Chapter 6 - Friends Hold Hands, Right?

As all of class 1-A worked on their assignment, amazement could be seen in most of their faces at every new detail they learned about their partner and their quirks.

Aizawa had presented them with quite an opportunity, though a basic skill any hero should have, it was one that most wouldn't appreciate until later on in their formation as heroes. But in all honesty, they were just happy at how much they were bonding with each other, minus one green-eyed teen.

After a rather quiet and uncomfortable lunch accompanied by none other than Kacchan, they had continued their assignment a little bit more content now on a full stomach, all except for little Midoriya.

He hadn't noticed when or where Todoroki had gone off to, all he knew was that he wasn't there. Stuck in a rather complicated situation, that afternoon he decided that they would talk it out the next day.

Come Thursday, as he walked into homeroom, he was surprised at the sight of an empty desk where his normally stoic friend would sit.

'He must be running late.' Was all he could make out as he quietly took his seat.

He looked out the window, relishing in how the cool autumn winds would shake the Sakura trees out in the garden, petal after petal would fall, signaling the end of summer.

As his mind drifted off to the sight outside, he couldn't help but compare his friendship with Kacchan to the petals that were now littering the once dark green grass.

'It's like we were just blown away one day, we were ended with a slight breeze, as summer ends and autumn sets, easily as that.' He was putting himself down, and he knew it.

'No more unhappy thoughts Izuku! As autumn sets, so does winter, both of which prepare the way for the bright upcoming spring. Life will flourish as it does every year, our friendship will flourish!' He cheered inwardly, as a window was slightly blown open.

One soft pink petal made its way into the room, carried gently by that cool autumn breeze, and it landed softly on his desk.

"Don't become that autumn breeze Kacchan, don't blow me away..." was whispered by the small boy, as he stared at the petal.

It was nearing the end of the school day and Todoroki was nowhere to be seen, to make things even worse, Uraraka had been too caught up in her assignment with Iida, so he really had no one to vent to about the situation.

Aizawa sensei had simply brushed aside the teen's absence and told him to just continue as if he was there, to examine the teen and his abilities, that Todoroki could catch up when he returned.

'If he returns...' he thought walking back to his desk.

On another note, Kacchan hadn't spoken to him since lunch yesterday, 'Back to being a mute, I guess.' He scoffed, pulling out his notebook.

'Woah Izuku, bring it down a bit, you aren't like this.' He scolded himself at the comment. Not one to let frustration get the best of him, he started his analysis on his partner and his abilities.

Being the book worm he was, he already had a great deal of information about the older bicolor haired teen, considering they had fought at the festival and then he had observed the encounter between Todoroki and Kacchan.

'What a great fight.' He thought, 'Kacchan's simply an amazing fighter.'

As he continued working, madly trying to come up with some sort of idea that could help them out on their technique, he began trying to mold Todoroki's fighting ability with the new fighting style he had been working on with All Might last night.

'He really pushed me hard yesterday, I wonder where all this motivation is coming from...' he thought, quietly letting out a small giggle as he fondly remembered his tutor's enthusiasm.

Scribble, scribble, scribble was all the blond could hear coming from the green-eyed nerd, that is, until he heard a soft quiet giggle.

'What's got him so happy?' he thought as he explained to Kirishima how they were going to play it out tomorrow when they went up against the villain.

After they had lunch together yesterday, Bakugo had deemed it unnecessary to speak to the nerd, so he simply decided to sit there and watch him as he ate, and then observe him from afar as he struggled with his assignment.

'Should I tell him he was picked up by his father earlier?' he had thought at one point, a thought which was quickly put down as he returned the usually angry façade he had going on since grade school.

Why was the nerd making him space off so much? He wondered as Kirishima and him tried to mix their fighting styles.

It's like when the nerd's alone, he could peacefully sit back and just watch him, contemplate the way he squinted his brows, the way his cheeks would puff as he struggled with something he had written down.

'Cute...' he had found himself thinking on more than one occasion, scolding himself at such a soft comment.

More than once, his friend shitty hair, so kindly nicknamed by nonother than him, had caught him staring at the smaller green boy.

"Dude just talk to him. I'm more than sure he's willing to just sit there and listen." Encouraged the red-haired teen, giving his blond friend a soft push in Midoriya's direction.

"Like I'd ever try to mix myself with a shitty nerd, I don't need anyone holding me back!" he would say before turning around and focusing on the task at hand, but his mind would wander, his thoughts would poke at that wall he kept putting up deep in the darkest parts of his memories and feelings.

At the time he didn't notice it, but they were slowly but surely making their way back out, pushing like never before, wanting to be heard, expressed and felt. It's like they craved for attention, not just anyone's attention, but attention from a certain small teen powerhouse, Izuku Midoriya.

Katsuki had always thought of Midoriya as weak and helpless, which was why he was always going to be there to protect him or he had promised as children. A thought and promise that began deforming as the days went on.

Presenting his quirk had only fueled this need to keep the nerd safe from everything as he waited for him to also present his quirk, so that they could finally walk side by side.

When young Midoriya had failed to present his quirk at the age it was appropriate to do so, his idea of what his friend was began to shift again, morphing into something he no longer wanted, something that pulled him back and slowed him down. No longer was Midoriya just weak and helpless, but he was now deemed useless and quirkless.

Come high school, Katsuki's world was given a forceful shake, as it rumbled him to his very core. Seeing the nerd he so forcefully tried to push out of his life just sitting there in the same hero course as him clicked something inside of Bakugo.

'This kid's quirkless...why is he here?', he thought on their first day of school.

Later on, when he discovered that the shitty nerd had a quirk, he couldn't help but feel betrayed.

'He hid it all along...why did he never tell me about it?' he asked himself, shocked as Midoriya threw the baseball farther than him.

What a wakeup call he had that day, though he decided to slightly ignore it, not used to feeling guilt. He was angry at the boy and his betrayal but couldn't seem to blame him enough as memories of their past clouded his mind.

They were memories of him screaming at the boy, pushing him down the stairs at school, laughing at him in class for being quirkless, slamming him against the school lockers. All for what? All for who?

He wanted to seem stronger than the rest, he needed to show everyone that he was the strongest, he would surpass All Might and protect them all, yes, including the shitty nerd.

He wanted to be admired by all, but at what price? He had given up what was once the best thing to have ever happened to him, his best friend. So, he decided to keep ignoring it. He had paid his price, and in this world, there were no refunds, or so he thought.

Unbeknownst to him, young Midoriya wasn't just ready to let him go, he would be the one to hold on to that small thin shred of what was left of their friendship.

He'd be the one to pull them back together, but not with a little help from the one he was pulling. It's kind of hard to pull someone towards you if they keep walking away. Bakugo needed to turn around, needed to make his way back, hold onto his best friend, and together they'd be able to walk forward again.

So, as he sat there, now listening to his friend going over the plan, he could feel his eyes start to look for that mop of messy green hair he had come to know so well.

Setting his sight on the boy, he couldn't help but think about why his heart would beat faster whenever the icyhot bastard would be close to Midoriya.

Now that he knew that the prick had feelings for the boy, he couldn't just sit there and idly watch as he was swept away from him.

'Wait...what the actual fuck am I thinking!' he internally screamed at himself.

He wanted to scream, to run and blow something up. Ripping his gaze away from the green-eyed boy, he faced the chalkboard where he was met with his sensei's all-knowing intense glare which quickly had him settling down.

Heaving a deep sigh, Bakugo decided it best not to dwell on these things in school, 'especially with the nerd so close-by.' he'd think, turning his full attention to his red-haired friend.

'I'll figure this out at home, it's not like I'm running out of time or something...' the blonde decided.

"Dude, are you alright?" he asked with a worried tone in his voice and face, "You've been sighing for the past two hours." Kirishima was concerned.

Being the considerate friend he was, Kirishima had decided not to mention Midoriya, but could clearly see his friend's distress, so, not passing up a manly opportunity to comfort a person in need, he felt obliged to ask what troubled him.

"Do you maybe wanna talk about it?" He knew he was pushing his luck, he'd most likely get blown through the wall behind them if he kept this up, but he was willing, as long as his friend was alright.

Sighing once more, pushing all thoughts aside, "Let's just get this over with. I'm starting to get a headache." Was all the blond was going to give him.

Deciding it best to stop his prying, they continued working and devising a plan for tomorrow.

Come afternoon, the bell rang, signaling the end of another long school day. As they all began packing their things, Bakugo couldn't help but look at Midoriya.

"Should I ask him to walk home together? Maybe I could clear some of this up..." he quietly mumbled to himself.

Though one small little girl close by heard him speaking. Looking in the direction of his stare, her eyes came upon Midoriya.

"Kero?" she questioned, eyes widening as she observed the two teens.

"Tsu! Let's go!" she was told by Uraraka as she tugged on the girl's backpack, pulling her out of homeroom.

Making his way towards the front, nervous as never before, because Katsuki Bakugo wasn't one to get nervous, he waited as Midoriya slowly packed his things.

Bakugo was unaware of the presence that confidently entered their homeroom and made its way towards the windows next to Midoriya's desk on the other end of the room. All he heard was "Midoriya, would it be alright if I walked you home today?"

"Huh? Todoroki! Where have you been!" said Midoriya, surprise held in every word, amusement making its way into his body as suddenly some deep desire overtook him and made him stand up and hug his friend.

'BOOM!' Was all they heard as an overly explosive angry blond exited their homeroom, leaving a few desks scattered around.

Letting go of Todoroki, unaware of how flustered the boy was, Midoriya had just registered the noise when he was asked again.

"Would you like to walk home together?" Todoroki stared expectantly at Izuku, waiting for an answer.

"Huh? But you live on the other side of town, don't you?" he questioned his friend, unsure of what to say, as they made their way out of school.

"It's alright, I can call someone to pick me up after dropping you off." He wanted to say that he wanted to spend the afternoon with the boy, but that would be asking too much at the moment.

"Mm, well, if it's alright with you, I don't mind. I'd love the company, this way I can catch you up on what I've come up with for tomorrow's practical session." Said the lively Midoriya.

'BOOM!' and another 'BOOM!' could be heard off in the distance as a trail of smoke and disaster could be seen following the noise.

Paying the distraction no mind, Todoroki grabbed Midoriya's hand and pulled him along.

"Come on, or you'll be late for your training with All Might tonight." He said hurrying out of school grounds.

'Huh?' was all he thought as he felt a tingling warmth crawling its way up his arm from where Todoroki had intertwined his lithe and long fingers with his smaller calloused ones.

'Friends hold hands, right?' he reassured himself as they made their way to the smaller boy's home, a deep blush flooding his cheeks.

Hearing on last 'BOOM!' and a honking car, something forced its way into his mind, 'Kacchan must be really angry today, I'll ask him tomorrow...'
