The first thing you must do is READ SCI- FI BOOKS! Whether its on here or in real life- please read around. See how others write SciFi, see the different sub- genres that SciFi encompasses.

I promise you that if you start writing blindly, without any knowledge of how SciFi is written, you won't be able to write a credible book because you will draw on writing knowledge from other genres. If you want to write an epic war/alien outer space thing and all you've ever known in romance, you'll end up writing a romance book because that's all you'll feel comfortable doing.

When I started writing my SciFi book, I had very little experience with that genre. So I started writing crap, it wasn't well thought out and it didn't resemble any genre because I had mixed all my knowledge from other genres into something that was supposed to be Sci Fi.

So please check out some of the popular SciFi books this site has to offer, see how its written and try to pick up some tips.
