Authors Notes

I'm gonna be hypocritical because I've done what I'm telling you not to do. But I'm gonna fix it while revising my stories so don't attack me!
Ahh authors notes, the best way to convey a message to your followers. There are many different ways to do/post an authors note, and today we'll be going over those ways and the best situations to use them.
Before: By before I mean before your chapter. I do these a lot in Mutant and Proud, Alien, and Gods and Monsters. These are usually on the shorter side, with a quick note about the chapter, or easy to understand statement. Avoid putting large paragraphs of authors notes before. The reader will get bored and skip past it.
After: Very similar to before, although the reader is even less likely to read it here because they've finished the chapter and simply want to move on to the next one. I would recommend doing Before more than after, unless that messes up your story format.
During: DONT. Unless there's a VERY STRANGE, VERY IMPORTANT, VERY RARE circumstance, then don't put one in the middle of your chapter. It takes the reader out of their immersion, is confusing, and can easily annoy your readers. They don't want your personal thoughts/message during the chapter. Give it before or after.
Separate Chapter: You should only post a separate chapter for an authors note if it's a really long one, or if it's big enough to deserve it's own chapter. This can range from an explanation on the entire storyline, to announcing a new story. If it's super short, fit it into the story somewhere. it won't kill you.
Request are open and so is asking questions!
