✷ 004: Inconsiderate.

May 19, 2024 # "Small And Intimate."

SAT IN THEIR COZY living room, Charles and Madeline were positioned opposite each other, surrounded by stacks of wedding magazines, decoration prototypes, and scattered notes.

The mood was supposed to be joyful, filled with the anticipation of their upcoming romantic union, their wedding. But tension hung in the air like a heavy cloud as the couple was very much not on the same page.

"And you're still making invitations?" Charles asked, his voice tinged with confusion as he watched her work away.

"Well, yeah." Madeline glanced up. Her expression unhappy as she was stressed... a little more than usual. "We've still got pages and pages of our guest list to cover." She retorted as she scrambled through the messy piles of papers, handing over a stack of sheets to her fiancé.

"And where's our wedding planner you might be asking? I have no clue. She's practically useless." The woman grumbled as she continued folding away, tending to their invites.

Reading through each page delicately, the first two sheets making the most sense, Charles couldn't help but feel confused at the list that seemed never ending, each paper after the other filled with names he couldn't even recognize or at least pretend to remember.

"It's our big day, and we want everyone to be there to celebrate with us, don't we?" She questioned, noticing the familiar expression of confusion on his face as she snatched the guest list out of his hands.

Charles couldn't help but feel a pang of unease. "I thought we agreed on having a small and intimate wedding?" He thought. "We don't need to invite everyone we know..."

"Like what is this? Who even are some of these people?"

Madeline waved off his concerns, her attention focused on her task. "Family friends! People I've known since childhood, some that have watched me grow up. My mom's family, then there's my dad's side...." She scoffed before trailing off.

"And besides! The more, the merrier! I want everyone to attend our wedding."

"But what about what I want?" He asked with a small, uneasy chuckle. His eyebrow raising as he awaited her response with a small awkward laugh ar his lips

"Well, of course I want people at our wedding, but don't you think if it would be more intimate and meaningful if we kept it to a minimum of just our closest friends and family?" He asked. "Like we had planned...?"

Madeline's smile faltered for a moment, the center of her forehead wrinkling in confusion. "Trust me when I say this, Charles. But a grand wedding is what's best for both of us. You'll see."

"I think you're kind of missing my point." He said nervously. "I thought we were supposed to make decisions like these together." Charles paused. "We agreed to a short and intimate guest list." He repeated himself.

"Well I changed my mind." Madeline scoffed. "A long time ago actually." She set the pen in her hand down before glancing at him.

"We have three months until our wedding and you made the decision without me to invite more people?" He nearly laughed in disbelief. "Will they even fit in our venue?"

"Colette and I have got it covered. Don't worry." She tried to empathize. "We've even found a newer and bigger venue."

"What?!" He questioned. "New venue? Colette? Who the hell even is that?—" His eyebrows furrowed.

"Our wedding planner!" Madeline argued. "I have put lots of thought and care into this. I'm not making any rash decisions, Charles, don't worry about it."

"Are you hearing yourself?" Charles asked. "Do you even know what that means? You've already made a rash decision by choosing to expand our guest list? Even going ahead and choosing a new venue, without me?" He said with a frustrated demeanor.

"You're even making decisions with the wedding planner instead of your own soon to be husband." His voice laced with irritation as she huffed in annoyance.

"She may not be here but she's the best in the business. She and I have been working together smoothly with an entire team. I've got it covered." The woman defended.

"It's in three months, Madeline. Are you crazy?" Charles felt a knot forming in his stomach, a sinking feeling settling in. "I didn't agree to a grand wedding. I wanted something simple and meaningful?"

Madeline's expression hardened, her eyes narrowing slightly as she was feeling herself grow in rage. "I've been dreaming of this day my whole life. Ive realized I can't settle for anything less than perfection, and what's perfect to me is a grand wedding."

"Why are you not taking what I want into consideration?" Charles sighed, feeling defeated.

He knew arguing with Madeline was futile, but he couldn't shake the feeling that their wedding was becoming more about her vision than their shared happiness. "I'm trying to tell you, this isn't the wedding I want. We already agreed to something intimate. Something small and meaningful."

Madeline's eyes flashed with annoyance, her posture rigid with control as she was over the entire conversation they were having. Wanting nothing more than to just win this argument or put and end to it.

"I know what's best for the both of us." She scoffed. "If I don't take charge, nothing will ever get done properly. I refuse to leave our special day to chance."

"Again. Missing my point." He scoffed. "We need to make decisions like these together, like partners should?" Charles pleaded. "Shouldn't our wedding reflect both of us, not just your vision?"

Madeline's gaze turned icy, her control slipping for just a moment. "Are you saying you have a vision?" She nearly laughed. "What is your vision, Charles? You couldn't even plan your way out of a paper bag."

"You're ridiculous." Charles said in annoyance.

Standing up from his seat and began to mindlessly pace. "You know, ever since we began this planning process, we've started to argue a little more." He glanced at her as she huffed a breath, looking to the side in clear irritation.

"Because you don't want to cooperate with me." She crossed her arms. Receiving another glare from Charles as her words left him nearly speechless.

"You just don't take anything I say into consideration!" He shot back. Her jaw dropping at his slight burst as he tried to compose himself when he realized.

"Besides this supposed instance right now, when else have I not taken what you said into consideration?" She argued.

"When I said I wanted Solana to be our guest of honor." He was quick to respond. "And instead you chose for it to be your sister."

"Because she's important to me!" Madeline argued. "Why would we have her as our guest of honor at our wedding?!" She scoffed, referring to his mention of Solana.

"Sol should be important to the both of us! She's the reason we are together! The reason I fell for you? Why we even fell in love to begin with!" He said through disbelief. "Without her, I wouldn't have met you, and you wouldn't have met me."

"My sister is more important than Solana."

"What relevance does your sister have to our wedding. She's already your maid of honor." Charles scoffed.

"Don't you dare even try to argue with me about this. Solana will not be our guest of honor. Margaret already is, and that's final!"

"It's not just your wedding. You know it's my wedding too?" He looked at her through furrowed eyebrows, another roll from her eyes in response as a scoff escaped her lips.

"And aren't I the one paying for everything?" Charles nearly laughed.

"Oh, and here comes the money talk." Madeline laughed with a taunting tone. "I don't give a rat's ass about who is paying for what. This wedding will go my way."

"Are you serious?" Charles looked at her. An offended glare emitting from his eyes.

"Just leave the planning to me. It's too late now." Madeline's tone was now calm... nearly sounding condescending as she no longer wanted to argue, continuing to mindlessly work away with her vision as she was tired of Charles' objections and complaints.

"I love you, but just leave me be." Her tone was aggressive, yet composed. A specific tone that Charles hated deeply. "You're ruining my mood."

"Unbelievable."
