Chapter 22 - Ground Zero

They could all feel the excitement that the situation was producing, it wasn't the kind that made you happy and anxious for it, but more like the kind that made your heart pump faster in fear.

On their way out of the park, they decided that Aoyama, Ojiro, Shoji and Mineta would stay at the Bakugo residence to keep watch. They were to alert the pro heroes should anything happen to the group on their way to rescue Midoriya.

Though they wanted to tell the pros, they had decided that tracking them down and updating them on the situation would only be time consuming and counterproductive to their plans. Midoriya needed to be saved now.

If you asked anyone on the subway, the quiet group of kids seemed to be up to no good, what with their serious demeanor and all. No one wanted to speak, they new the plan, the rest would have to play itself out.

A few stations later, they were getting off the subway and walking out into downtown Musutafu. The cold winter air contrasting the warmth they felt in the subway put them on alert as the followed after Tokoyami through the streets.

Their objective was only a few blocks away from the subway station. They quickly made their way through the once crowded city streets, keeping a low profile, pulling farther away from the brighter part of the city.

Shops and buildings as tall as skyscrapers could be seen decorating the area, most of them shielding what little light the moon gave off. The darkness only serving to hide their faces. They were from a school that was recognized nationwide, if word got out of what they were doing, they'd have hell to pay.

Tokoyami gave the signal, alerting the group that they had arrived. As planned, they made their way around the building towards the warehouse in the back.

As they passed Endeavor's training complex, the group was met with a barb wired wall that seemed to be ten feet tall. They searched for a way in, until they came upon black double doors big enough to fit a semi through them.

No one seemed to be nearby, they had expected at least a couple of guards, considering they were holding someone captive.

As they looked for a way past the doors, Katsuki noticed a small beeping box with a red led light on the wall. "We need some sort of key card." He told the group, sighing. Frustrated their plan was already failing.

"My time to shine." Said Kaminari, popping his knuckles. He went up the box and sent a short current into the system. The red light turned green and the doors were opening. "Violà!" he said taking a step back.

"Nice." Praised Mina. "Alright, Koda, Hagakure, you're up." She said to the pair.

Koda hadn't wasted any time. Before he was even spoken to, he had sent some pigeons out to scout the area and distract any potential guards.

Hagakure was in charge of mapping out the area and identifying any potential threats. Ridding herself of all her clothing, she was now completely invisible and left without a word, not wasting any time.

"Did she leave?" asked a confused Iida. They took her silence as a confirmation.

The minutes that passed in her absence dragged on for what felt like forever, they felt like they would be caught at any moment, though they were thankful for the protection the night offered.

Hagakure's return scared them since they were only able to hear her quick steps as she neared them. "Sorry I took so long." She apologized, startling a few.

"From what I saw, it's the only building inside and it's right in the middle of the area. The warehouse door seems to be completely solid and has no electrical connections." She explained, trying to remember all she saw.

"The perimeter is surrounded by this wall," she said pointing at it, "and this seems to be the only visible entrance and exit. I couldn't find any cameras or guards." She finished, worried about that last part.

"Thank you Hagakure." Said the bubbly Uraraka as she handed back her clothing, "I know it must be really cold, get dressed."

"Isn't it weird how bad security is?" Asked Asui. Something in her felt wrong, it made her stomach tighten.

"Maybe they don't want to draw any unwanted attention." Answered Sero.

"We're wasting time, let's get moving." Whispered Bakugo as he walked in. Still worried about how easy this was turning out to be, one by one they followed after the blond, keeping an eye out in all directions.

The area was huge, and empty, except for the fortified building in the middle. When they reached the warehouse door, Bakugo gave it a soft knock. "Seems like concrete." He said, trying to think of a plan.

"I'll pulverize it." Said Kirishima excitedly as he began hardening.

"No!" Mina stopped him, "It'll make too much noise." She warned.

Confident in her abilities, she stood before the door and brought her arms and hands together to form a small opening at the tip of her fingers.

"Leave it to me." She said aiming at the door and began hosing the edges down with her acid.

"Mina sugoi!" Kirishima said impressed at his friends abilities. "I was right to add you to the Bakusquad."

"Thanks." She said giving him a wink. All her hard training was finally being put to good use.

Katsuki was angry at the stupid names Kirishima seemed to enjoy mixing with his family name, "I told you there is no such thing!" he told the boy giving him a smack over the head.

"Now how do we move it out of the way?" Uraraka asked, worried they had come to bump in the road.

"I guess it's my turn." Said a tall, muscular teen with short spiky hair known as Sato. He took out two chocolate bars and devoured them, giving him the strength of ten men. Soon he was lifting the door and pulling it away from the entrance.

"Here, let us help you." Said Shoji as he and Koda grabbed onto the sides. They slowly walked it over to the side of the building and quietly put it down.

"Thanks guys," Sato said. The door had been heavy; it seemed to be about 3 feet of solid concrete, not to mention it was about 7 feet tall.

Katsuki was anxious to get inside, he needed to reach Deku, it was the only thing keeping him sane. The nerd was waiting for him, he couldn't let him down.

The cool winter night only seemed to make them all the more warry as a cold breeze could be heard whispering around them. Something about this was all wrong, it was too quiet, too easy.

Asui was sure they were walking into something big, "I really think we should rethink this, something's not right." She said to the group, following her gut, though it seemed no one was listening.

"Jiro, I need you to listen into anything that might be down past this door." Bakugo ordered the girl with headphone jack earlobes.

Jiro leaned into the wall and placed one of her headphone jacks into it. "It seems like there are two guards talking at the end of corridor, other than that, nothing." She said standing back up.

The moon's light barely shone through the entrance; the rest of the passage was pitch black. They needed to get through though. That's when Jiro came up with an idea.

"Momo babe, would you mind making some night vision glasses and leading the way?" Jiro asked her girlfriend.

"Of course!" She said as she produced the item out of her chest. "Everyone hold hands and stay quiet." She grabbed Jiro's hand and then the rest of the class did the same.

Placing the glasses on, she began leading group into the darkness ahead. Her eyes followed the long corridor and she saw what seemed to be a dead end. Holding onto her girlfriend's hand tighter, she was beginning to worry.

Why was everything so dark to begin with? Where were there only to guards in the whole area? Yaoyorozu had a very bad feeling about this now.

Suddenly, a loud rumbling had them holding tighter onto one another as the building began to shake.

"Don't let go!" yelled Iida as the vibrations worsened, dropping most of them to their knees. 'Must be an earthquake.' He thought, and boy was he wrong.

The walls around them began to withdraw into the floor and were rapidly replaced with thick steel bars that shot out of the ground, burying themselves into ceiling. Everyone was on their knees now, confused and terrified of what was happening.

A blinding white light pierced the night, forcing them to look away as it pushed past the bars that surrounded them. Out of nowhere a deep voice was heard, "Surprised aren't you?" the voice asked.

'Fuck!' Thought the explosive blond, recognizing who the voice belonged to immediately. He'd be able to pick out the bastard's voice anywhere. He was pissed, they had been playing into the icyhot bastard's plan all along.

He aimed an arm at the bars that imprisoned them, steadying himself with the other, and tried activating his quirk to blast them away. Nothing, not even a spark was coming out. "What?" he said, fear struck him like ice cold water washing over him.

Most of the group was still trying to figure out what was going on, barely able to see thanks to the intense white light. Little by little as their eyes adjusted to the light, they were able to make out the details of their surroundings.

The warehouse had been a decoy, there was never one to begin with. It was a larger façade for the cage they were in now. What scared them all the most was that they weren't able to use their quirks.

Fear could be seen on all their faces, including one feisty blond. They had no way out, no way of defending themselves and no way of reaching Midoriya.

"It's not going to work." Spoke out Todoroki as he watched the blond trying to blow the cage apart. "But you've never been the brightest of the bunch, have you Bakugo?"

"Tch! I'll fucking kill you!" said the blond, kicking the bars as hard as he could. What could he do? 'Think Katsuki.' He told himself, trying to push past the fear.

They looked towards the source of the light, trying to keep Todoroki on sight, "I like to call this the quirk containment cage. My dad used to train me in it when I was little, forcing me to push past its limits to activate my quirks." He explained walking up to them.

"I see most of you are here." He stated as he walked around them. They weren't surprised to see him, but they were afraid, especially now that they were temporarily quirkless. "Still, you're all fucking useless in there." He said, disgust dripping off his words.

"YOU FUCKER! WHERE'S MIDORIYA?" the blond screamed at Todoroki, "I SWEAR I'M GOING TO SMASH YOUR FACE IN!"

He was growing desperate, he needed to save the boy from this monster and this fucking cage wasn't helping.

"That useless piece of trash wasn't even able to stay awake after 4 blows." Todoroki said, trying to rile the blond up.

"YOU BASTARD! LET ME OUT AND FIGHT ME!" Bakugo was on the verge of tears as he screamed, imagining what Midoriya had gone through. He was about to start another bout of cussing when he felt soft cold hands on his arm.

"Bakugo-chan, we need to remain calm if we want to rescue Midoriya-chan." Said Asui looking into his rage filled eyes. She was deeply moved at how affected the blond was, but she wouldn't let him compromise their mission with his emotions running wild.

"Tch!" he answered, knowing she was right. He was just so mad; he was breaking inside. His Deku was Kami knows where and in pain. He really couldn't just sit there and do nothing, but it was all they were capable of doing for now.

Todoroki just laughed at how responsive the blond was to his teasing, "That's right, pull on his leash." He kept pushing at the blond, "You don't want him to bite someone."

Bakugo sat there and took it. He'd do it for the boy, he'd do anything for Midoriya. He knew that now, it wasn't about him, but about Midoriya. "Asui..." he spoke out drawing the girls attention to him, "Thank you, you were right. This isn't about me."

Her feelings had reached the blond, she was sure of it. He was finally acting like a hero, he wanted to save others, but not to feed his own personal desires. "You can call me Tsu." She said giving him a small smile.

The sound of tires and an engine brought their attention to the semitruck behind them with what seemed to be a giant mechanical claw attached to the front.

"Load them in." Todoroki said to one of the guards, walking towards a smaller crate they hadn't noticed before. Taking one look back at his caged classmates, he pulled on the fabric covering the crate.

Bakugo stood there, a cold sweat covering him. He stared in shock not believing what he was looking at. He began shaking, his arms clenched as he balled his fist.

There in the box lay what seemed to be a lifeless Izuku; still as a rock, blood covering most of his body along with purple-bluish bruising around the face. His lacerations on his wrist showed how much he had struggled to break free.

"Like my new pet?" asked Todoroki, laughing at their petrified looks.

Katsuki was done waiting, he was going to blow, "Yaoyorozu..." he warned.

The girl immediately picked up on his intentions, "Everyone! Quickly, gather around me." She yelled at the group. "I need you guys to step on the edges as hard as possible." She ordered while shielding them with what seem to be a giant sheet of aluminum.

Katsuki stood there, images of the green-eyed boy flashing through his mind. 'One...' he thought, bringing his right arm towards his chest.

He could imagine them laying together, just staring at nothing, Midoriya's sweet laughter filling the room. 'Two...' he brought his other arm up like the other.

He was sweating like never before; it was dripping all around. He saw the way Izuku's eyes would shine when he told him how much he loved him. 'Three...' and he let go.

"GROUND ZERO!" he roared as his arms shot out and every part of his body began igniting, releasing an enormous amount of stored-up energy.

A noiseless flash was seen by those outside the cage as an intense pressure forced its way out of Bakugo's body. The air around them instantly ignited and slammed them all to the ground.

Todoroki hadn't expected the blond to go off like that, nor that he would be able to activate his quirk. 'Fuck!' he thought as the flames pushed him down and the air pressure dragged him across the area.

The teens inside of the cage were roughly pushed against the bars and one another. "DON'T LET GO!" screamed someone from within.

Though shielded from the scorching heat coming off of the blonde boy, they were still violently being pushed out of the cage.

The roof soon gave out and was blown apart releasing the bars, not that it was necessary, most had been melted away, leaving hot oozing liquid metal where they once stood.

Walking out of what was once their prison, he pushed through the smoke and took a step over the edge, "Give me Izuku." He demanded as his feet landed on the concrete, lifting one arm he ignited his hand.
