STROLLING THROUGH THE PIT LANE, Solana casually walked as she was on a mission to fetch Thalia from the McLaren garage so the pair could watch Practice 2 with the others in a suite together. A new race weekend finally approached and this time, it was in the beautiful city the girl got to call home.
Through her small adventure, Sol had been stopped by other drivers for a small greeting or to take pictures with fans that had all access passes.
Finally arriving to the familiar papaya garage, Sol spotted Thalia speaking with Lando when the model caught sight of her right away. With an immediate and eager smile painting her face, the girl bid her boyfriend a quick goodbye with a kiss on the cheek before making her way towards the tennis player.
"My sweets!" The duo caught the attention of passersby as they squealed in excitement, happy to see each other.
"Where's Lily and Calvin?" Thalia asked.
"Waiting for us back at the suite." Solana replied, holding her hand. "They've been kept waiting so we should get going! I took my sweet time getting here..." She glanced at her phone for the clock before looking back up to smile.
Proceeding to go ahead and walk back the opposite way she came from, the duo fell into a mindless conversation about any upcoming events they had or anything new that might've happened since the last time they saw each other, which was only about a week ago.
"Honestly, it seems like a dream to live here. I might just move." Thalia sighed as she took a deep breath. Basking in the warm Monegasque sun.
"Forget Lando and move in with me." Sol nudged her friends arm as she received a smirk in response.
"Don't tempt me. That villa of yours is perfect for three kids and a happy family." Thalia smiled. "So basically, it's perfect for you and me."
"With a dog or two! Sounds like a dream." The tennis player went on.
"Hm... how does a throuple sound?" Thalia snickered at her own joke, as she thought to include Lily. "All of us. You, me, and Lily. No Alex, No Lando, Just us three and an endless amount of children and dogs and cats."
"What about... a four-way? We can't forget Calvin." Solana shook her head, laughing at her own choice of words.
"Oh—I can forget Calvin." The model joked with a devious smirk as the girl beside her gave a suppressed grin.
"I'm telling him you said that."
"Oh, girl. I'd say it to his face myself." Thalia scoffed, making Sol giggle. "But! It's settled. I think we should all quit our careers and become lovers in your villa." She smiled, interlocking their arms.
"Yeah, you officially had me at quitting our careers—"
"SOLANA!" The two were suddenly interrupted as they passed the Ferrari garage. "Sol!"
Stopping in their tracks to find the familiar face of the voice that called her name, Thalia and Solana were soon met with a distressed Charles, the top half of his race suit tied around his waist with a sweet and familiar puppy in his arms. The animal's tail wagging in extreme excitement.
"Oh!—Charles!" Solana didn't expect to see him so suddenly. "Hello, hello!" She greeted her dear friend with a brief side hug, also exchanging the polite European customs of subtle cheek kisses.
"LEO!" The girl exclaimed as she noticed the animal in his arms. The dog getting even more excited at the sound of her voice. "Mon bebé!" Her french was followed by a giggle, happily scratching the puppy's little plump belly.
"Good to see you!" He smiled wide but it was quick to fade. "Have you by any chance, seen Madeline?" Charles swiftly asked as he seemed to be in a hurry. "I haven't been able to find her and she isn't answering my calls."
"Oh, I have not." She shook her head before glancing at Thalia to see if she knew anything about the girl's whereabouts, but she shrugged in response.
"Maybe she's in a suite? ..." Sol crossed her arms, Charles keeping eye contact with her. The gesture making her wanna rip her hair out.
"She left me with Leo after practice earlier, but I need someone to take him again." He sighed. "I'm stressing because nobody in the garage can watch him for me and I need to get in my car soon." His voice was clear with irritation as he glanced around the pit lane, probably in hopes to spot his fiancé.
"Uhh.. we can take him?" Thalia spoke aloud with an offer.
"Really?" His eyes practically lit up as he glanced at the model before looking at Sol.
"Oh yeah, of course! It's way too loud for him to be in there anyways." Sol softly shrugged and held her arms out. "Leo loves me too!" Her statement was followed by a laugh as the puppy happily jumped into her arms, soon attacking her with dog kisses.
"You're a life saver!" Charles let out a breath of relief as he watched his lifelong friend interact with the puppy.
"Don't worry about it." Sol laughed. "We'll take good care of him."
"I owe you one." The Ferrari driver grinned, glancing back at the garage where his engineer had seemed to be left waiting. "I must go but, thank you again, I'll see you after practice?" His eyes stayed locked on hers as he slowly backed away, clearly in a hurry.
"Yes! Because I also need to have a chat with you." Sol quirked a brow as she remembered the events regarding her mom. Charles now seeming confused.
"Is everything okay?" He asked.
"I would hope so, but don't worry about it, focus on your job." She laughed and waved him off.
Nodding awkwardly, a sweet and thankful smile was still graced on his face before he turned on his heel and ran back to the garage. Charles held his race suit in place so it wouldn't fall down as the girls soon lost vision of him.
"It's like you're his mom." Thalia smiled, watching the dog eagerly wag his tail at the sight of the woman holding him.
"Isn't he the cutest?" Sol smiled, holding Leo up right before setting him down and closely holding the leash that was still attached to him.
"Who? Charles or Leo?" Her friend snickered, receiving a glare in response.
"Leo."
After a few more moments of lighthearted banter and happily watching Leo trot close by, Sol decided it was best to pick him back up since he was still so tiny.
As they continued their walk through the rest of the pit lane, Sol cradled the puppy in one arm while keeping her conversation with Thalia lively. Their frequent bursts of laughter drew curious glances and judgmental looks from others walking by before entering their suite.
"THALIA!" Calvin's voice called out as he was sat beside Lily. The two casually lounging around as they were waiting for practice to start.
"Miss me?" The model smirked as he stood up to take her in for a hug.
"Well, you've been seeing that little british turd more than me, so yes. I have missed you." He sighed, not letting go.
"Okay, okay, off." She snickered before they pulled away.
"Oh!" Calvin's brows raised as Lily soon stood to join them, giving Thalia a kiss on the cheek as a greeting. "Babysitting, again?" He looked at Sol.
"What—Oh! Yes!" She was briefly confused before remembering the animal friend in her arms. "Wanna say hi?" Sol cradled Leo as she stepped closer for them to give him pets.
"He looks exactly like Charles." Lily grinned.
"Pampered just like him too." Calvin scoffed. "But why do you have him?" He asked.
"Charles couldn't find Madeline." Sol shrugged. "He needed someone to take him, so Thalia and I did."
"That wench can't even watch what's practically her kid?" He quirked a brow, shaking his head sarcastically as he somehow found any way to hate on the girl.
"Cal!" Sol pulled Leo away and covered his ears. "Not in front of him!" She played around and tried to censor him for the sake of the young puppy.
"It's a dog, Solana." His expression was dead.
"Well, dogs are smart!" She defended.
"I don't know about this one... there is not a thought behind those eyes." Calvin pointed.
"Don't be mean!"
"You really are too pure for this earth, mon amour." Thalia interrupted with a laugh from her and Lily.
"Don't 'mon amour' me!" Sol shot back. "Just did." Her friend held her arms up in defense with a cocky grin.
As the hour went by, Sol eventually let Leo down and allowed him to roam around the suite, but still kept him on a leash to keep him close.
Practice 2 eventually started and this time Solana paid more attention than she did during Practice 1 since Charles had kept a better position this time. As she played with Leo, chatted with her friends, and cheered on her dear friend as he was succeeding so far during their home race weekend, her heart felt filled.
"I really think he's got a shot this weekend." The tennis player spoke up with a wide smile as Charles finished P1 during this practice.
"I believe in him." Thalia smiled, "It's gonna be a good one." Lily nodded in agreement.
"Leo! Look!" She picked the dog up and showed the screen to him as it broadcasted Charles. "Who is that! Who is that!" Her tone of voice for specifically animals came out, Leo getting excited at the sound of it and perhaps seeing his owner on TV.
As time passed, Sol and the others lingered, waiting for the lively race track to die down. They wanted to eventually make their way back to the pit lane without any rush, hassle, or interruption getting in their way.
"I should get him back to Charles soon." Sol finally spoke up. "Plus, I need to chat with him."
"About..?" Lily quirked a brow.
"Where have you been girl?" Calvin nudged her arm. "Charles dearest didn't invite her mom to the wedding." He laughed.
"NO WAY." The golfer gasped.
"We don't know if it was on purpose! Which is why I need to speak with him soon." Sol cradled Leo once more and grabbed her purse. "I'll see you guys later... should we grab dinner tonight?" She offered.
"I have plans with Lando, but I am happy with cancelling on him!" Thalia smiled.
"Girl." Calvin gave her a side eye.
"Dinner sounds beautiful!" Lily winked, "I might join you in the paddock, I need to find Alex." She mentioned after pocketing her phone. "We can just text you both." Her eyes fell on Calvin and Thalia.
"I need to head down there too actually, I've got to find Lando." The model bit down a laugh.
"You WAGs make me sick." Calvin scoffed. "Well... WAGs and WAG to be.." He glanced at Solana.
"That's my cue to leave." She hated the discussion of her being considered an F1 WAG, since it really wasn't what she was.
Turning on her heel, Sol walked away and out of the hospitality suite with Leo held in her arms, Thalia, Calvin, and Lily following shortly behind.
As she made her way back down to the paddock and eventually the pit lanes and garages, the four split up to their own respective garages, with Lily going to Williams, Thalia and Calvin entering McLaren, and Solana heading straight for Ferrari.
"Solana!" The girl heard a familiar voice call her out, soon matching the sound to Arthur Leclerc.
"Ah! Arthur!" She smiled and set Leo down to give the familiar boy a hug. "Good to see you, look at you!" Her statement was followed by a laugh.
"Hello, Leo!" The Leclerc sibling looked down at the dog, squatting down to briefly play with him before standing back up. "How have you been?" He proceeded to press into Solana's life.
"I've been good, tennis has been very challenging recently and all that. Happy to be home." She kept her response short. "And you? How are you doing?"
"Doing fine. Just trying to enjoy my life and all that." Arthur's accent was thick as he smiled wide. His playful demeanor making Solana smile.
"Have you seen Charles?"
"Am right here." He suddenly appeared from behind, startling Sol. Her brief jump in fear making the siblings laugh.
"Still such an easy scare?" Arthur teased as his older brother couldn't help but snicker.
"Oh, shut up, the both of you." She scoffed with a subtle smirk before re-composing herself and picking Leo back up. "Here he is. Still in one piece!" Her arms extended to Charles. The Ferrari driver effortlessly scooping the dog with one arm.
"I better get going, but I'm happy to have run into you!" The younger Leclerc sibling pressed a hand on her shoulder before the two gave each other a customary and brief cheek kiss. "See you around!" She waved as he gave his brother a hug and walked off.
"Have you still not seen Madeline?" Charles was quick to open up their conversation.
"Uhh—No." Sol shook her head. Quickly fixing the strands of hair that went loose.
"Mamma Mia.." He grumbled in annoyance. "It's alright, I'll just find her later." His shoulders lifted in a brief shrug before Leo leaped up to bite at his nose. "AH! Leo!!" He scolded, making Sol grin at the exchange.
"What did you want to talk about by the way?" Charles was quick to get back into their chat.
"Ah, right! Umm." Sol nearly forgot before he reminded her. "Right so, I just had one question."
"Which is?" He quirked a brow.
"I know it's not my business to meddle or judge who you do or don't invite... but is there a reason why my mom and family were not invited to your wedding?" She asked.
"What?" The Ferrari driver seemed nearly as shocked as she did when she found out. "What do you mean?"
"Why are you confused?"
"Because they are invited." His lips briefly formed a frown before his brows knitted in confusion. "Maybe they haven't received it yet?—I remember I sent it out along with yours."
"I suppose it got lost in the mail then because I've had my invitation for nearly weeks now..." Sol crossed her arms as Charles set Leo down to think deep in thought.
"Charles!" The pair were soon interrupted by an agitating, degrading voice.
The Bride herself.
"Madeline." Her fiancé seemed unamused to see her. Turning to the woman as she was quick to stand by his side and hold onto his arm.
"You." She glared at Sol.
"Good to see you too." The tennis player tried to keep it sweet.
"Where have you been?" Charles questioned as Madeline seemed nearly offended at the fact he was even asking. "I met with a friend." She bluntly replied as he scoffed in response. "A friend?" He repeated her words.
"Yes. A friend." The auburn-haired girl said coldly.
"Why haven't you been—Nevermind. I'll talk to you about it later. Not doing this in front of her." He stopped himself from arguing any further.
"What are you doing in front of her?" Madeline questioned with clear disgust. Sol fighting the urge to roll her eyes as she shifted her weight from one leg to the other.
"Talking to a friend." Charles' voice was nearly taunting as he repeated his fiancé's words from moments before. A smug expression on his face as it clearly ticked the woman off.
"About what exactly?" She was unamused. Her nostrils flaring in clear anger.
Always finding something to be upset about.
And for what?
Nobody really knew.
"Why her family hasn't received an invitation yet." Charles quirked a brow. "You don't happen to know anything about that, do you?" He glanced at his fiancé.
"Oh, I do." Madeline shrugged and crossed her arms. "I uninvited them." She laughed.
"What?!" Sol gasped. Her jaw nearly to the floor as she was thrown off guard, glancing at Charles to see what he had to say. "Excuse me?" He was just as surprised.
"They don't like me. Therefore, I don't like them. So they aren't coming to my wedding." The woman glared.
"Hm. I wonder why my family doesn't like you." Sol scoffed in disbelief. In awe at the amount of audacity Madeline always had.
"And having you be in attendance is already enough for me." She spat back before Charles stepped in.
"Madeline, it's our wedding." He corrected her while also trying to compose himself. "They have been nothing but good to me. They're practically my family too! They are invited." He argued in a calm yet agitated voice.
"Fine! Whatever, I don't care," Madeline snapped back, glancing at the tennis player. "You're just ruining everything by the second," She mumbled under her breath.
"You know what... I'm just gonna go," Sol finally spoke up, her voice uneasy. "I hope you two resolve whatever... this is." She said awkwardly as she slowly backed away.
"Sol—No."
"I'll see you around!" She was awkward. Feeling as if she was a burden or if she had sparked this argument just by asking Charles about her mom's invitation, she couldn't help but feel that way.
"Let her leave. If she wants to leave, let her," Madeline said, pulling Charles away as Sol finally turned on her heel and walked off.
"My goodness. It's moments like this that make me question why I'm even marrying you," Charles scoffed, his voice laced with pure irritation before he stormed off into the Ferrari garage.
Shocked at his words as she was able to pick up on his final statement, Sol glanced back with pure surprise as she watched Madeline furiously chase after him.
And she couldn't help but think, "This is a mess."
