Chapter Four

Luro's wand turned out to be one that was made out of Chestnut wood, with a unicorn hair core. After thanking the man and leaving, she continuously turned it over and over and observed it.

"Wow," she admired, "my wand is beautiful!"

"It's lovely," her mother agreed.

"Very finely crafted," stated her father.

She smiled, and tickled her little pets neck. She put the wand away in her robe and continued with her parents.

"I'm ready for Hogwarts!" she declared.

**************

Luro's parents pushed her cart with her suitcase and school supplies in it through the London train station. Luro herself held her pet tightly against her body, stroking it. They strolled, slightly rushing, throughout the station, searching for platforms nine and ten. They came up to seven. Then eight.

"Alright, we're here!" her father proclaimed to his family. He turned to Luro and whispered in her ear, "You ready?"

She nodded her head, but she was extremely nervous. It was so exciting, yet so terrifying. She shook her head, as if to shake away the fear. She pulled her pet tight to her and hurtled towards the wall.

She passed immediately through, coming up to Hogwarts' hidden train station. She looked at the sign above her. Platform 9 3/4. She sighed. It was wonderful.

Her parents followed right behind her with her things. The kitten meowed. Luro rubbed her head, then took her things and gently placed the creature on top of them. She and her parents turned the corner to see the great train. Children flocked into it in huge quantities. Parents waved and even cried at the sidelines.

Luro smiled and rushed towards the crowd, her parents right behind her. Luro squealed. Her dream was finally happening! She put her stuff down beside her and hugged her parents.

"Wow, this is so amazing! Which house do you think I'll get in?!" she asked.

"Probably Gryffindor," her father suggested, "You're so brave to tame that dragon of yours."

"Take good care of him!" she reminded him.
She looked over at the train. "Well," she sighed, "I guess I have to get on now."

She pulled her parents into one last embrace, then grabbed her pet and things and climbed onto the train, turning back to wave at them.

"Goodbye!" her father called.

"We love you!" her mother yelled.

She blew a kiss, then entered the doors to the Hogwarts train.

The train of her dreams.

Her dreams that were coming true.

**************

She had found an empty booth and sat down, playing with her pet. She was tickling its tummy when she realized something.

"Blimey!" she exclaimed, "I still haven't named you!" The winged kitten flapped its feathers and tilted its head. "Hmmmm..." Luro trailed off in thought.

"Can I sit here?" a shy voice asked from behind them. Luro turned her head, making her enormous, bushy ponytail bounce. A boy was standing uneasily in the doorway. "All the other seats are taken," he continued.

"Sure," she responded. The boy came in and sat awkwardly in the seat opposite her.

He was about her height, with straight, straw-colored hair that was neatly parted and only just touched his nerdy, square-shaped glasses. The glasses framed his delicate, blue-green eyes.

"I'm Tobias," he told her.

"Hey Toby," she responded, "I'm-"

"No, not Toby; just Tobias please."

"Alright, well, I'm Luro."

"Luro?"

"Its short for Ailurophilia. It means-"

"The love of cats!"

"Yeah. My mom was a real cat person."

"Is that a cat?" he asked. The creature stretched out its wings and lifted its head. "It has wings??!!!!"

"Yeah, funny story, actually..."

"May I?" he requested, reaching for the animal. Luro decided to trust him and placed her in his lap.

"It's a female," he observed, "What's her name?"

"Oh, she doesn't have one yet."

"We'll name her later," Tobias decided, "How did she get wings, though?"

Luro told him all about what happened with the unicorn and the feather and fur tuft. She described it all in great detail, intriguing the boy.

"Woah, that's so cool!" he admired. Luro smiled up at him. He smiled back. This Tobias kid seemed really cool.

"You wanna be friends?" she asked awkwardly.

Tobias blushed slightly, "Sure."

They played with the winged kitten together, thinking up names, and that was the start of a wonderful friendship.
