Chapter 7
After Adrien left the arena, he raced to the village, and grabs a shield from the blacksmith shop, and then heads to the local cheese vendor to pick up a wheel of camembert, since he heard of a rumour from an older viking, that Cat Noir Furies liked to eat the stuff, and heads to the cove. Once he reaches the hidden cove, he looks around to find a lower entrance into the cove and manages to find a small passage in the rocks of the walls that kept the cove hidden. With a tentative few steps towards the opening, Adrien holds the shield in front of his body and walks towards the opening in the rock, stopping just two steps away from it. He peaks from behind his shield, and throws a wheel of camembert out in front of him, waiting for something to happen as it landed on the ground a few feet away from the opening. But when nothing happens, he decides to venture into the cove. But his shield gets stuck in between the crawl space as he tries to enter the cove. He tries to pull it back towards him, but it fails to move, so he goes underneath it to get into the cove, and tries to pull it towards himself again, but still can't get it out. In the end, he just gives up, walked up to where the camembert had landed, picks up the wheel of cheese and hesitantly goes around looking for the dragon trapped in the hidden cove.
But unknown to him, as he slowly looks around the cove, the Cat Noir Fury is watching him, as it was perched on a raised rock near where Adrien had entered from. As the dragon watches the boy, its tail moves side to side like a cat, as Adrien continues to look around for the dragon. Having grown confident, the Cat Noir Fury rolled its shoulders and extended its wings out into the air, as it raised itself to its feet and growls to bring Adrien's attention to him. Adrien hears it and turns to his left to gasp in surprise as he watched the dragon climbing down to the ground from its perch and crawls a few feet away from the raised rock, while Adrien turned his body to keep it in his line of sight. The dragon settles in front of the boy, sniffing the air around them and growls at him, showing it was very unsure if it can trust Adrien. Scared for his life, Adrien holds the cheese away from him with his right hand, hoping the dragon doesn't see it as an act of aggression. Tentatively, the dragon slowly comes closer to him, sniffing the camembert and keeping its eyes on it as it softly growls, and makes its way over to Adrien. But when it was about to take the cheese, the dragon glanced back at Adrien's waist, and lowly snarls at him, before it backs away a bit, while Adrien retracted his arm, and holds the cheese with his left arm as he realises that the knows that he has his dagger on him, pulling back his vest to show it, and testing his theory as the dragon lowly growls at him. To further test his theory, Adrien tries to go for the knife, and the dragon snarls even louder at him, and bunches up its body in response, causing the boy to back off a bit more. But as to show he meant the dragon no harm, Adrien takes the dagger from his belt and drops it on the ground next to his foot. But the dragon snarls at him again and moved its head to the side, while the boy used his foot to pick up the dagger, and tosses it into the lake. Once the blade splashed into the water, the dragon then calms down and sat on its behind while staring at the boy. When he was satisfied with the dragon's response, Adrien once again holds out the cheese with his hands, and the dragon tentatively comes toward him. As the dragon creeps over and was in front of Adrien's out-stretched arms, it opens its mouth, and much to Adrien's surprise, it has no teeth in its mouth.
"Huh, toothless," Adrien said, confused as the dragon's mouth got closer to the cheese in his palms
"I could have sworn you had..." Adrien continues to say just before the dragon's teeth come out of its gums, and it quickly takes the cheese out of Adrien's hand, and gobbles it down in two seconds, while Adrien gasped in surprise. Once it finished the cheese, it licked its chops, while Adrien held his hands close to his chest as he nervously stares at the dragon.
"...teeth." Adrien softly said as he tries to corral his shock. But after the dragon finished licking its mouth clean, it then comes towards the boy, making Adrien back up away from it.
"Uh..." Adrien tries to say, as he backs away from the dragon, before he tripped over his left foot and falls to the ground, and continues to scoot away from the dragon as it got closer.
"No, no, no." The boy said trying to get the dragons attention away from him, as he backs his way into a rock behind him, trapped as the dragon reached him, making the boy lean further into the rock as the dragon stops when it was a few inches away from him
"I... I don't have anymore!" Adrien said worriedly as the dragon leans in so close into his personal space, that he can smell his breath as it stares at the boy. But to Adrien's surprise, the dragon doesn't attack and instead regurgitates some of the camembert he ate onto Adrien's lap, much to his disgust.
"Ugh!" Adrien said as he looked down at the slimy cheese in his lap, while the dragon backed up from him, sits on his hind legs and looks at Adrien expectantly. Adrien just stares at the dragon in confusion, as he straightens up against the rock his back was pressed against, while said dragon merely continues to stare at him. As Adrien pants nervously while holding the regurgitated camembert, he is shocked that the dragon just stares at him, instead of attacking him. Soon, it becomes a little awkward for the boy as he glanced to his right; not believing that he is sitting right in front of supposedly the world's most deadliest dragon; and looks back at the dragon as it continues looking at him expectingly. Thankfully the dragon stopped merely staring at Adrien, and nodded his head at the camembert in Adrien's lap, to which the boy realised after looking where the dragon nodded to, that they want him to eat it. With a sigh, Adrien raises the disgusting piece of cheese to his mouth.
"Uh..." Adrien began, before he takes a bite, letting it sit in his mouth.
"Mmm!" Adrien exclaimed, while his mouth was full of the foul-tasting camembert, much to the dragon's amusement as it lowly growls at the boy while tilting its head in curiosity.
"Mm-hmm," Adrien said as he held the barely eaten cheese out towards the dragon, with a forced smile, and watering eyes. But the dragon doesn't make him stop there, and swallows, telling Adrien that he had to fully eat what he had in his mouth. Adrien moans in exasperation and drops the camembert to the ground. But realising that he had no choice, Adrien begins to swallow the mouthful he had, retching in the process, but then fully swallows it with a gulp and a shudder. The dragon then slurps its tongue and smacks its lips at the boy once he finished the cheese, to which Adrien smiles a toothy grin at the dragon in response. Tilting its head, the dragon soon follows in suit, smiling at Adrien without its retracted teeth, showing its adorable toothless smile. Seeing that as a sign of trust, Adrien gets up from the ground, and reaches out to the dragon, but when he was about to touch the dragon, it sees it as an act of aggression. Its teeth extended from its gums as it snarls at the boy before it runs off away from Adrien's right. In the dragon's process of running off, it tries to fly to the other side of the cove, with a growl, but still can't fly properly, which led to it falling to the ground on the opposite end of the cove. Meanwhile, Adrien watched from a distance as the dragon found a spot on the ground near the tree roots that spilled into the cove from the forest, and spins along the ground, using its fire to make a hot spot on the ground, patting down the larger fire bits, before laying down, and setting its head down to the ground. A second after that, a bird that was nesting in a tree above the dragon started chirping before flying away, making the Cat Noir Fury look up at it, as its head follows the bird's flight direction; its ears raised in the air to listen. But he looks away, only to be met with Adrien sitting cross-legged in front of the lake, a few feet away from the dragon. Adrien smiled awkwardly, and waved at the dragon, much to its annoyance as it lowered its ears. Ignoring him, the Cat Noir Fury sleepily growls, uses its wings and tail to wrap around himself, and began to sleep. But Adrien takes the opportunity to scoot over closer; his legs still crossed underneath him; to the dragon to get a better look at its tail. Once he is a foot away from the Cat Noir Fury, he leans out to touch the dragons tail, but just before his fingers can even graze over the tail, the dragon lifts its tail, catching Adrien in the act, causing the boy to walk away, pretending that didn't happen, while the dragon tiredly got to its feet, and walked away from its spot.
A while later, when the sun is setting, the dragon wakes up from its nap, while it hung upside down from a tree branch near its previous spot; its wings wrapped around him like a blanket and its tail in front of it, hiding its face. Looking around, he spotted Adrien sitting hunched over on a rock near the lake. Meanwhile, Adrien was leaning his head on his right arm; as it rested on his knee; while using a stick to draw the Cat Noir Fury. He had outlined the dragon and was starting to draw its head when he heard a purring growl next to him. Confused, he glanced to his right and was surprised that the dragon was sitting next to him. But he just continues drawing, seeing that the dragon seem to like what he is doing. The Cat Noir Fury watches with captivation as Adrien drew the dragons eyes; following the sticks strokes as it purrs in wonder. But just when Adrien was about to start on the dragon's body, the Cat Noir Fury suddenly got an idea. The dragon then walked away from Adrien on its hind legs, catching the boy's attention from his drawing and directing it onto the dragon as it goes to a tree, and snapped a branch off. A second later, the dragon comes back over to Adrien and starts to draw too, using its mouth to hold onto the branch as it did so. Adrien looks at the Cat Noir Fury from his spot on the rock, in confusion, as it starts spinning and swirling around the boy. The dragon seemed to be in a world of its own, invested in the lines and strokes it made, much to Adrien's wonder as he watched the dragon draw in the ground like it was dancing. It was a little bit later when the Cat Noir Fury was finished, but once it was, they purr in satisfaction at his handy work, which was a maze made out of a single line, with different sized loops and large unoccupied areas. A confessed Adrien looked around at the 'art' the dragon had made and starts to walk away to get a better look, but he accidentally stepped on one of the groves in the ground that made up the line of the drawing in front of him. In response, the dragon snarls at him, making Adrien wince as he looked at the Cat Noir Fury, and take his foot from the line and into the air; balancing on his left foot as the right one hovered in the air; to which the dragon responded with a purr. Catching on, Adrien continues to look at the dragon, and puts his foot back down onto the line, making the dragon snarl at him again, but then lifts it again, to which the dragon purrs once more. To further test his theory, Adrien puts his foot back down again, the dragon snarls once more, causing Adrien to lift it back up again, to which the dragon purrs in response. With his theory proven, Adrien then puts his foot on the other side of the line in front of him, and the dragon purrs in satisfaction, much to Adrien's joy as he looked at the Cat Noir Fury with a smile. Adrien then began to weave his way out of the maze the dragon had created, avoiding the lines and keeping the dragon happy as it watched Adrien move through the maze, almost like a dance. It wasn't long when Adrien made it out of the maze, but once he was, did he realise that his back was right in front of the Cat Noir Fury as he felt the dragon exhale to catch his attention, causing Adrien to turn around to face the dragon as it looms over him. The boy steps back a little, and the dragon bows his head at the boy, to which Adrien realised that the maze the dragon drew up... as a test. A test to see if it could trust him. Taking the opportunity Adrien raises his hand towards the dragon, but it tilted its head down, narrowing its eyes, and snarls at him. Adrien pulls his hand back, causing the dragon to stop growling, which gave Adrien an idea. The boy looked away, closed his eyes, then lowers his head, and raises his hand in front of him again. The dragon tilted its head back to where it was before and widened its eyes while it looked at Adrien's outstretched hand as it hovered a few inches away from it. Unsure at first, the dragon edged its nose forward, and then finally leans its nose into Adrien's hand, while his eyes closed as well. As soon as the dragon's nose made contact with Adrien's hand, he expected to be eaten, but after a second, Adrien looks at the dragon with a surprised look on his face, but it soon softened into a smile.
"I think you and I are going be good friends. But you need a name." Adrien said as the dragon's leaned into his hand more. The boy pursed his lips as he thought about a good name for his new dragon friend. He glanced at the neon green scales on his body, and face, and his mind quickly thought of his favourite legend. It told of a kwami, that had the power over destruction, and was said to have been a co-creator of the Cat Noir Fury, along with Hel; the goddess of death. Seeing as he was touching said dragon, Adrien thought it was an appropriate name.
"How about I call you Plagg? After the kwami of destruction?" Adrien asked, to which the dragon; now named Plagg; purrs in response, seeming to like the name. But soon, Plagg pulls away from the boy's hand and runs away from Adrien as he proceeded with what had just happened.
Later that night, Adrien had arrived back in the village, and the entire dragon training class; plus Gorilla; were sitting around a fire pit on one of the catapult towers that were near the blacksmith stall, roasting chicken and fish on a stick; everyone but Adrien had a chicken; while they listened to a story from Gorilla as they ate
"And with one twist, he took my hand, and swallowed it whole!" Gorilla exclaimed while waving the large chicken speared by his fork hand attachment into the air as the students; save for Adrien who was caught in his thoughts; listened with apt attention.
"I saw the look on his face... I was delicious." Gorilla said as he pointed his chicken at the amazed students, before lifting it back up into the air as he finished his sentence.
"He must have passed the word because it wasn't a month before another one of them took my leg." The blacksmith said before he lifted his peg leg to show the students who were in awe of him.
"Isn't it weird to think your hand was inside a dragon?" Nino asked while he held a chicken leg in each hand, while he sat next to Alya; who sat on Marinette's right; and Max sat next to him, while Alya saw some merit to Nino's question.
"Like your mind was still in control of it, you could have killed the dragon from the inside by crushing his heart or something," Alya said, as she continues to roast her chicken on a metal pole over the fire, while the rest of the group looked at Alya and Nino as they explained the idea.
"I swear, I am so angry right now," Felix growls out, as he raised his chicken from the fire, and seemed very invested in Gorilla's story, much to the other students surprise.
"I will avenge your hand and your beautiful foot," Felix said, glancing over at his teacher before turning back to the other students.
"I will chop off the legs of every dragon I fight, with my sword." The boy said as he swung his rotating pole; with his chicken still on it; at the other students, before he pointed to the sword strapped to his back. The boy never went out of his house without it, but when he had, it was a rarity. But Gorilla bites into his chicken and glanced at Felix as he swallowed his mouth full, before he disagreed with the boy, using the opportunity for a valuable lesson.
"No. It's the wings and the tails you really want." Gorilla said as he pulls a wing from his chicken, raising it in the air as an example for the students.
"If it can't fly, it can't get away." The blacksmith said, looking around the group, as he waved the chicken wing in front of them.
"A downed dragon, is a dead dragon," Gorilla said, bringing Adrien out of his thoughts, making him realise the devastating truth in his teacher's statement while the other students soaked up the lesson like sponges before Gorilla stretched out his arms while he widely yawned, and put his arms down.
"Alright, I'm off to bed." The blacksmith said as he got to his feet.
"You should be too," Gorilla said waving his left arm; which still had the large chicken on the fork attachment; at the students.
"Tomorrow we get to the big boys, slowly, but surely, making our way up to the Hawkmoth Nightmare." He said, spiking interest in the teens; save for Adrien; as they forgo their dinners and leaned forward towards the fire pit in anticipation.
"But who will win the honour of killing it?" Gorilla rhetorically asked while Kim puts down his rotating stick; with his nearly finished chicken on it; leans back and puts his arms up behind his head as he smirked at the others in cockiness.
"It's going to be me. It's my destiny. See?" The boy twin said as he lifted his right sleeve to show off a cool looking mark, surprising Nino.
"(Gasp) Your mom let you get a tattoo?" Nino said in amazement, while Marinette noticed that Adrien wasn't where he was sitting before, his smoking fish the only evidence that he was even there.
"It's not a tattoo, it's a birthmark," Kim said as Marinette got up and goes over to the stairs, just in time to see him going down to the village.
"Ok, I have been stuck with you since birth, and that was never there before," Chloé said, much to Kim's annoyance, while Marinette concludes that Adrien was going home, and she rejoins the other kids.
"Yes, it was. You've just had never seen me from the left side until now." Kim said while Marinette sat back down and continues eating with the others. A while later, the class leaves the catapult, the fire being extinguished and leaving the area pitch black. But the blacksmith shop was now brightly lit. While everyone is asleep, Adrien was in the blacksmith shop private back room, where he would get to work on his inventions, and tonight was no exception. Thinking about what Gorilla had said earlier, he pulled out his notebook, and placed it on his desk, before opening it up to the drawing of the Cat Noir Fury. Once he had the drawing in front of him, Adrien grabs a pencil and remade the drawing of the left tail fin, thinking of the plan, and draws it up on a separate sheet of paper until he was pleased with the end design. Immediately, he started up the forge, using the giant fire pump to heat the largest sword he could find, so he could use the material for his invention. Once the metal was hot enough, Adrien then broke up the blazing hot metal and used it to make up the components that he needed, starting with a metal rod; the top part flat with two holes on top of each other in the middle of it, while the bottom half was rounded like a bolt; that he hammers to make sure it was just right, blows on it to remove any metal shavings that could have attached themselves to the hot metal, and dunks it in the cooling bucket, making the metal sizzle as it cools down. After the rod cools down he puts it on his table for later and then moves on to the next part. Adrien then quickly takes a broken shield and uses a pair of tongs to pry off the bolts off of the shield, before he heats them, and uses a smaller, detailing hammer to make them smaller. Once those were done, and cooled, Adrien grabs a few ball bearings from a barrel, and weights them for the perfect weight. When he was satisfied, he placed the ball bearings into little holders, placed them into the holes of the rod, used a wrench to tighten them, and started to connect the pieces of his invention. together. As soon as he connects the pieces of the skeleton of the invention, Adrien takes out some dark grey cloth, placed it on the inventions skeleton, and sews it around the frame of the invention, before putting the finishing touches on it. Once it was done, Adrien raised it to his eye level and softly smiled at his invention... a new tail fin for Plagg. Quickly, the boy folds it up, hides it so Gorilla won't find it, goes home, and crawls into bed, nervous of what will happen the very next day.
