Chapter 10 - Scars

Alright yalls, this was a really hard chapter for me to write, it holds a deep meaning to me, I hope I was able to portray all that I wanted.

Warning: Mention of depression, anxiety and suicide.

Let's begin,

Come Friday morning, two very different teens, polar opposite teens you could say, went about their business, going through their typical morning routines as they commenced the day, getting ready for another day of school.

Studying himself in the mirror, little Izuku tried combing his usually wild green locks, to have them spring right back into place seconds after being temporarily tamed by the comb. Giving up, he finished putting on his tie, grabbed his things and left abandoned the room.

Rushing down the stairs, missing the last two steps, he found himself falling face first towards the floor, instincts getting the better of him, he rushed both hands up to try and break his fall, barely making it in time as his nose smashed into the cold wood floor.

"Ouch!" he screamed as he tried getting back up.

Dusting himself off, he went around the stairs and into the kitchen, hoping to find his mom there with breakfast. He was a tad bit disappointed she wasn't there but perked up as his eyes landed on a plate with a note laid next to it.

'Went out early to pay the bills and buy groceries. Left you breakfast Love, Mom'

Sliding the note into his pocket, he quickly ate the eggs and bacon his mother had left him. Making sure to wash his dishes, he then grabbed his things before making his way out of the house.

Across the street, things were going exactly how they did almost every day. You could say with to feisty blonds living under the same roof, things tended to get a rather 'explosive' from time to time, or so Masaru would have you think after so many years of marriage with one of those blonds.

Katsuki was pulling out of the shower as he reached for the towel that he had placed on the bathroom sink. Since he preferred long showers, the bathroom resembled a gas camera considering all the fog that creeped around everywhere.

Not being able to see, he wasn't able to find the towel he knew he had placed there. Walking out of the shower, not minding his own nakedness, he looked for the damn thing, water droplets falling from his body quickly reaching the floor.

"It's not here...damn hag." he said, knowing exactly where the missing object had wandered off to, or with it whom it had wandered off with.

"Haaaag! Why'd you take my towel!" he screamed as he cracked the bathroom door open a sliver, fog quickly crawling at the edges as it wound its way out.

"Calm your tits you shit! I'll get you another one!" yelled back Mitsuki, having accomplished her goal of pissing off her son. She loved to tease the brat any way she could.

"Masaru, could you take your son a towel." She asked her husband as she applied some mascara.

She was meeting up with Inko in town later, and she'd be damned if she looked like shit. She was naturally a beautiful woman.

'But nothing a little make-up can't highlight' she thought.

"Oh, so he's my son when he's angry and yours when you want to screw around with him?" teased back Masaru, making his way out of their bedroom, towel in hand.

Reaching he bathroom, he knocked and a tonified tan arm was seen reaching out through the small opening in the door. "Tch!" was all he got as he handed the boy the damn towel.

"It's too early for this..." He murmured to himself going downstairs for his portfolio. He gave it one quick look over and called out to his wife.

"Mitsu! We better get moving if we wanna miss the morning rush!" He really wanted to avoid traffic today.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm ready. Let's go." She said, making her way down the stairs. Grabbing her car keys, she pulled out her wallet and set some cash on the kitchen countertop.

"BRAT!" she yelled.

"What hag!" Katsuki screamed back at his mother.

"I left you some cash in the kitchen for breakfast! Don't spend it on stupid shit!" she said as she and her husband made their way out of the house.

"Tch!" was his answer as he got dressed and walked to his bedroom mirror, buttoning up the last two buttons on his school shirt.

Spiking up he ash golden locks, he deemed himself ok. Doing a once over around the room, making sure he wasn't forgetting anything, he then left his bedroom and walked out of the house.

Locking up after himself, he made his way up to the front gate only to be met with a green mop of messy hair across the street as the body attached to it exited his house.

Feeling a bit nervous, a small blush made its way onto his cheeks as memories of last night's dream flashed before his eyes.

Pushing those thoughts away, he took a closer look at the boy mere meters away, all his nervousness was washed away as the boy waved good morning at him.

'What's on his nose?' he thought, placing a questioning look on his face.

"Kacchan? Are you alright? What are you staring at?" he was questioned by the nerd.

"Tch!" he scoffed a little, recognizing what it was, "Your nose...it's bleeding." Was all he said before walking down the road and away from the boy.

'Dumb nerd, can't even wake up right.' He thought, as he reached the bus stop.

Looking down at his phone, the bus wouldn't be here for another 15 minutes, so, he went to the small shop down the street and bought an apple and a yoghurt.

'Wonder why he's bleeding though.' He thought as he arrived at the bus stop once again.

"I think it's cuz I fell down the stairs this morning Kacchan." Answered the green-haired boy standing right next to him, that damn smile Katsuki had come to know so well plastered on his face.

'Shit!' he thought, he had said that out loud and the nerd had heard him. 'Now he's gonna think I care'.

Groaning to himself, he looked at the boy and studied his face trying to make out any more signs of blood, not finding anything.

"Clumsy nerd." He teased before settling on eating his apple.

"Yeah, I tend to be like that." He said laughing a little nervous laugh as he placed his right hand behind his head.

'I get to ride the bus with Kacchan, it's been a while since we've gone to school together.' He thought, 'Usually he's not here so early.'

It wasn't as if they hadn't shared a bus to school before, the first few days were the most uncomfortable for both teens.

Katsuki not wanting to have anything to do with the nerd would sit towards the back and far away from him. Izuku not really ever knowing how to handle the situation would nervously sit towards the front and let anxiety take over him.

Yes, he'd been having anxiety issues when it concerned the other teen. Most of middle school was basically anxiety and depression for little Deku.

He'd eventually overcome the depression, having All Might and his ever-present mom to thank for that, and the anxiety got better as he saw the blond boy less over summer vacations before U.A. High.

During those torturous middle school years, he'd been on the brink of death on two occasions, and he would have died had not his mother found him before it was too late.

He had attempted twice on his own life. The first being three months after their first year of middle school had begun. He had been tormented day after day as to why his best friend had changed so much towards him that one day something in him just snapped.

Katsuki would explicitly bully him in front of everyone then, he'd even let the other boys bully him too, he'd never done such things before then. The bullying used to be something just between the two of them, Kacchan had never allowed someone else to treat him like so.

Being the innocent little boy that he was, he would always find a way to excuse Kacchan's behavior towards him, until one day he came to the conclusion that he was the cause of his best friend's anger.

Not wanting to be the one to bring his friend down, he'd gone home that afternoon after school and took one too many of his mom's sleeping pills in one go with the help of a little sake his mom had for special occasions.

Coming home to find her son laying on the floor, an empty pill container and a few pills littering the space around the boy, the sake she'd received as a Christmas gift from the Bakugos in his right hand, completely spilt, she put two and two together and began to panic.

Pullin herself together, she ran to her little boy's side and grabbed onto his neck where she placed two fingers under his chin as she frantically searched for a sign indicating he was still amongst the living.

Feeling what she could only interpret as the boy's pulse, Inko immediately called the police, and under five minutes, a knock on the door signaled their arrival as the paramedics walked into her home and carried her little boy away.

That day had scarred Inko. That day had scarred little Izuku, not physically, but emotionally. A small gash was building its way into his heart.

He'd been treated, his stomach being pumped clean as well as his entire system, the latter through an I.V. and his mother had insisted, rather adamantly, that he been seen by a professional. I mean, you would too if you had walked in on your little bean laying there nearly in a coma.

Much to Inko's distress, little Izuku denied any kind of help, brushing it off saying he would be alright, that it had been a stupid slip on his part and that it wouldn't happen again. Boy was he wrong.

The second time had scarred Inko even worse than before. She had been downstairs waiting for Izuku to finish his bath so that they could dine together. She called out to the boy many times telling him to hurry up, that his food would get cold if he took too long, all to which she received no answer.

Worriedly, she had made her way up to the bathroom to fetch her son. She had knocked on the door once, twice, three times and no answer.

Pushing the door open, she gasped at the sight she was met with: her little boy lay limp in the tub full to the brim with water, vivid red water, as his arms were draped over each side of the tub, scarlet red threads of life abandoning his body making their way down his arm, past his wrist and hands as they fell puddling underneath his fingers.

Once again, Inko ran as quick as her short legs would allow her as she looked for her phone and called the police.

Running back up to her little Izuku, she sat there by his side, pressing towels onto the long vertical gashes on his arms trying to stop the bleeding, as her face was flooded with a cascade of tears.

"Hold on baby, hold on..." she'd say as she waited for help.

For a second time her little Izu was taken away by the men in the ambulance. She would occasionally squeeze his cold shoulder with one hand as she cried into the other, sirens blaring into the city streets as they made their way to the hospital.

He had been hospitalized for two weeks that time, for his own safety they would say, they were afraid he might try a third time.

All he wanted was to disappear, to make Kacchan's life easier. He had figured out in his messed up teenage mind that if he truly considered himself Kacchan's best friend, that he would want the boy to succeed at being a hero, and to succeed, he had to eliminate what was keeping him back, what was making him weak, what slowed him down: Izuku.

So, disappearing seemed like the most logical idea to little Izuku. What better way of never showing up again was there?

'If I'm was never there to wake up anymore, then I'll definitely help Kacchan out.' was what he thought as he dragged the sharp cardboard cutter blades down both arms.

He felt it, he was happy knowing that his best friend would finally be free of any burdens, that his best friend would finally be able to become the best without anything or anyone holding him back.

He felt it, as he felt his vision going blurry, becoming darker by the second. He felt it, as his fingers would no longer curl on command. He felt it, as the warm shiny red liquid trickled down his arm. He felt it, as his breathing no longer filled his lungs. He felt it, as the warm water enveloped his body as it sank into the tub. He felt it, as his rapid beating heart gave out. He felt it, as he imagined his best friend's smile. He felt it, until he no longer felt anything.

Again, that day had scarred little Izuku. This time, not only emotionally but physically too. Another scar was added right next to the one in his heart, as they melded together, forming a wall of hardened tissue around it as if meant to protect it.

Later, two more scars would be added onto his arms, letting the world know he had been in pain, letting the world know he wasn't ok.

After some professional help, courtesy of his mother's wishes, he had gotten better, and a lot faster than anyone had expected. It seemed the summer had brightened up the boy's spirits and they couldn't be happier at his progress.

Come around the time All Might had shown up in his life one random summer's day, life for this future hero couldn't have gotten any better.

He'd been offered the opportunity to become a hero, his dream was coming true. He'd been offered the opportunity to stand by Kacchan's side as his equal, he would no longer be a hindrance, a stone holding him back, he'd be a hero.

He'd taken All Might's words to heart as he was offered such a glorious gift. He worked day and night, hour after agonizing hour to better himself and his body as he prepared for the gift. He focused all his pain, all his emotions and thoughts to push through his intense training.

He'd become a hero, a hero that could save all, and he'd do it with a smile. No longer wanting to feel depressed, he pushed and pushed with renewed determination each and every day.

So, when the time came to receive One for All from All Might, he was ready. Ready to tackle the entrance exams to U.A. High and to keep his promise to Kacchan, they'd be together forever, he'd make sure of it.

"Nerd, get on the fucking bus." He heard, breaking him out of his daze.

"Huh? Oh, right!" he answered, getting up to follow the blond onto the bus.

As both teens made their way past the drive, Izuku was uncertain of where he would take a seat. Lifting his eyes, he was met with those of the usually pissed off blond.

"Come on Deku, I don't have all day." He said, standing in the middle of the bus next to some seats, as he nodded his head signaling the window seat. "Sit down already."

Shock covered his features for a second until he pushed it aside and hurried off to sit down, happy that Kacchan had offered they sit together.

As he took his seat by the window, he felt the older blond's body grazing his as the boy also took his seat. Blushing like mad, he decided on staring out the window until he's cheeks learned to cooperate with him.

Little Izuku could make out the sun as it crawled its way into the distant sky, shining over the once dark city, illuminating everything and everyone in its wake. Every little detail started decorating Izuku's vision, as the light seemed to paint the city in all its colors.

He could see a few squirrels peek their way out of a few trees to greet the morning sky. Amazed by the way life seemed to take over the once quiet city, he couldn't help but stare.

"It's so beautiful, Kacchan..." he whispered, sparkles in his eyes.

"Yeah, you really are ... " replied the blond, never once taking his eyes off the unaware boy, never once looking out the window, not even realizing what he was saying.
