Chapter 8 - All Grown Up

Taking one final left turn, hands still locked together, Todoroki not willing to let go just yet, Midoriya not really minding anymore, having accepted that he wasn't getting his hand back anytime soon, they arrived at young Midoriya's home.

It wasn't as big or fancy as Todoroki's, compliments to his dad for that, but it was cozy, and it was most definitely home.

"Well, this is me." Said the green-eyed teen, barely tugging on his hand, wondering if the older teen was ever going to give it back.

'He led me the entire way here, it's not like I don't know where my own house is at.' He giggled a little as such thoughts played through his mind.

Feeling the pull, Todoroki realized that Midoriya was slightly blushing, and averting his gaze.

"I guess it is," he said, releasing the boys hand, instantly missing the warmth it brought to his fingers, "thanks for letting me walk you home and thanks for catching me up on the assignment."

He didn't really know how else he was supposed to play this off, never having played the boyfriend role, thought he wasn't Midoriya's boyfriend.

'Yet...' he thought.

Should he walk him to his door? Should he try to hold him back a few more minutes? Should he try going in for a kiss?

'No!' he instantly scolded himself.

"Don't worry about it, Todoroki. We are partners after all." He said, twirling his fingers together, as he rocked back and forth on his heels. He was staring at the ground, not really knowing what much else to say.

"And sorry about disappearing like that. It must have been really confusing." He said trying to calm the younger boy down.

Now he was just dragging it out, he could feel the other teens nervousness, so he decided to wrap it up with one final proposition, hiding his desires within a white lie.

"How about we exchange numbers, you know, in case something similar should arise, we can stay communicated." He said nervously.

Raising his head to look at the older teen, Midoriya's face instantly lit up at that great idea, plus, he didn't really have that many contacts on his phone; just Mom, Uraraka, Iida, and Mrs. Bakugo.

"Yeah, I'd love that. Good thinking Todoroki." He beamed as he took out his cellphone. "Here add yourself," He said exchanging devices with Todoroki, "and I'll add myself on yours."

Taking his phone back, looking for his father's contact, Todoroki looked at Midoriya, trying to memorize his cute soft features.

"Well, I really should get going, it'll get dark soon, and you've got training later." He said, pulling Midoriya into a quick hug before dialing his dad's number and walking away, a soft 'Goodbye!' was heard as his figure disappeared down the road.

Picking up what little dignity he still had left and trying to push down the blush that overtook his face, he whispered his goodbye to Todoroki, as he made his way into his house.

"Mom! I'm home!" He yelled into the house as he sat by his door.

Making quick work of his shoelaces, he took off his shoes and placed them neatly by the pair that belonged to his mother, letting him know she was home.

A small plushy green-haired middle-aged woman could be heard making her way towards the living room to greet her son.

"Welcome home Izuku, how was school? Did your friend come back today?" she greeted, swarming him with questions.

You could say Inko Midoriya was a worry wart when it came to her little Izuku, there was nothing that escaped this lady's sight. If something happened to little Izuku, she'd be the first to know. If he got sick, she'd instantly be by his side taking care of him.

She had become not only his mother, but she had also taken on the role of his father since his departure years ago. So, you would think her worthy for the mother of the year award, but little Izuku just kind of felt overwhelmed at times, though he knew she meant well.

"It was ok Mom, I worked alone all day, but Todoroki showed up at the end of the day and he walked me home." He quickly answered his mother's questions as they made their way into the kitchen.

"Oh? He walked you home?" she asked surprised, a slight smirk reaching her lips. "Is something going on that I should know about?"

Blushing madly at his mom's personal questions, he quickly put his hands up as he waved it off.

"No! It's not like that! He just wanted to catch up on the assignment before tomorrow." He said taking a seat on a stool in the kitchen island.

Making her way around her son, she entered the kitchen, getting ready to serve dinner.

"It'd be nice if you brought someone home occasionally Izu! Some nice girl or boy, you know I don't care about that. Whatever happened to Mitsuki's son, Katsuki? He used to come over a lot when you were children." She asked.

She wanted her to get her son to open up to her, it had been a while since they've had a decent conversation. She didn't need another one of those episodes from the past.

"Mom! You know I haven't dated before, it's not like it's going to happen overnight. These things take time." He stated.

"Plus, I don't know if Todoroki sees me like that. I don't know if I see him like that." He continued, not really knowing what to say about the blond.

"And Kacchan...well, Kacchan's just a whole 'nother topic himself, let's skip over that." He finished, flustering up as he mentioned his childhood friend, current bully.

Pretending she didn't see her son's obvious blush as he spoke about young Bakugo and not Todoroki, she washed her hands, and started to set the table.

"Well, we can talk about it some other day honey. But right now, go wash up, we're having dinner." She said, proceeding to serve her son's favorite dish: Katsudon.

Kami knows he needed it after these last two days of schoolwork, she could clearly make out that something was troubling her little boy, she just couldn't figure out what.

As he made his way upstairs to wash up, Inko was in the middle of placing a plate down when she heard a soft 'ding' notifying her she had a new message, pulling out her phone, she looked at the screen which read:

Mitsu: Inko! Quickly, I need you to figure out from Izuku if there's something going on between him and Katsuki. It's urgent, but nothing bad. ;)

Obviously distraught, though her friend did say it wasn't anything bad, she quickly replied.

Inko: Why? What's going on? Did Izuku get into trouble? :O

Putting her phone away and placing the last few objects on the table, she heard her son coming out of the bathroom as another message made its way into her phone, quickly pulling it out before Izuku could see her, she read:

Mitsu: No, nothing bad! Just do it! There's a week at the spa in it for you and me if I win this bet.

'Crazy blonde.' she thought as she looked up at her son. She was up to her games again, she couldn't help but get this devilish glint in her eyes as he made his to his chair, 'This is gonna be good' she thought as she pressed sent.

Inko: Count on it! ;)

"Mom is everything alright?" he asked, slightly worried. Scared of the smirk on his mother's face and the weird look she was giving him.

"Everything's perfect hon, now eat." She said placing his food down on his place mat. She then took her place in front of him.

Getting a whiff of his mom's wonderful cooking, he noticed it was his favorite, so whatever his mom was hiding, was quickly forgotten.

"Itadakimasu!" he yelled out and dug into his bowl.

"Sugoi mom! It's amazing!" He praised half a bowl later, as he made quick work of what was left.

Smiling at the happiness her cooking brought her son, she slowly ate her dinner.

"So Izu, how are you getting along with your classmates?" She had to play her cards right or he'd catch onto her and keep a tight lip on the dirt she was so keen on getting.

"Everything's great mom! I've made plenty of new friends this year!" he spoke, excitement ringing through his voice, "They all have such amazing quirks, you'd be so surprised. They're going to be such cool heroes!'

"That's great sweetie. So, you're getting along well with everyone I assume, I don't want to be getting any calls from school telling me you're in any sort of trouble." She said, playing the victim card, she'd surely get him with that.

Not really knowing how to wiggle his way through that question, he still went on.

"Well, you could say everyone. I mean it's not like we don't get along. What I mean is that we barely speak." He was rambling now, she had him in her grasps, there was no escape.

"What I'm trying to say is that Kacchan rarely ever talks to me anymore, it's like I'm invisible, and when he does notice me he gets really angry and just tells me to fu-." He stopped himself, covering his lips with both hands dropping his chopsticks.

He was about to swear in front of his mother, and he had just told her what was going on between Kacchan and him.

'Crap! Crap! Crap!' he groaned inwardly, getting up from the table as he quickly excused himself, running up the stairs to his room.

"Bingo!" said Inko Midoriya picking up the last of what was left on the table, taking it to the kitchen.

"Must have been what he's trying to hide, he didn't even finish his dinner." She said to no one as she pulled out her phone, she opened up her last conversation and typed in:

Inko: Mitsu, you there? :3

She slowly began washing the dishes, feeling the cool water splash onto her hands. Grabbing the sponge and squirting some dish soap onto it, she scrubbed away the stains and leftover pieces of rice on the bowls. Going for the chopsticks, she heard the all too familiar 'ding'. Her friend had responded.

Finishing with the cups they had used, she shut off the faucet and wiped her hands dry on her kitchen apron. Digging her phone out of her pocket, she walked into the living room and sat on the couch where she raised her phone to see better and she read:

Mitsu: Yeah! Did you get it? Katsuki just came back from his jog, we're gonna eat dinner now, Masaru made some curry, want me to take some over later?

She smiled at her best friend's message. The crazy blonde really cared about her and her son, many times she would thank Kami for such an amazing friend and thank Kami she lived across the street.

She and her husband Masaru been there every step of the way since Inko's husband had left them, helping economically and emotionally, never once leaving her side.

Mitsuki had even been present the day little Izuku was told he wouldn't have a quirk.

'Worst doctor ever, got it all wrong, my baby was just a late bloomer,' she thought as she began typing back.

Inko: I appreciate the offer Mitsu, but you know we're not fans of spicy food...haha, but to answer your other question, yes, I got it.

Closing the messaging app, she opened Candy Crush to wait for her friends reply, before she was able to press 'play' a message banner popped up on the top of her screen which she quickly opened.

Mitsu: Well, the offer stands hon, there's enough to go around. Now back to the juicy stuff, I knew you wouldn't fail me! What did you figure out? :$

She could practically read her friends excitement, so she made quick work in texting back.

Inko: From the small ramble he had going on, you know that bad habit of his, they aren't getting along, though it seems to be one-sided. Katsuki doesn't seem to want to acknowledge little Izu any longer.

A tad bit worried about what was troubling her son, Inko wanted nothing more than to go up to his room and comfort him. Though she knew he would most likely not welcome it, what with being a teenager and all.

'Brats' she thought.

Playing a few rounds of Candy Crush, she had come down to her last life when her game was interrupted by another message, 'Took her a while' she said to herself before opening it and reading it.

Mitsu: Sorry for the delay, we were having dinner. Now, if what you're saying is true, I'm gonna beat Katsuki's sorry ass into next year if he knows what's good for him...though he just told us he was having some issues with his someone, IDK who. He's all grown up, so he can figure it out on his own.

Not believing she would let her son be, Inko worried that maybe the blonde female might do something drastic, so, she quickly typed back:

Inko: Noooo! Let them be Mitsu! They need to figure this out on their own, it's their struggle. We can only support them and give them our love. <3 Now what was it about a week at the spa that you were talking about?

She really needed a vacation, a break. She loved her kid but raising a child on your own could really be hard at times. He was old enough now that she could leave for a few days without anything bad happening, so she would not feel guilty about it.

Still on her messaging app, a little bubble showed up under Mitsuki's name.

Mitsu: Yeah, I guess you're right. Well, Masaru said he'd pay a trip for him and me to the spa and that I could bring a friend along, so I instantly thought of you. But that's only if I get the brat to fess up what's going on between him and Izuku, otherwise we ain't doing shit.

She could only feel grateful at the friend she had been blessed with; life was still good to her. Deciding she'd get better get bed, she replied with a quick 'Ok, let me know how it goes' before making her way up to her room.

She made a quick stop at Izuku's door, trying to make out any clue as to what he might be doing.

'My baby's all grown up...' she sadly thought.

Seeing no light filtering from under his door, she guessed he must have been asleep and called it a night herself.

Inside little Izuku's room, though no light was on, a bright glow could be seen emitted from his cellphone screen, slightly blinding the teen that held it.

He had been messaging Todoroki, finishing up some of the final details on their plan for tomorrow. Both teens were nervous, but for slightly different reasons.

Todoroki was finally going to confess to Midoriya and ask him out, but he was also giddy that they were officially texting. Midoriya couldn't wait for the showdown against the villain to show off what he they had prepared, and what he practiced with All Might.

Speaking of All Might, he needed to get ready to go out to train. His mom was unaware of his nightly lessons with the tall blond man; she'd flip if she saw how much he was overexerting himself to be better and she would instantly forbid him from partaking in any out of school training.

So, he had to pretend he was asleep and when he was sure his mom had gone to bed, he would quietly sneak out through his bedroom window and head to the park.

Noticing the time on his phone, he bid his friend one last 'good night' before grabbing his bag and jumping out onto the tree that blocked half of his window, thanking whatever squirrel had dropped that trees seed there facilitating him with an escape. Making his way down the tree and out the front gate.

'Alright, I haven't been caught.' He thought as he ran down to the park.

Little did Midoriya know, that across the street, ruby red eyes followed his movements as he made his way out and away from his home.

"Where are you going nerd?" whispered to himselfa slightly calmer blond, closing his blinds as the nerd disappear from sight.
