Gayle Moran on Points of View in Writing
Passionate about writing, Gayle has worked in a variety of writing and communications fields in her career, including marketing, executive, corporate, and technical communications. She has taught college English and has published short stories and poetry. In the next few chapters we look at what Gale has to teach us about Points of View in Writing.
------
Point of view deals with who tells the story and how it gets told. To determine the point of view of a story, we ask three questions:
- Who tells the story?
- How much is s/he allowed to know?
- To what extent does the author look inside his characters and report their thoughts and feelings?
here are four basic points of view:
-Omniscient
-Limited omniscient
-First person
-Objective
In the next chapter we look briefly at each one.
