Chapter 6

The next morning, three viking longships arrived at a large cloud of fog that supposedly hid the dragon's nest from the outside world. Aboard these ships were the adult vikings from Miraculous that joined Gabriel on his search for the hidden nest.

"I can almost smell them," Gabriel softly proclaimed as he stared down at the dagger-plunged map as it layed on a table at the front of the ship. The chief then placed his fist onto the middle of it before he looked up from it and averted his gaze at the fog.

"They're close. Steady," the chief commanded as the ships got closer to the massive cloud of fog, staying along the edge of it while every viking stared at the fog in anticipation. Not wanting to wait another moment, Gabriel gave his orders.

"Take us in," Gabriel told the helmsman at the back of the boat, who followed the order almost immediately.

"Hard to port!" The helmsman exclaimed as he pushed the handle of the rudder forward, turning the boat to head into the fog

"For Helheim's Gate," Gabriel announced as he walked up to the front of the ship, while the other two boats shouted out 'Hard to port!' as they followed suit, and went into the fog on either side of the leading boat. As they entered the thick fog, it was eerily quiet for a few seconds as nothing happened. But then a screech from out of nowhere, carried out through the fog before the outline of a dragon came into view of anyone who was still out of the fog. The vikings... were in trouble.

Meanwhile on Miraculous, the teens were back in the arena; which was now in a maze setup, as they faced the new dragon of the day. But while everyone was focused on the lesson, Adrien was trying to get more information about the Chat Noir Fury from Gorilla and Nathalie. Knowing that since the book didn't have much information on that particular dragon after his late night reading, Adrien knew he couldn't find out more from Alya, Nino or Max. So deciding to go with the next best thing, Adrien stopped running from the dragon hunting the student in the maze, and tried to talk to Gorilla and Nathalie. Unfortunately for Adrien, the instructors in question were leaning against the cage-like dome that covered the top of the arena, watching the students work through the lesson of the day.

"Hey, you know, I just happened to notice that the book had nothing on Chat Noir Furies," Adrien began as he held onto his axe and shield, pestering the instructors with his queries.

"Is there like another book or a sequel? Maybe a little Chat Noir Fury pamphlet?" Adrien asked right before a blast of fire came hurtling toward him, but thankfully just hit his axe. Unfortunately, the fire was so hot that it took the blade of his axe clean off of the handle.

"Woah!" Adrien exclaimed as he frantically looked around for the source of where the fire came from.

"Focus, Adrien!" Nathalie shouted, just as the boy found out where the fire came from, causing his eyes to widen at the dragon of the day.

"You're not even trying!" Gorilla ranted as the Multimouse Nadder jumped down from its spot on top of one of the maze walls, and ran towards him. Immediately, Adrien started to run away from the dragon.

"Today is all about ATTACK!" the blacksmith exclaimed before Adrien quickly went to his right and continued to run down the path. As he did, the Nadder jumped up onto the top of the temporary wall and roared at Adrien before moving onto the next wall to follow him.

"Multimouse Nadders are quick and light on their feet," Nathalie explained as the dragon moved to another part of the maze wall, abandoning its chase on Adrien to focus on the other students.

"Your job is to be quicker and lighter!" The weapons specialist instructed as the dragon came face to face with Nino and Max, who were surprised by the dragon as it towers over them. The dragon then raised its tail, unfurling its tail spines before whipping its tail at the two boys, shooting the black spikes at them. But thankfully, as they screamed in a panic, the two cousins raised their shields to protect themselves.

"I'm really beginning to question your teaching methods!" Nino shouted at Gorilla and Nathalie as he and Max ran away from the dragon. As he did, Nino accidentally stuck his shield into one of the maze walls, before he pulled it out and continued running with his cousin.

"Look for its blindspot!" Gorilla suggested, uninterested in Nino's panicking.

"Every dragon has one," Nathalie explained while Adrien ran past Luka and Juleka, as they ran through the path on his right.

"Find it, hide in it and strike!" The weapons specialist finished as the twins made a left turn and ended up right in front of the Multimouse Nadder's blindspot; which is in the front of its nose. As soon as the two twins see the dragon, they immediately halt their running, and stand still in front of the dragon's blindspot. But as they breathe heavily in panic, Juleka suddenly caught a whiff of a horrible smell, before realising that it is coming from Luka, who was standing in front of her while leaning away from the dragon as it caught the scent as well.

"Ohh! Lu, when was the last time you bathed?" Juleka quietly whined as the dragon moved its head to find the source of the smell. In response, the twins moved in the same direction as the dragon's head, trying to stay in its blind spot. After the dragon moved its head for the second time, Juleka pushed her shield into Luka's back to relieve herself of his horrible stench.

"I've been busy, okay? If you don't like it just get your own blindspot!" Luka quietly exclaimed as he continued facing the Nadder, and elbowed Juleka''s shield off of his back. But this caused Juleka to step from behind him and move to his right to use her shield to push him back. All the while, their roughhousing caused them to move out of the dragon's blindspot, revealing themselves to the dragon.

"How about I give you one?" Juleka challanged as she head-butted Luka, pushing his head back before he responded with a head butt of his own. But when the dragon growled, their attention was pulled away from their fight and back to the Multimouse Nadder as it blasted at them, giving the twins seconds to get out of the way.

"Blindspot, yes. Deaf spot, not so much," Gorilla taunted as he and Nathalie continued to watch the students in boredom, chuckling at his own joke. Below the instructor's viewpoint, Adrien, Marinette, Alya and Kim ran past them, which gave Adrien another chance to interrogate them.

"Hey, hey. So, how would one sneak up on a Chat Noir Fury?" Adrien asked, drawing Gorilla and Nathalie's attention away from their overview, and back at the curious Adrien.

"No one's ever met one and lived to tell the tale," Nathalie answered, exasperated with Adrien's endless questions while Gorilla placed his right hand on his forehead to stop an oncoming headache.

"NOW GET IN THERE!" Gorilla shouted, trying to get Adrien to focus on the lesson. In response Adrien backed away from them, yet still tried to get some answers.

"I know, I know, but hypothetically..." Adrien began as he continued to backtrack away.

"Adrien!" A voice to his right quietly shouted out at him. He turned to face where the voice had come from, only to see Marinette, Alya and Kim crouched next to the wall behind him.

"Get down," Marinette whispered to him while using her shield to add emphasis to her point. Adrien quickly listened and crouched down behind Kim just before the Multimouse Nadder came around the corner and looked around the fork in the path in front of it. Once it stopped, Marinette peaked from her spot behind the left path of the fork, took a few calming breaths, and then rolled to the other side of the fork in the path, using her shield as extra momentum. Thankfully, she stayed within the dragon's blindspot, and was as quiet as she could be as she reached the other side of the path. Alya and Kim quickly followed in suit.

But when Adrien tried to do the same, his shield proved to be too heavy and pulled him out of his roll, causing him to fall to the ground, and catch the dragon's attention. After the dragon spotted him, Adrien got up from the ground and ran from the dragon just before it could eat him, and ran down the path. Angry that its meal had escaped again, the dragon jumped up onto the top of the maze wall in front of it and jumped to another one next to it before it spotted Marinette, Alya, and Kim. The dragon then jumped down from its perch and blocked the teen's path. As soon as the dragon appeared in front of them, Marinette and Alya raised their shields to defend themselves while lifting their weapons to attack. But their plan was interrupted when Kim jumped in front of them.

"Watch out girls. I'll take care of this." Kim announced as he used his shield to push the two girls back, and then threw his staff at the dragon. Unfortunately, it hits the wall on its left instead, which made the Nadder let out a laugh-like-roar at his pitiful attempt. Marinette and Alya turn their gaze from the dragon, and back at him, anger filling their faces while nervousness filled Kim's

"The sun was in my eyes, girls," Kim defended as he turned to face the two girls, while they glanced at the dragon before running down the path on their left, leaving Kim with the dragon. A second after the two of them left, the dragon shoots fire at Kim, who only had seconds to evade the blast and follow Alya and Marinette.

"What do you want me to do, block out the sun? I could do that but I don't have the time!" Kim rattled off as the three of them continued running through the maze. But when Kim and Alya took a left turn through an open path, Marinette continued running straight ahead, till another fork in the path forced her to think on the fly.

Marinette then skeeted on her shield to make the turn left, and avoided knocking into a continuously pestering Adrien; who was trying to pry more answers from the instructors; and a dead-end that would end up trapping her. Unfortunately, the Multimouse Nadder continued to follow Marinette, and in doing so it knocked into the wall at the fork in the path. This caused it to fall to the ground as the dragon continued chasing Marinette, who still tries to get away from it while the chase destroys the maze in the process. Meanwhile, Adrien was still trying to get more answers from Gorilla and Nathalie as everyone ran past him to get out of the rest of the maze before it collapsed.

"Has anyone ever seen one napping?" Adrien asked as Juleka and then Nino; followed by Luka; knock into him as they ran from the collapsing maze.

"Adrien!" Gorilla shouted at him, trying to get him to focus on the lesson while Adrien looked behind him to see that the maze was collapsing towards him. He also saw Marinette had climbed to the top of a falling wall that was heading to the ground, her shield in her left hand, and her whip in her right as the dragon closed in on her. Marinette quickly jumped to another wall, which just happened to be the wall behind Adrien. As the dragon jumped after her, it caused the wall Marinette was on to topple forward, just when she saw Adrien was in the way.

"ADRIEN!" Marinette shouted as she fell from the wall, and right towards him. Adrien fell back to the ground in surprise just as Marinette landed on top of him, her rope dart somehow getting wrapped around Adrien's shield as they ended up in a tangle of limbs. The dragon that was chasing her a second ago; however, was buried under some of the walls of the maze while the rest of the class was watching the scene in amusement from behind some of the fallen walls.

"Ooh! Love on the battlefield," Luka teased while Marinette tried to untangle her leg from Adrien's, her cheeks were painted a brilliant fire red.

"She could do so much better," Juleka remarked while Marinette continued to untangle herself from Adrien.

"Let me... why don't you...?" Adrien tried to offer, right before Marinette managed to break free from him and get onto her feet. In doing so, she was just in time to see the dragon get out from under the fallen walls it was pinned by and come running towards them.

With a gasp of shock, Marinette immediately attempted to pull her weapon off of Adrien's shield, even putting her foot on it to help hold the circle of wood down. But after failing to do so, she just pulled the shield off of Adrien's arm, even managing to push her foot into the left side of his face that earned some cries of pain from the boy. Once the shield was freed from Adrien's arm, Marinette jumped away from him, and swung her rope dart to make the shield hit the dragon in its chin, turning the shield into a shower of wood and metal and disorienting the dragon enough to walk away in pain.

"Well done, Marinette," Nathalie congratulated as the Multimouse Nadder fell to the ground, unconscious. At the feeling of accomplishment, Marinette breathed out a sigh of relief at her quick thinking before she turned to face Adrien. The boy in question was still on the ground, curled up into a ball and covering his head with his arms.

"Is this some kind of joke to you?" Marinette shouted at him, her tone giving out a sense of protectiveness as Adrien dropped his arms from his head to look up at her.

"Our parent's war is about to become ours," She continued as she wound up her rope dart and attached it to her belt.

"Figure out which side you're on," Marinette finished as she pointed her finger at Adrien, before walking away from him with Alya following behind her. As she left. Adrien looked down at the ground in disappointment that he was once again, unable to impress his crush. But as his thoughts were spinning through his head, he suddenly thought of an idea to get his answers about the Cat Noir Fury. With that, he got up from the ground and left the arena.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile on the bridge leading back to the village, Marinette and Alya were having a little chat about the previous events as they walked back to town.

"You know, you could have handled the situation a little better. Don't get me wrong, I know you have a crush on him, but that outburst was a dead give away. I thought you said you wanted to keep your crush on Adrien a secret," Alya lectured her best friend, much to Marinette's annoyance as she raised her hands to her face and dragged them down, pulling her skin with it before they fell off her face.

"I know, Alya. But how would you feel if Nino did something as stupid as what Adrien just did? Can you blame me for blowing up at him, he was not even being careful in there!" Marinette exclaimed, venting her frustration towards Adrien's obliviousness in class.

It was true, Marinette Dupain-Cheng had a giant crush on Adrien Agreste. It all started a few years back when they were 10. Marinette's family had just moved to Miraculous from their old island after it was raided by pirates, and were setting up their bakery when a sudden bout of Marinette's legendary clumsiness accidentally caused an oven fire in her family's bakery. But Adrien; who unbeknownst to Marinette, had fallen in love with her at first sight when she stepped off the boat her family had arrived on; took the heat for the incident so she could stay in the clear. From then on, Marinette was absolutely smitten with him.

"I don't blame you for your reaction, at all. But if you want to keep your crush on the downlow before you actually muster up the courage to tell him, you need to be more careful," Alya reminded, leaving Marinette to slump a bit as they walked on.

"Like he would believe me... clumsy and nervous-wreck, Marinette Dupain Cheng... has a crush on him." Marinette sighed out as she slouched forward, feeling defeated. Alya merely shook her head at her friend's behaviour. This wasn't the first time she's seen Marinette like this, and it probably wouldn't be the last.

The two met right after Marinette moved to Miraculous. Ever the curious one, Alya was excited to see the new people that arrived, and immediately wanted to make Marinette feel welcome. After the family was settled in, Alya invited the shy Marinette to play with her, and she was rewarded for her enthusiasm when Marinette said yes and joined her. It was also that day that Marinette met the rest of her current friend group. Ever since then, the group was inseparable, while Alya and Marinette became the best of friends.

"If by 'clumsy, and nervous wreck', you mean 'strong, graceful, and a powerhouse'? Then yes, he would believe you have a crush on him," Alya argued as she adjusted her walking path, and started walking backwards in front of Marinette. As the raven-headed girl continued walking forward, Alya placed her hands on her best friend's shoulders.

"You are an amazing girl, Marinette. And if Adrien can't see that, then it's his loss," the ombre haired girl said, lifting Marinette's spirits a bit and giving Alya a small smile.

"Thanks, Alya. But he's the chief's son! He's already above my league. And plus, he probably hates me after I yelled at him!" Marinette exclaimed, as her small smile fading.

"Don't say that about yourself, girl. Just because he's the chief's son, doesn't mean he's all that. Heck, yesterday, today, and many other events in the past have proved that," Alya rebutted, bringing up Adrien's less than stellar track record.

"Just be yourself, and he'll like you for who you are. The funny, smart, and loyal warrior queen who designs her own outfits, and bakes with her parents in her spare time. Not to mention training her butt off to be the best warrior Miraculous has ever seen," the fire haired girl praised, much to her friend's amusement as her smile grew wider.

"You're right. I just need to be myself," Marinette agreed as Alya readjusted her walking path again to walk next to Marinette.

"Of course I'm right. I always am," Alya proclaimed as she crossed her arms over her chest in cockiness, causing Marinette to roll her eyes at her antics.

"That's debatable," Marinette uttered with a smirk, causing the two girls to giggle and continue their walk to the village in a comfortable silence.
