CHAPTER 12: The Beast Of The Night (II)

In downtown, everyone from their homes was evacuating the city. Many law enforcement officers arrived to make sure the citizens were safe.

"Attention everyone, please move out of your homes immediately! I repeat, move out of your homes immediately!" a police officer with a megaphone announced.

"I don't know where Ella could be, but I hope we find her," said Mr. Joe.

"And she still owes me my ticket," said Kate.

"Ticket?" they all asked in unison.

"Yeah, ticket to the 5QS1 concert," she sighs wistfully.

"Uh, hello, Kate? You are aware that we're currently experiencing an unprecedented situation, correct? Is it the tickets or our lives you are worried about? Like seriously?" asked Christopher, annoyed.

A little girl holding her teddy bear asked a police officer where Howling Wolf was and if she was coming to rescue them. The police officer knelt down, his eyes meeting the little girl's wide, hopeful gaze. The weight of her question hung in the air, and he felt a mix of responsibility and uncertainty.

He cleared his throat, choosing his words carefully. "Well, sweetheart," he began, "Howling Wolf is... a special kind of hero. She's like the wind that whispers through the trees, unseen but always there. Sometimes, she appears when people need her most, and other times, she remains hidden, watching over us from afar."

The little girl's eyes widened further, and her teddy bear clutched tightly against her chest. "But will she come to rescue us?" she pressed, her voice trembling.

The officer hesitated. He wasn't sure himself. Howling Wolf had saved lives, intervened in dangerous situations, and vanished without a trace.

"Sometimes," he finally replied, "heroes arrive when we least expect them. Maybe Howling Wolf will come, or maybe she won't. But remember this: even if she doesn't, there are other heroes—ordinary people like you and me—who look out for each other. We'll do our best to keep you safe."

The little girl nodded solemnly, her trust in the officer unwavering. As he stood up, he glanced at the horizon, wondering if Howling Wolf truly existed.

And so, with a gentle smile, he patted her shoulder. "Stay close," he said, "and keep believing. You never know when the wind might carry Howling Wolf to our side."

"Look! It's Howling Wolf!" shouted an old woman, and everyone that was there saw her. They all cheered seeing her fight with Demon Wolf on buildings from afar. Every person watching the epic fight was so enthralled, watching for the next move.

"I knew you would come. You can do this. We all believe in you," whispered the little girl.

With the speed of a cat, while the splinters were still hanging mid-air, Demon Wolf spun his body around and swept his foot towards his opponent's head.

The attack was so quick that Howling Wolf wasn't hurt; it actually pushed the assassin a foot and a half into the air.

She was curious; why didn't that hurt?

"For twenty thousand years, I've been waiting for this moment, and finally, it's happening. The three wise men tried to stop me from ruling this mortal word and had doubts about me, but now they were wrong!" said the Demon Wolf.
"They were just weak, pointless, and afraid to do so, but look at me now!"

"No, you're the one who is wrong, not the wise men. They knew if you absorbed all the spirits from the spirit world, you'd be uncontrollable and dangerous," replied Howling Wolf.

"You dare insult me, child?! I don't even believe they entrusted you with this power you don't understand. The most powerful weapon in the spirit realm, the sword, is in the hands of a child."

Briskly, he rolled forward and, halfway through, slid straight, so that he slid under Howling Wolf and stopped facing the rising assassin's back.

The Demon Wolf cocked both arms back and double-punched upwards into her back.

Air whooshed from the swordsman's lungs as she was pushed even higher into the air. The impact from the attack gave Demon Wolf a couple feet between him and Howling Wolf.

He looked to his right and saw the lip of the dance floor, just an arm's length away now. "This is going to hurt you, just as much as it is going to hurt me." He promised her with a forewarned wince.

He quickly performed a handspring to his feet, crouched just under Howling Wolf with his legs coiled underneath her.

He exploded from the ground towards her rising form. He grabbed the assassin around the waist, twisted mid-air, and arched the two of them towards the wall, easily angling her head first, towards the raised lip of the dance floor.

Howling Wolf collided with the raised floor, and her head plowed through the woodwork with a painful cracking and crunching sound as the wood shattered under the enormous pressure from the attack.

Demon Wolf let go and managed to aim himself towards the level below. He landed with ease and rolled to his feet.

Then he looked back at the assassin, and a look of brief sadness flashed across her face.

Howling Wolf's body hung vertical for the briefest moment, suspended in an ephemeral moment in time, then she collapsed, her head still firmly stuck into the ground. The rest of her hit the ground in an uncomfortable position, but she was still breathing.

"Ella, are you alright?" asked her inner wolf.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," replied Howling Wolf in a silent voice.

"Listen, don't forget to use the powerful howl to defeat Demon Wolf."

"Of course, why did I not think of that before? But how on earth am I supposed to do it?"

"Trust your instincts. I'm with you."

"Well, that had to hurt. Giving up?" asked Demon Wolf. He looked down at one of his hands and noticed one of his nails was bleeding.

"What? Dammit! I broke a nail!" He exclaimed in frustration. "But that's impossible; I am not supposed to feel pain."

"Ha! Too bad," said Howling Wolf as she slowly got up and started clearing the dust from her super suit.

    "You ready?"

"I was born ready!"

She shifted into her wolf form and fled to the tallest building she could find.

"Where are you running to, you weak and cowardly so-called warrior?!" The Demon Wolf then followed her.

With all her superspeed at full, she was able to get far from Demon Wolf, but he was still on her tail, and that was her plan—to lure him into a trap. After she had gotten to one tall building, she climbed up to the top with her razor-sharp claws.

When she saw him coming, she stood back with all her sharp teeth merged. She was to wander stealthily in, or as if in, search of prey (she was ready to prowl).

"I do not know what you are trying to do, but it is pathetic and also pointless!" said Demon Wolf. While all this was going on, in downtown and all over the country of the Netherlands, the evil spirits were at 85% taking over the region and its population, and before one knows it, the rest of the globe.

The skies turned from red to white as Howling Wolf was about to unleash her powerful howl, and she did.

      "ARH-WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Her howl was so powerful, even more so than her Alpha roar. The waves of it came with a yellow spirit wolf, and it hit directly at Demon Wolf until he could not move a muscle, and it drained all the powers of the sword from him back to its rightful owner.

"Noooo! This can't be!! Who do you think you really are?!"

"If you must know, I am Howling Wolf, defender of the spirits and my world. You don't belong in this realm, Acacius, and now it's time to finish you and make everything you have done back to normal!"

Still in her wolf form, she powered up the sword and held it in her teeth. That wasn't all yet; she basically did 8 angles of attack with her sword when cutting the demon: straight down, straight up (ouch!), diagonally down to the right, diagonally down to the left, diagonally up to the right, diagonally up to the left, and left and right strikes horizontally.

BOOM! Here comes the explosion, and that was the last time the world would ever see the Demon Wolf again. Immediately after defeating him, all the evil spirits disappeared, and those who came out of people's bodies also disappeared, and they were no longer monsters.

The sky was back to normal, and all the spirits that were absorbed by the Demon Wolf were back in the spirit world too.

"We did it. I don't believe we finally did it! Wahoo!" shouted Howling Wolf as she rejoiced in victory.

"No, Ella, you did it. You believed in yourself, and that was the fuel for your success," said her inner wolf.

"Yeah, I get that, thanks. But I couldn't have done it without you."

Suddenly, in a pall of smoke, a shadowy figure was moving towards Ella. After it was cleared, it was Eric, and he was back to his normal self.

     "El-Ella? Is that really you?"

"Eric! Oh boy, I'm so happy to see you," replied Ella, and she ran to embrace him.

"Woah, what happened?" asked Eric. He totally had no idea what really happened.

"Man, it's a long story."

And they embraced each other once more.

Later in the morning, Howling Wolf ended up in a place where a lot of people were. When others saw her, they were happy and started cheering her name.

"HOWLING WOLF! HOWLING WOLF! HOWLING WOLF!"

The same little girl with a teddy bear came to her and said, "Thank you for saving us, Howling Wolf. You are my hero."

The girl hugged her, and some people were like, "Aww."

"You're welcome, kid. I will always do everything in my power to protect the good citizens of the Netherlands, even you."

Howling Wolf carried her on her shoulder and was glad that things were back to where they were.

"Okay, I better run. See you, folks!" She dropped the girl and left the crowd.

Mr. Joe, Victoria, and her friends were there at the scene. Howling Wolf went to an alley where nobody was there to change her super suit; at least it was covered with her regular clothes.

"Hi guys," greeted Ella, standing behind Mr. Joe and others while putting her hands in her pockets.
"So, what did I miss?"

"Where were you, young lady? We have been looking everywhere for you. You know what? You are grounded for a week, and you have some explaining to do after we have all settled," said Mr. Joe, frowning.

Then she started laughing weakly. At the very least, all she accomplished was worthwhile. And yes, she saved the world.
