There are millions of stories on Wattpad with thousands more being uploaded every day. That means you'll never run out of something to read, but it also means finding the exact kind of story you want can be somewhat difficult.

If you have friends with Wattpad accounts, you can definitely ask them what they're reading. But here are a few other methods that can help you in discovering your next read:

(1) Where to find stories: The Wattpad Home Page
The Home Page (the Home icon on the apps or Wattpad.com on the web) is full of suggestions compiled by Wattpad just for you.

Some will be based on stories you've read in the past, reading lists of people you're following, stories they're writing, trending story tags, authors who are gaining in popularity, and more. Take the time to look through them, as almost all of them will have some connection to your reading habits.

When you look at the stories presented to you, Wattpad does it's best to adjust your preferences with the help of algorithms. However, you can adjust some of the factors yourself. You can see how here:

(2) Where to find stories: The Tag Category Lists  + Search function
If you visit the categories in the Browse section on the web, or click search icon, you'll be presented with different lists of stories to browse through

Some of the lists are compiled of a specific genre. Other tags are used by Wattpad authors to identify the sub-genres of their stories and different topics contained in their storylines. When you search for stories using tags, you can narrow down the selection of stories quite a bit, which will hopefully help you find the stories you're interested in.

You can search for stories using tags in the search function at the top of the screen on the website, or by touching the magnifying glass icon on the app homepage. To start the search using tags, type the crosshatch(#) symbol and then a keyword. Remember that tags have to be one word. No spacing or uppercasing.

For example
If you're looking for stories akin to The Hunger Games, you could start with the tags:
#dystopian, future, #teenfiction, and #action

The more tags you add, the fewer stories you'll be presented with, which should make it easier to browse through the list. If you want to know more, you can find a full guide on how to search here:

🔗How to search on Wattpad?

You may come across lists called Wattpad Picks. Stories that are labelled as such are some of the best on Wattpad. Each one is hand-chosen by Wattpad staff and you'll find a wide variety of stories included on each genre list. You can expect these stories to be completed, or if they aren't, Wattpad has ensured the author will complete them. You can read more about the topic 🔗HERE.

(3) Where to find stories: In a story you're reading or have already read
Wattpad will recommend stories at the end of the chapters of a story you're reading. Those stories may be written by the author or someone the author follows. The author may have added these stories to one of their reading lists, or they may be similar to the story you're reading. All of them will have a close connection to the story you're already enjoying, so be sure to check them out.

Furthermore, If you're enjoying a story, chances are the author will have written other stories you'll also enjoy. Visit their profile to check out their other works. You can find it easily right from the chapter you're reading. On the website, a link to the author's profile will be on the left side of the screen, where you see their avatar. On the app, tap the three dots and lines icon to bring up the table of contents, then touch the author's name. While you're visiting the author's profile, look through their reading lists. Odds are they're reading stories similar to the ones they write.

(4) Where to find stories: Wattpad Ambassadors' Reading Lists
Wattpad has a myriad of official profiles dedicated to a specific genre (and even languages!). These profiles contain reading lists packed with stories curated by the Wattpad Ambassadors to highlight and reflect some of the best content in that genre.

Similar to the official profiles, several communities have created community profiles for their subgenres and are constantly searching for good stories, compiling them into themed reading lists. Search for a theme, and you will definitely find a profile that caters to your tastes!

What to do once you find a story?
Once you have found a great story, it's time to start reading! Be sure to show that author some love by voting for their chapters and letting them know with a comment.

Wattpad authors are regular people like you who write and share their stories for free. For the vast majority of them, votes and comments are the only 'payment' they get for the hard work they've put into them.

The more support you give to a great story, the more likely the author will finish it if they haven't already, and the more likely other Wattpaders who are looking for a good read will find it!
