Everything Steamy

Requested by: that_damdemigxd

WARNING: This chapter discusses mature themes. Do not read if you are not comfortable or very young. I don't want any parents yelling at me.

This is gonna be a long one because I want to get it over with and hopefully not have to cover all of this smutty stuff again lol.

MAKEOUTS

A breeding ground for cliches. Such as, 'tongue wars' in which the girl tries oh so hard but the guy always wins. Or in which the girls tries to keep her mouth closed so the guy grabs her somewhere and she gasps and opens her mouth.

Stop it. Don't do it. Whenever I read something like that I get upset because you can find it in nearly every fanfiction out there. No joke. If you're having trouble, do some research. Yes it can be awkward googling how to write that stuff, but it comes with the territory so you should just cut your loses. That's what clearing your search history is for. Especially if it means that your writing will improve.

Think about why they're making out. Frustration? Love? Intoxication? Lust? Work it in, write it. Show the readers how the MC and their S/O feel.

CLOTHING

While I am entirely aware that there are some women out there who are more comfortable wearing lingerie all the time instead of your average cotton underwear, it's not for every woman. It's very rare that a girl will be wearing a lacy black bra and matching underwear from Victoria's Secret on your average day. Especially when coordinating your bra and underwear is so tedious when you aren't planning anything special.

Something planned is a different idea. If it's a Valentine's Day date or a surprise or so on, so forth, then it's different because of course a girl is more likely to wear something like that on that day. Just remember to think realistically in situations like this.

SMUT

The big one. The one that's gonna take a lot of explaining. Truth be told, I may not have published any yet but I have written smut. Yes, I know. And through my rewriting of stories I plan on adding some in.

Research

I can not stress how important research is. I know how awkward it is, even if you're by yourself, trust me, but it's necessary. To write it well, especially if you aren't experienced, then you need to research to learn. Don't be afraid to look up the questions you need answered, don't limit yourself to your knowledge, search for more.

Experience

Think of how experienced your character is. Someone with zero experience is going to be completely different to write for compared to someone with lots of experience. Their reactions and overall smut scene is going to be crazy different, don't make them the same.

Mood

Mood will highly affect your characters as well. Why are they doing the do? Are they in love? Is it a one night stand? Are they drunk? Is it a goodbye? Awkward first time? All of these will be different. Don't just write smut. Write the experience. No time having sex is going to be the same as the next.

Resolution

How does it end? I don't mean how does the smut end, I mean how does the scene end? With cuddles? Jokes? A conversation? An argument? This can also affect the mood as explained above, even if it's after. This also opens up story opportunities after said smut scene.

Pace Yourself

Don't feel the need to crank the smut out, or take years making it perfect, because that's not what sex is. Write as fast or slow as you're comfortable. Create a story/setting/theme before the actual deed before you get into it.

The Senses

Use all the senses. Remember, show not tell. It's so important to do so. Engage your reader, smut can be as important as the big fight at the end of the book. Think about the characters feelings/senses as well. If they're mad they're going to be rough to get out their anger, if they're sad they're going to be gentle, so on.

Experiment

Don't feel weird experimenting with your writing style. Want to write vanilla? Write vanilla. Want to write BDSM? Write BDSM. Just be sure you're representing the style correctly. Which goes back to research.

Consent

Woo this is a topic I really need to touch on. It's something we not only need to work on in real life, but in fanfiction as well. Consent is SO IMPORTANT and it's often brushed aside in smut scenes. The girl will so "Stop" or "No" and the male will do something to make her quiet or trail off, and ignore it. Make your characters talk before, come up with a word. If Waffles is your characters' stop, make it known. Show that technical consent isn't the gold standard it's the most bare, basic foundation, and anything less than both parties being completely enthusiastic is a sign to stop and talk.

REMEMBER the males consent matter too. Too many times do we brush aside a males hesitation and call him something less than a true man. Their opinion, their choice, matters just as much as the female's.

Underage

An issue that shouldn't be an issue. There are two different kinds of underage. There's an adult in a smut scene with a minor, and there's both characters being underage. DONT DO IT. It encourages something you should NEVER encourage. Look up the age of consent in the country/state it takes place in, keep in mind how old your characters are. Don't make them do something illegal. DONT. When it comes to adult/minor it's different if a character is 19 and another is 17, or 18 and 17. There are laws protecting relationships like that because the characters are so close in age, that's okay. What's NOT okay is pedophilia. In no world is a grown man in a smut scene with a child okay. Acknowledging it as pedophilia, as assault, as illegal, and as mentally scarring for said child, is only okay if it's part of a background story. Even then, leave a warning because it can be triggering for some.

Be Fearless

Don't be afraid to write it. And don't let your characters be bound by the hesitation you may feel. As a writer you need to come to your own terms of what you are or aren't willing to do. Don't pressure yourself to do something you don't want to do. Learn your boundaries. Try writing different things, experiment, and learn what you want to write and what you don't want to.

Be Accurate

This isn't just research. Porn often gets so many things wrong in a reach for entertainment. Don't do that. Be truthful. Tell all of it. The pain, the awkwardness, the fun, the pleasure. All of it. Learning sex from porn, watching or reading, is like learning to drive from Fast and the Furious when it's not done properly.

Writing smut/steamy scenes doesn't doom you to hell or make you a bad person. It really truly doesn't. People don't realize that reading and writing smut is a really healthy way to explore your sexuality without going out and trying things that may be dangerous in real life. If the smut represents sex properly, it can be a better education that health class can be.

Request are open and so is asking questions!
