"Oh, there you guys are!" Lily announced, causing Solana to look up from her phone as she was just about to dial Thalia.
"Fashionably late, sorry." Calvin apologized. "Someone was scavenging for a quick drink." He nudged Thalia's shoulder as she scoffed at him, causing Lando to slightly snicker.
The group chuckled, the sound mingling with the distant thrum of bass from inside the club as they all now stood near the roped-off entrance.
At the door stood a broad-shouldered bouncer, clipboard in hand, stood sentinel, his expression unreadable.
"You guys ready then?" Sol asked, a smile on her face as Manny's arm mindlessly rested around her shoulder. Her friends clearly not missing it by a beat.
Calvin secretly wiggled his eyebrows.
Solana rolled her eyes.
"Ready!" Alex said happily alongside Lily.
The line of hopefuls stretched from the entrance all the way down the block. It was filled with partygoers exchanging envious glances as the group was ushered toward the VIP entrance. Heads turned. Whispers rippled.
The bouncer's eyes flicked to Calvin as they approached. "Name?" He asked gruffly, his tone devoid of any warmth.
"Sinclair, comma Calvin," He replied, arching a brow with theatrical flair. His face was calm, but the glint in his eye suggested he was daring the man to question him.
The bouncer's stone-cold face didn't change as he scanned the list. A brief pause, a nod, and the velvet rope was unhooked. "Go ahead."
"Thalia Tran," Came the next name. She smiled softly, happily waiting to be let in.
The bouncer barely glanced at the clipboard before nodding. "In."
One by one, the names were ticked off, the group filtering through with ease. That is, until Solana stepped forward. Her smile was polite, poised, and confident as she adjusted the strap of her clutch.
"Valerio," she said simply, her tone cool.
The bouncer's gaze fell back to the list. His expression tightened. He scanned the clipboard once, twice, flipping pages before looking back at her.
"Not on the list," he said flatly.
Solana blinked, momentarily stunned. "I.. Hm?" Her eyebrows raised, anticipating a repetition to make sure she heard correct.
"You. Are not on the list," He repeated, his tone sour.
The rest of the group had froze mid-step, pausing when they realized she didn't get through easily like the rest of them. Thalia was quick to spin on her heel, her brows knitting together. "She's not?" Her question nearly came out as a confused laugh.
"Check again," Calvin chimed, his tone deceptively light, though irritation danced on the edges of his words.
"Solana Valerio," Thalia repeated, her voice soft but laced with an edge of authority. "It should be there..."
The bouncer sighed, clearly unimpressed but humored them anyway. He ran a finger down the list, flipping pages with exaggerated slowness before looking back up.
"She's not here. If you're not on the list, you're not getting in."
"That's not right," Calvin laughed awkwardly, stepping closer. His usual playful demeanor was gone, replaced with sharp precision. "Babe, show him the text Charles sent."
"Maybe there was a mistake..?" Lily's soft voice chimed, suggesting a mere possibility as Alex nodded.
Solana's calm exterior didn't falter as she pulled out her phone. "It's fine," She said, shaking her head gently. "You guys can go ahead. I'll call Charles or Arthur and figure it out." She waved them off, scrolling through her contacts.
"No?," Thalia insisted, her voice almost assuring she was in no mood for any arguments. "We're not going in without you."
Quickly, the model grabbed Lando's hand, dragging him back through the velvet ropes but the bouncer moved in her way to stop her.
"If you leave, there is no re-entr—"
"Personal space," Thalia quirked a brow, carefully watching the hand the bouncer had raised as if she were testing the waters. Was he for real about to touch her?
"I'm certainly not leaving her out here."
Solana let out a soft sigh, holding tightly onto the hand Thalia had placed on her shoulder as she pressed her phone to her ear. The line for Charles rang once, twice, and a third time before going to voicemail.
Her stomach twisted, but she didn't necessarily expect him to pick up. He was definitely celebrating. But as she dialed Arthur next, she was disappointed to only meet the same result.
"No answer," She admitted quietly, her voice barely above a whisper as she attempted to call Arthur a second time.
"The text messages, babe," Calvin repeated, his tone sweet but his frustration for her was clearly mounting.
Solana nodded before opened her texts, pulling up Charles's detailed instructions and holding it out for the bouncer to see.
But he barely glanced at the screen. "Doesn't matter. If you're not on the list, you're not getting in."
"Are you serious?" Thalia was almost speechless. "I'm sorry, I hate to pull this card but, you do know who she is right?"
The bouncer didn't flinch, though his jaw tightened slightly. His face remained impassive as he crossed his arms. "Doesn't matter who she is," He said bluntly. "If her name's not on the list, she's not getting in."
"Mate, come on," Alex tried to join in as Lando was right on his tail to piggy back his statement. The two driver's own irritation for the tennis player creeping in.
"She's with us. Can't you just let her through?" The McLaren driver sighed.
"I am not obligated to care about who you are or whatever your status is," The bouncer replied, his voice laced with indifference. "It's an exclusive event. And like I've stated, multiple times Mr. Norris.. If she's not on the list, she's not getting in."
Before Solana could respond, Thalia's patience finally snapped. She grabbed the tennis player by the arm, movements firm and decisive. "This is ridiculous." She shook her head, attempting to re-enter. "Just come in with us—"
But, the bouncer was quick to move and block her path, shoving Solana back with a heavy hand. She stumbled, catching herself on Calvin's arm. The look on her face flushed with shock and embarrassment, the same emotions mirroring the rest of the group.
"Oh, come on!" Manny stepped in, his voice slicing through the tension as he placed a hand on the bouncer's chest to space him away. "Watch it."
Lando and Alex sent harshly judgmental looks to the bouncer, shaking their heads in disbelief and slight embarrassment they had to even deal with this. "This is actually just ridiculous, mate." Lando crossed his arms, falling into minimal conversation with Alex.
Calvin's eyes darkened, his jaw agape as he was genuinely taken aback. "Oh, shoving is crazy." He said nearly laughing.
Before anyone could say more, Thalia surged forward, eyes burning with fury. "Are you out of your mind?" She seethed, stepping into the bouncer's space. "Who do you think you are, manhandling her like that?"
The bouncer barely flinched, his expression still unreadable. "I told you, she's not on the list. She's not allowed in. End of discussion."
God, he sounded like a broken fucking record.
"No, no. You don't get to shove people and then act like this is just policy!" Thalia snapped, pointing a finger at his chest. "We showed you the texts. We gave you proof. And even if that wasn't enough, you seriously think she's not supposed to be here? You and I know exactly who she is."
"Doesn't matter who she is," The bouncer replied, his tone flat, but there was something in the way his jaw tensed that suggested he wasn't entirely unaffected by Thalia's rage.
"Rules are rules."
"Rules are rules?" Thalia scoffed, a sharp laugh escaping her. "You're so fixated on a damn list that you can't even use an ounce of common sense. Get over yourself."
"She's not stepping inside, end of story," He grimaced, crossing his arms. "Now you either leave the premises now or you shut your mouth and enter the club."
Thalia about had it at this point. "You're an absolute fuc—"
Lando quickly stepped back in, placing a hand on her lower back. "Thals—"
"No!" She flinched him away, voice trembling with rage. "This whole situation just doesn't make any sense?! Why is she not on the list?!"
Solana exhaled, her fingers wrapping around Thalia's wrist. "My love, let it go."
"No, baby, this isn't okay?" Thalia fired back softly, attempting to not project her anger towards Sol. "I'm not letting this slide!"
"It's not worth it," Sol pleaded softly. "Let's just go."
"Fine." She growled.
Lando, Alex, and Manny didn't need to be told twice.
Calvin wrapped an arm around Solana's shoulders, pressing a kiss to her temple. Lily rubbed slow circles on her back.
Thalia clenched her jaw. She quickly turned back to the bouncer, eyes full of pure, unapologetic fury. Then, without another word, she lifted both of her hands, and flipped him off.
"Suck a dick!" She called out, but Calvin had already pulled her back and decided maybe her prior drink had finally caught up to her.
Kinda not good...
Nonetheless. The group had now walked off.
Leaving the line, the bouncer, and the entire celebration of Charles behind.
