IV. OTHER FORMS OF PUNISHMENT.

2. Octavia Blake: her actions as Blodreina & Skairipa (ordered by Bellamy)

B. SHOCK LASHINGS.

1. Abby Griffin: providing guns to the delinquents

C. TORTURE.

1. Lincoln: poisoning Finn, tortured for information (by Clarke Griffin, Bellamy Blake, and Raven Reyes)

2. Delano: tortured for information about the rest of the delinquents' whereabouts, then killed by Finn (interrogated by Bellamy and Murphy, tortured by Finn)

D. EXECUTION.

1. Lincoln: participating in a coup to usurp Chancellor Pike, giving himself up (by Chancellor Pike)

2. Delano: withholding information on the delinquents' whereabouts (by Finn)

V. GROUNDERS' PUNISHMENTS.

A. DEATH BY A THOUSAND CUTS

This is a form of capital punishment where every single member of the clan takes a turn cutting the convicted person before feeding them to bugs. For more serious crimes (like Finn's), they start with fire and take the hands, tongue, and eyes. Everyone gets a turn with the blade before the Commander ends it with their sword if the person is still alive. In other cases, the number of cuts correlates with the number of deaths the person is charged.

1. Lincoln: Treason – Octavia (rescued by Octavia, traded for Nyko)

2. Finn Collins: massacre of 18 villagers in TonDC (mercy-killed by Clarke)

3. Raven Reyes: attempted assassination of the Commander – poisoning (saved by proof of innocence)

4. Gustus: treason – attempting to foil the alliance between Trikru and the Sky People (executed by Lexa)

5. Carl Emerson: caused the deaths of 49 Sky People in the destruction of Mount Weather– death by 49 cuts or banishment (banished by Clarke)

B. IMPRISONMENT.

The Grounders have their own holding cell for prisoners. After Jaha was sold to a bounty hunter, he was delivered to the Commander and imprisoned in an underground subway station. Kane was apprehended and placed into the same room.

1. John Murphy: prisoner of war (released to infect the delinquents with biological warfare)

2. Thelonious Jaha: prisoner of war (released by Lexa)

3. Marcus Kane: prisoner of war (released by Lexa)

4. Roan: prisoner of war (crowned king of Ice Nation)

5. Clarke Griffin: prisoner of war (made ambassador of the Sky People)

6. John Murphy: prisoner of war (escaped with Pike and Indra)

7. Indra: refused to take the City of Light Chip (escaped with Pike and Murphy)

8. Charles Pike: refused to take the City of Light Chip (escaped with Murphy and Indra)

C. BANISHMENT.

There are Grounders who have no clan because they or a family member are viewed as a "stain on the bloodline" due to birth defects. They can also be banned for committing certain crimes such as theft or cheating.

1. Delano: theft (banished with other outcasts)

2. Zoran: deformed face (wandering around the Dead Zone with his parents in search of the City of Light) (fun fact! he was played by Finn Wolfhard)

3. Emori: deformed hand (bandit with her brother, Otan, in the Dead Zone)

4. Octavia Blake: refusing to leave when the Commander sounded retreat (disavowed by Indra)

5. Lincoln: traitor & refusing to leave when the Commander sounded retreat (imprisoned by Lexa, escaped, and had a kill order placed on him)

6. Roan: banned by Lexa to allow the Ice Nation to join the Coalition (brought Wanheda to Lexa to get it revoked but was locked up instead)

7. Carl Emerson: caused the deaths of 49 Sky People in the destruction of Mount Weather (banished by Clarke)

8. Echo: trying to cheat during the final Conclave (banished by Roan)

D. TORTURE.

1. John Murphy: tortured for three days for information on the delinquents, which he ultimately provided. Later, he ran away after hanging Bellamy and was captured by Grounders again, tortured this time by Tristan and Anya. In season three, he was captured yet again after stealing from Lexa's forest and was tortured by Titus for information.

2. Costia: Lexa mentions that the Ice Nation tortured her for information before beheading her.

E. KILL ORDER.

The Commander can place a kill order on someone's head and only they can remove it.

1. Lincoln: disobeying the Commander by going to help Octavia fight Mount Weather – thereby violating the terms of the truce between the Coalition and the mountain and leaving him basically imprisoned at Arkadia (by Lexa).
