smoking mystery part 1
Hazels p.o.v
I was running,in the forest, and out of breath.
"No, no, no, no!" I cursed myself. The twins will pay for this. I cant believe they managed to get the boars running after me! I swear to Thors Hammer, they will regret doing it. Not to mention that the red eyes will be in my nightmares.
"Lumina!"i yelled. I hope she is near or else i will be dead. I heard a familiar wing sounds. I didnt stop running, until i looked back.
"Ab-about...........time y-you...got here......"i breathed heavely and i sat on grass.
"I told you that trouble finds you." Lumina was in front of me. Fanghook made a fire circle around the boars.
"Easy pray."
"Lumina.." i remind her. She looked at me with pleading eyes.
"C'mon. Its free breakfast." I never got used to Changewing hunts. There were always.........scary.
"It's more challenging and fun if there not traped. You know what our mom tough about hunting." Then i realised what i have said.
"I get no thank you for saving you?" Fanghook landed.
"I miss her too Hazel, now can i eat or should i wait until you go away?"
I roll my eyes.
"Wait. You can eat when i am far from here."
"Need help?" Gustav offered his hand. I just grinned and took it.
"Thank you for helping me." I smiled as kindly, as i can. I let go of his hand. He stared at me, longer then he should.
I snapped my fingers in front of his eyes.
"Berk to Gustav." I said.
He blinked a couple of times and blushed " S-sorry. G-got cought up on my thoughts." He stuttered.
Fire started to fade and Lumina looked at me.
"Alright we're going." I started to go in Berks direction.
"Hazel! Maybe me and Fanghook can give you a ride?" He offered.
"No. I am fine with walking." I replied, looking at him, but still walking.
"Then i will join you." He ran to catch up with me.
Fanghook followed us, while Lumina was waiting for me to get out of sight.
"You know that Thawfest last game starts really soon." Gustav reminded me
"Yeah, but it is not mandatory for me to be there." I shrugged. He looked at my hilt and then at the wepon. Hilt was made just the right knife size. The iron was petfecly fit in the leather, so i couldnt hurt myself, while riding Lumina or walking. It was strange to have a little more weight, but it didnt bother me.
A faint sound of a boar scream made my body ran down a shiver. Fanghook looked back for a moment then continued walking with us.
"Got a wepon?" Gustav gestured at my hilt.
I looked at it for a moment.
"Yeah, it was like a 'thank you' gift."
"Can i take a look at it?" He asked. I faintly smiled "Sure."
I took out it and gave him. He looked at it.
"They gave you a simple knife?" He grinned
"Turn the handle to your right, then criticize." I folded arms and stopped.
He did what i asked and that let his eyes widen in suprise.
"Alright. That is really awesome." He gave me back and i turned it again so i could fit it back in the hilt.
"I know." I playfully winked.
"Anything else that may suprise me?"
Is it just me or he just flushed?
"No. Not yet atleast." I folded my arms to my chest.
Hiccups p.o.v
Watching the last Thawfest game was fun. It reminded me the time when the gang and me competed. The last game was challenging, becouse vikings had to carry sheeps in there arms and run around the academy as long as i wanted.
"Toothless, can you..."before i finish my sentence, Toothless shoots a plasma blast in the sky. This was the signal that the sheeps had to be throwed in the nets that were hanging from academys roof. According to mine and Fishlegs calculations, they were high enough.
"Thx bud." I scratch his head. He looks at me, happy and turns his attention to the competetors. The main point of running was to get there energy low and make it hard for them to throw sheeps. It was the test of strenght and stamina.
Looking at them, i stated how many vikings could get atleast one sheep in the nets. There were only few.
Fishlegs blew the horn, signaling them to stop throwing sheeps in the air. I started to count how many sheeps were in the nets.
"The results will be announced at the end of the day, at the Great Hall! In the meantime our quests can relax and wait!" I exclaimed.
There were few groans and cheers. I walked down the pedastal, Toothless behind me. At the entry of the Academy, Astrid was waiting.
"You should rest m'lady." I grinned.
"Nice job prepairing this game. Really challenging." She put her hands on her hips.
"Why thank you Astrid."
Toothless nudged me foward.
"Grrrrrgggg." He looked at me and started, with his head, moving me foward.
"Alright, alright bud. We're going." I laughed
"Lets meet later, ok?" Astrid walked next to me.
"Of course." I put my hand on Toothless snout so he could stop nudging me. She smiled at him and jumped on Stormfly and she flew away. Toothless pushed me, again, and this time i fell on the ground. He laughed.
"Very funny."
Hazels p.o.v
"Do you think we can have another race later?" Gustav offered. I tilted my head a bit.
"Sure, but be prepaired to lose." I remarked with a smirk.
"I was born a winner." Gustav replied and mounted on Fanghook and he flew off
"Congenital thing will not help you to win." I folded my arms and started walking. Before i know it my feet werent on the ground anymore
"Lumina!"i yell when i look up.
"Sorry. I had to do that." She didnt sound serious.
"Get me on the ground, please?!"
I will never get use to talking in dragonese.
"Fine." She put me right in front of the Great Hall. It was lunch time anyway. I open the Halls doors and i go where there is a plate with honey, chiken and cooked fish.
"You were right. Easy pray is boring to eat. Not so satisfing." Lumina walked right next to me. Atleast she cleaned her teeth from blood.
"You should listen to me more often." I suggest and start to eat.
She snarled in amusement
"Oh really? Who was the one that gets in trouble more then me?"
I didnt answer and continued eating.
"Though so."
End of p.o.v
"Hello." A familar voice made Hazel sigh in annoyence. She looked at the man and fake smiled.
"I'm sorry to disturb you, but can we talk?" He asked politely.
"Hazel, be careful. I dont like this guy." Lumina warned her. Hazel turned at her and then back to Eirik. He was dressed like a royal with perfecly brown hair and muscilar body structure. Hazel guessed that every girl in his tribe might be in love with him.
To her - he was the person she didnt want to talk to.
"I apologise, but i have places to be right now." Hazel tried not to sound too cold or firm. She standed up, leaving her half-finished lunch on the table.
Eirik touched her elbow, but when he did Lumina dangeriously hissed. He released her becouse Lumina moved right bettween them, giving him a warning glare.
"Touch me again and you will regret it. Son of a Chief or not, you are, to me, like the rest of vikings." Hazel looked at him, yet again. "I apo-"he started when she raised her palm. Signaling him to stop talking.
"Dont say your apologies. Like i said before - i have places to be." She walked out of the Great Hall with Lumina behind her.
"Hazel you have to be careful who you talk to. This is a very dangerous thing you left him in his memories." Lumina stopped and so did Hazel.
"I know." She shortly remarked and mounted on her. Next thing she knows, she slided down on the ground. The saddle broke.
"Ouch." She rubbed her head. Lumina stared at her in concern.
"Are you alright?"
Hazel sat up and took the old saddle. "We need a new one." She stated holding it.
"Maybe Hiccup can make a new one?" Lumina suggested.
"Lets go find him." She standed up and rubbed her back a bit. It was sour, but not painful.
Hazels p.o.v
We both started our search at the forge.
"Hey lassie. What brings you here?" Gobber asked once he saw them.
"Is Hiccup here? My saddle is....broken." i gave it to him. He though for a moment.
"Dont worry las. You will have a new saddle in no time."
He assured.
"You can make saddles?" I narrowed my eyebrows. Never though he could have the skill, but i dont know him that well anyway.
"Of course i can las! Now do you want with a horn or maces?" He asked very eagerly.
My eyes widened a bit by his suggestion.
Authors note
When sun has set and Chiefs with there next generations are sitting at the Great Hall, soon it was time to announce the winner.
Toothless slowly nudged Hiccup by his arm. Hiccup looked down at him and nervously sighed.
He held a paper of the winner.
"Everything is going to be alright."
There was the voice again. Hiccups thoughts trailed to the mysterious rider and Hazel. There has to be something connected or related to the fact that rider knew dragonese.
He shook his head. Right now he has to focus on the quests.
Valka walked next to him.
"It's time." She whispered in his ear. Hiccup slowly noded. Toothless walked with him to the podium(is that what that thing was called?)
Everyone still chatted until Hiccup exclaimed "Can i have your attention...please!"
The Hall slowly started to become quiet and Hiccup grinned.
"It has been challenging three days for all of us! I hope our quests had a good time a-"someone inturrupted him and voice was odly similar to Spitlouds. " - Just tell us the winner!"
Few noded there heads.
"Like i was saying,"Hiccup narrowed his eyes for a moment then went back to his previous expression,"and also i hope dragons didnt couse trouble. Now the moment has come. The Thawfest games champion and winner will have a chance to train his or her own dragon -"again he was rudely intturrupted
"-JUST SAY THE WINNER!"
All the dragons growled at the shouter, obviously irritated.
Hiccup unfolded his paper.
"The winner is - Eirik! Son of the Vadir. The Chief of Silent Lighting tribe!" He announced.
Hazel didnt clap at all. She just had a emotionless expression on, while others cheered and some stayed silent(ironic..isnt it?).
Hiccup shook his hand.
After few speeches they held a feast.
The gang and Hazel decided to talk to Eirik since his father wasnt there.
"He had an urgent buisness back at our tribe. I think i am staying here for a while."
That wasnt good news since they plan to leave this night.
"What kind of dragon do you want?" Tuffnut eagerly asked. Eirik chukled and though.
Then he glanced at Hazel.
"I want one of those species." He pointed at Lumina direcly.
Hazels eyes widened wider then Night Furys wing span.
"What?!" She exclaimed.
"Hazel dont panic." Astrid put her hand on her shoulder.
"Is there a problem?" Eirik narrowed his eyebrows, turning his look at Hiccup.
"Yes. Yes there is." Hazel spoke before Hiccup could answer.
"Why? If you could train a Changewing why no-"Snotlout stopped talking once he saw Lumina giving him a death glare.
"Hiccup can we talk. In private?" Hazel asked with very serious expression on her face.
"Of course." Hiccup agreed and they both went outside the Great Hall.
Hazel started pacing back and front with Lumina looking at her.
"I cant train him a Changewing. It's against everything. Against Changewing nature." She spoke firmly, looking at him.
Hiccup sighed "We will try change his mind, but why is it against there nature? I want to know."
Hazel let out a sigh. Like she held her breath and now let it out.
"Hiccup, dont you unserstand? Changewings are pack dragons. They rely on each other at all times. They are really protective over every hatchling. If i go back with news that one of them has to leave, just becouse a viking won and by chose, i think they will never, ever be in a friendly relationship with vikings and they could even attack innocent people. Hiccup this is all too dangerous and risky. Odin who knows what will happen, but i know nothing good." Hazel shook her head.
"Of course not." Lumina added
"Understandable. Dont worry Hazel. There are other dragon species he can choose." Hiccup reassured her.
She smiled gratefully. "Thank you Hiccup. I mean it."
They both went inside where vikings had a great time. Atleast it looked that way.
"What happened?" Astrid approached them, with Eirik too.
Hazel shifted from foot to foot and looked at Hiccup.
"I'm sorry Eirik, but there's no way you can have a bond with a Changewing."
Eirik didnt seem happy by his answer.
"Why? Why not me? She has a Changewing, why not i cant have?" He looked at her then pointed at Lumina.
"Can i bite his finger off?" Lumina almost begged to Hazel.
"Tempting, but no." Hazel sighed.
"Hazel has been with them ever since she was a little girl. Thats an exception." Hiccup looked calm. Eirik looked at Hazel, once again. Like his father, he also widened his eyes when he saw Hazels necklase with a simbol on it.
"I'm sorry, but where did you get that?" He stricly asked her.
"What exacly?" Hazel folded her arms.
"The necklase." He rolled his eyes like he would be talking to a dum child.
"From my parents. Now let me explain you something,"her eyes gave him a glare, while she stepped foward to him,"you will not and never have a bond with a Changewing, becouse mostly your personality is something that they would hate. Also you already have got a Changewing on the bad side so dont make it worse to attempt training one." Hazel finished her warning. Eirik eyes were widened in shock.
Astrid whispered in Hazels ear "Loved what you said to him."
Hazels corner of her mouth lifted up a bit.
"Apologise right now. You have forgotten who you are talking to." Eirik had furious look in his eyes.
Hazel, suprisingly, laughed
"Dont be silly. I know that i am talking to a stu-" she stopped once she realised that her sentence might bring war. Instead she just fake smiled "I'm sorry." She said it with sarcasm.
Eirik didnt even notice it,judging by his expression.
"Son of Vadir,"Hiccup spoke up,"you should first meet the rest of our dragon species before choosing just one." He suggested.
Eirik though for a moment and agreed.
That was a relief. For now.
That night the gang were about to leave since Valka said to them that she will take care of everything, with Gobber. Hazel had her new saddle with even light bags.
"Please change his mind." Hazel said it when she hugged Valka. She already knew what Hazel was talking about. They pulled away.
"Dont worry." She shortly remarked, with a confident smile.
Gustav knew about there journey.
He walked up to Hazel.
"When you return, can we have another race?" He challenged.
Hazel finally let out her natural laugh. "Of course." She smiled. Before mounting on Lumina, Gustav touched her elbow that made her jump by his sudden touch.
"Be careful, alright?" He looked at her with a caring look.
"I have Lumina by my side, i will be careful." She return a smile and Gustav let her go.
"Do you have everything you need?" Valka looked at his son.
"Yes, mom. Are you sure th-" for the multiple time, this day he was inturrupted
"Everything will be alright. Just return home." She tilted her head up a bit. The Thunderdrums will fly with them, but they will stop at Dragon Island.
"Is everyone ready?" Eric asked.
"Yes, now lets go already!" Snotlout impatienly shouted.
They all took off.
"To the great beyond!" Tuffnut shouted while pumping his fist in the air.
"To the great beyond!" Everyone repetead at the same time and let out a little laugh.
"Let this adventure begin." Hazel though with a smile.
