Yeah, sounds good." He smiled, getting up.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm gonna make a pillow fort. Would you like to join me?" Immediately, I jumped up.
"Yes!" I giggled, but a thought began tugging at my brain. If I'm not good enough for Scott, how could I be enough for Mikey?
"What?" Awsten asked, clearly noticing. Without a word, I pushed it to the back of my mind.
"Nothing, I'm fine. Let's build this fort!" He sent me a strange look, but figured I'd be okay after building our epic pillow fort.
Pulling the blankets and sheets from the beds, we spread them across the space between the two mattresses. We both climbed in underneath the sheets and put the pillows and left over blankets everywhere. Finally, I grabbed the snacks from earlier as Awsten turned on the tv.
"Wow, this is awesome! The creativity, the craftsmanship, it's perfect!" I dramatically said.
"It's all in the sheet roof!"
"The sheet roof, is that what you call it?"
"Yes." Awsten stated, laying in the fort. I climbed in next to him as Shark Tank started, throwing him some snacks.
"What the hell is that?" I asked.
"I dunno, I think it's an umbrella type thing." We both stared curiously at the strange product.
"Awsten?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm really happy we came here. It's been fun."
"It has been, and it's only the first day! It's been wild."
"This is gonna be a really good summer."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah..." I answered, "It's gonna be awesome."
"Really? It's gonna be awesome?" I nodded, "Yeah, it totally will be." I giggled as our attention was back on the tv.
