10: I've Changed My Mind
Awsten and I walked around town until we stopped at the arcade with some food. He immediately spotted Frank at the counter.
"Oh, there's Frank. You really think he'll like this?" He asked. I shrugged.
"Hopefully..." He sighed and made his way to the counter with me close behind.
"Frank, hi," Awsten greeted, Frank just looked annoyed.
"Whatta ya want?"
"I bought you lunch!" He slid him the bag, "I feel really bad about the fireworks and everything." Frank looked through the bag and sighed. He took out the sandwich, and gazed back at Awsten.
"I'm vegetarian. I can't eat this." Awsten looked to his shoes, now sad.
"Oh, I didn't know..." Frank sighed.
"But I like your effort, and French fries." He said, pulling out the box of fries.
"So, are we cool?"
"Yeah, we're cool." Awsten smiled out of relief.
"Cool..." Then, I turned to see Mikey coming into the arcade. All I wanted to do was run into his arms, but, my nervous insides said no.
It's okay... I can see him... Awsten will protect me... oh god I can't do this! What if Gerard finds out!? What if he hurts Awsten!? I can't let that happen! Mikey, I'm so sorry...
"Uhm, where's the bathroom?" I asked, Frank pointed, and I was out of there. Once I was in the bathroom, I just stood there with shaking hands. Awsten's still out there... I don't want him to get hurt...
Quietly, I stepped out of the bathroom. A wall stood just outside, separating the bathrooms from the arcade. Cautiously, I popped my head out the side and gazed at the boys from afar. They all spoke to each other with smiles and laughter.
My eyes were caught on the elf boy. He held a sweet smile as my insides yearned to be with him. But I resisted. If I even say a simple hello, what could happen to me? To Awsten?
Then, the elf boy spotted me and came this way. My eyes went wide and I hid behind the wall. He just stood on the other side. Oh no...
"Hey sunshine, Awsten said you were over here."
"Yeah, hey..." I spoke nervously.
"Can I see you?" See me!? No!
"Uhm, no, no..."
"Why not?"
"I uhm... well... I just, I can't..."
"Mkay, uh, I was wondering if you wanted to go out tonight? There's this spot in the forest I wanna show you. It's beautiful there..." Oh I want to so bad... no... I can't...
"That sounds amazing, but I uhm, I can't."
"Is there any reason why?"
"Awsten and I are doing something tonight... sorry..."
"Oh, uhm, I guess we could go out another time..." I could practically see the sadness in his eyes from his tone. Oh Mikey... this hurts...
"Mikey, I'd love to, I really would, but I just, can't..."
"I understand, can I please see you?" I wanna see you too...
"No, I'm sorry..."
"Alright, I gotta get back to the gas station. I'll talk to ya later."
He sounds so sad... so heart broken... I just wanna hug him... tell him he's adorable... kiss his hands like he does for me... no... I can't...
"Yeah, later..." He then walked off, I poked my head out for just one look at him.
Mikey... I'm so sorry... please I wanna go on that date with you... I wanna see you... I wanna talk to you... I wanna do everything with you... I just... Gerard... I'm terrified... my heart hurts...
With a quiet sigh, I waited until he left the building. He still stuck to my mind as I wandered over to Awsten and Frank.
"Hey, there ya are!" Awsten said, "Mikey was looking for you."
"I know, I spoke with him." I sighed.
"You okay?" He asked. I hummed, nodding, "You sure?"
"Uhuh..." No... I wanna be with Mikey... but I don't want either of us getting hurt...
"No you're not. C'mon, let's walk around."
"Alright..." We left the arcade and began walking down the sidewalk.
"So, what's up?" He asked.
"Nothing..."
"Dude, I know something's up! We've been friends for so long! Now spill! Spill!"
"Fine!" I cried, but then sighed, "Remember what Gerard said to me? About getting beat up if I didn't stop hanging out with Mikey?"
"Yeah, I said I'd beat him up if he tried!"
"I know, I just don't want you getting hurt. I just, I think I should maybe do what Gerard said."
"But you like Mikey so much."
"Not anymore..."
"Liar!"
"Okay, I still like him so much. But I'm so scared. I wanna be with Mikey so bad."
"Then go out with him."
"You don't get it! If I hang out with him we'd be toast!"
"Toast? But I like toast..." He smiled.
"Awsten, y'know what I mean," I looked to the sidewalk, thoughts on Mikey, "We can still be together, but, I just can't talk to him... or touch him... or be with him... or look at him..."
"I'm not so sure about this. You like him so much! Just keep going out with him! What about what you said yesterday? You wanted to keep going out with him."
"No! I've changed my mind!"
"So, what are you gonna do if you see him?"
"Hide... avoid him..."
"Are you sure about this?"
"Yes, of course I am! Eventually, I'll be over him, and I can move on."
"This plan doesn't sound too good. Is this really what you wanna do?" No...
"Yeah," I answered, "I know what I'm doing..."
"Really? Mikey's right over there."
"Where!?" I immediately jumped behind Awsten.
"Just a test..."
"Oh, cool..." I stepped away, "Can we go back to the Inn? I'm tired..."
"Tired? It's two o'clock! I thought we were gonna do stuff!" All this anxiety...
"I dunno, I just wanna head back."
"Alright..." We then walked to the Inn, which wasn't too far away.
"Hey guys," Patrick greeted.
"Hi," I greeted back.
"Y/n, I think Mikey was lookin' for you. Said he wanted to take you out tonight or something. I sent him to the arcade, but I'm not sure if you saw him." That was a tear at my heartstrings.
"Oh, yeah, I spoke with him. Thanks, Pat."
"No problem..." As we began up the stairs, Awsten sent a look my way.
"Mikey wanted to take you out tonight!? You should go!"
"Awsten, you know I can't!" I said as we entered our room, "Besides," I began, laying on my bed, "I'm over him, anyways..." no I'm not...
"Something tells me you're definitely not." I didn't respond. Awsten just looked at me as little tears dripped down my chin. I'm such a mess...
"You okay?" He asked, sitting beside me on the bed. I shook my head. Awsten sighed and laid beside me, his eyes on mine.
"I'm not over Mikey, I wanna be with him so bad..."
"Then go be with him!" I shook my head, "But you can't. Y/n, I already told you, I can beat this guy up for you. Gerard ain't shit."
"But what if you get hurt? You're way more important to me than any boy I like..."
"Y/n, that's really sweet but I'm not gonna get hurt! I'll be perfectly fine! I'm fuckin' Karate Kid!"
"Please don't do this."
"We-"
"Don't..."
"B-"
"No! I don't want you getting hurt!"
"Fine, I won't," I sent a look, "I promise!"
"Good..." He then hugged me.
"I personally don't think this is a very good plan, but," He sighed, "If it's really what you wanna do..." it's not...
"Thank you," I smiled as he pulled away.
"Alright, let's watch some tv." He reached over me for the remote on the night stand and began flipping through the channels. I watched for only a moment before I blocked it out and began thinking. Mikey...
My eyes then went to Klaus. He sat beside my bed. I pulled him up and rested him on my stomach with my hands on his front paws. A small smile appeared on my lips as I thought of the other night. He was so sweet... when we danced... I feel fuzzy...
I hugged onto the bear as my thoughts focused on that night. Reliving it through my memories, playing them over and over again.
The way he danced all happy... how he called me love... he's just... so sweet... no... don't think about him... I need a distraction... what kinda distraction!?
Klaus was put back on the floor as my eyes went to the tv. There wasn't anything interesting playing, but I needed something. I'm so bored...
Just then, my phone buzzed. I slid it out of my pocket and saw that my mom was calling me. Answering the call, I stood up and walked towards the window.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Y/n, Scott is standing on the front lawn wanting to talk to you."
"Why?"
"Here..." I heard shuffling, then I heard yelling.
"Y/n! Please, can I just talk to you!? I wanna explain! Please!" I sighed.
"She's not here!" My mom cried, "She went out of town! Didn't she tell you!?" I may have forgotten...
"No! I gotta go find her!"
"Mom, lemme talk to him."
"You sure?"
"Uhuh..." I heard more shuffling.
"Scott, here..." I assumed my mom handed the phone over.
"Hello? Scott?"
"Y/n, hi, I uhm-"
"I don't wanna get back together..."
"No! That's not why I'm here. I just wanted to say that I'm sorry. What I did was so shitty. Honestly, I dunno why I did it. I don't even like Stacy all that much. You deserved better."
"Really? You mean it?"
"Of course, I feel terrible, I'm sure you feel terrible. I felt like you at least deserved an apology."
"Wow, that's really cool of you. You'll always have a place in my heart, we had a good run."
"Yeah, we had some good times."
"Definitely," I sighed, "I guess this is goodbye."
"Goodbye, Y/n..."
"Goodbye, Scott..." He then handed the phone back to my mom.
"You didn't get back together with him, did you?" She asked.
"No, I kinda gotta thing going here."
"With that Mikey boy?"
"Yeah, he's really sweet, and funny, I think you'd like him." I said, smiling. Only if I could see him...
"Aww, that's great. I gotta go, be careful, bye kiddo. Love you."
"Bye mom, love you too." I slipped my phone away and fell backwards into Awsten's bed. Staring up at the ceiling, I only thought about the two elf boys.
"What was that about?" Awsten asked.
"Scott came to my house and tried to apologize to me. My mom had me talk to him." Awsten sat up at the sound of this.
"You guys didn't get back together, did you!?" He asked, worried.
"No, he just wanted to apologize about the whole Stacy situation."
"Oh," Awsten fell back into my bed, "So are they still a thing?"
"I don't think so? He said he doesn't like her all that much or something..." I explained, sitting up, and facing Awsten, "Why?" Awsten shook his head.
"There's no reason..."
"Really?" I asked, knowing full well there was a reason. He nodded. I rolled my eyes, "You wanna get back with Stacy, don't you?"
"What? Of course I don't..." He answered, obviously lying.
"Liar," I said, he shot back up.
"I am not!" He protested, "I'm over her!"
"Oh really?" I had my arms crossed, "So you wouldn't mind if I called her," I hesitated, "A trashy rich white girl with a generic trashy rich white girl name who's a copy and pasted version of every other trashy rich white girl out there?" He sent a look, then sighed.
"Yes, I wouldn't mind." He said, clearly mad.
"Awsten, it's okay, you'll probably just end up being her embarrassing low class boyfriend who she keeps secret from the world."
"Ahhh! I'm gonna kill you." He jumped off the bed towards me.
"Oh fuck," I ran to the other side of the room, "Admit it! You still like her!"
"Shut up! I do not!" He charged for me, but I slipped into the bathroom and locked the door, "Hey! That's no fair!"
"It's for your own good. Now, Awsten, do you still like Stacy or not?" I heard him sigh, then it went quiet for a moment.
"Yes..."
"Ha, I knew it!"
"Just, will you quit making fun of me for it?" He asked, "She's not as bad as you think."
"Fine, I'll stop, as long as you don't tackle me when I open the door."
"Deal..." I unlocked the door, and slowly opened it. He smiled at me, then hugged me, "Can you say that Stacy isn't a trashy rich white girl?"
"I dunno, that's kinda pushing it..."
"Say it..." I sighed.
"Stacy isn't a trashy rich white girl..." He pulled away.
"Thank you," He smiled, "Now, what should we do for the rest of the day?" I shrugged.
"Whatta you wanna do?"
"Uno?" He asked. I smiled.
"Yes..." For the rest of the day, we played Uno, after dinner, we played Uno, and up until midnight, we played Uno.
