Chapter 5
The next morning came with the sun rising on the horizon and streaming into Adrien's room through the cracks of a skylight; blocked off by a wooden door that could be opened by a crank next to his desk; as a beam landed on Adrien's closed eyes. Annoyed with the light on his eyelids, Adrien placed his hand on his eyes, rubbing the sleep from his eyes as he rose from his bed and stretches his back; raising his arms into the air in the process. Once he finished waking up, he turned to the side of his bed facing the door, puts on his boots, then stands up so he can walk over to his desk. When he gets there, he brushed out his shaggy bed hair and combed it out of his eyes. After doing his morning routine, he then grabbed the axe at the foot of his bed and climbed down the stairs to exit the house; carrying the heavy axe as he went. Once he was outside, Adrien's nose immediately picked up the smell of his favourite breakfast.
"Mmh, croissants. The Dupain-Cheng's must have made a fresh batch." Adrien said, right before he starts to walk over to the Dupain-Cheng bakery for breakfast before he went to his first dragon training class. As he neared the medium-sized, open-aired hut that acted as the bakery, the smell kept getting stronger, enticing Adrien as he entered the shop. Under the roof of the hut, and at the front entrance, was a small table, acting in the role of a payment area, while next to it stood an open display case that showed all of the treats the bakery had to offer that day, with more shelves on the sides of the entrance to the bakery, were laden with more of the treats in the display case, while the ovens and other baking equipment was tucked into the back of the shop, away from prying eyes. At the counter was a short woman of Chinese descent, with black hair, cut into a bob, warm grey eyes, pale skin, and thin, light pink lips. Her outfit consisted of a white elbow-length sleeved dress to her mid-thighs; with slits on the sides of her thighs to add more mobility; with red flower-like shapes on the bottom of her right sleeve, and the bottom left of her dress, while yellow dots clumped together on her right shoulder, on top of the right side of her chest, at her right hip, and at the near bottom of the right side of her dress, all connected to black vine-like branches coming from the red flowers of the dress; the dots at the bottom half of the dress connected to the bottom left red flower, while the ones on the top half, were connected to the flower on the bottom of her right sleeve; lilac leggings, and black boots with white fur lining the top of them. The woman was cleaning off the counter for the day when she looked up and saw Adrien walking in.
"Good morning, Adrien. How are you?" The woman asked as the boy drew closer.
"I'm doing good, thanks for asking Mrs Dupain-Cheng," Adrien said as he reached the counter, and leaned his axe against the base of the display case.
"Please, Adrien. You've been coming here for years now, you can call me Sabine." The woman; now revealed as Sabine; said with a dismissal wave of her hand at Adrien.
"Thank you, Mrs Dupain... uh... I mean... Sabine." Adrien stutters out, a little nervous that she asked him to call her by her first name since his dad always told him to respect his elders.
"That's a good boy. Anyway, what will it be? The usual?" Sabine asked, knowing full well why he was here.
"Yes, please. One croissant please." Adrien said, while Sabine goes to the display case, picked up a cloth bag and used it to cover her hand as she grabs the freshly baked croissant while he waited.
"So... uh... is your daughter or husband around?" Adrien asked while he scratched the back of his neck out of nervousness. But when Sabine heard the question, she looked up from tying the cloth bag closed and softly smiled at him.
"No, you just missed them. Marinette and her friends are on their way to the arena for dragon training. And Tom went with your father on the search party. " She said, which brought Adrien some hope in his, soon to be, death day. Yeah, the bakery was owned by the Dupain-Chang's; Marinette Dupain-Cheng's parents. Aside from being very loving and supportive people, and making the best pastries and treats in the Parisian Archipelago, the chance of seeing his crush, was a big reason why he liked coming here.
"Really? Well, I guess I might see Marinette at the arena then." Adrien said as he dug into his pocket and took out a few coins to pay for the croissant.
"You're father is allowing you to join the others in their class?" Sabine asked as she handed him the cloth bag containing his breakfast.
"Yeah. But I'm a little nervous." Adrien said, as he took the bag from Sabine and gave her the coins in exchange. But he was more than nervous, he was terrified of being either killed or found out to have spared the Cat Noir Fury. But in order to keep people from finding out, he needed to do what his father wanted.
"It's okay to be nervous on the first day. I bet by next week, you'll be acing your classes." Sabine said, trying to encourage the young boy.
"Thank you, Sabine. I better get going so I won't be late." Adrien said as he reached for his axe.
"You better hurry, the class starts soon," Sabine said as she closed the back of the display case, and placed the coins into a chest under the counter she was standing at, while Adrien walked to the exit. But before he left, he turned back to face Sabine once more, a question burning on his lips.
"Hey, uh... Sabine?" Adrien said, pulling her attention back to him.
"Yes, Adrien?" Sabine asked, curious as to what the boy wanted to say.
"Have you... ever felt... that dragons can be good?" Adrien asked, unsure that he should have even asked the question. But instead of judging him, Sabine merely gave him a soft smile.
"At one point, yes. When I was around your age, I thought that dragons could be good. But then my uncle had gotten his leg eaten off of him in a dragon raid. I never looked at dragons that way again." Sabine said, while a few stray tears fell from her face at the memory, which made Adrien feel guilty for bringing it up.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to open that old wound." Adrien said, trying to apologise for his prying.
"Don't worry, Adrien. You didn't know." Sabine said as she wiped away the tears from her face, then smiled at him
"Now you better get going before you're late." She said as she wiped off her hands from her tears, while Adrien's eyes widened in worry.
"Right! Thanks for answering my question. See you tomorrow." Adrien said as he ran out of the bakery and towards the arena on the other side of the island, while Sabine fondly shakes her head at his behaviour. It took Adrien a few good minutes to reach the arena, where he saw the other recruits waiting outside for lessons to start. When he got close enough, Adrien hides behind a boulder on the right side of the entrance to the arena and scarfed down his breakfast. Once he finished, Adrien wiped his mouth with the back of his hand to get rid of any crumbs, and turned to see Gorilla had arrived and was leading the class down into the arena. He takes the opportunity of the students being distracted by Gorilla and goes to the back to avoid being seen. Gorilla leads the recruits at the top of the slope in front of the entrance to the arena, and down to the bottom of the sloping path to a large gate blocking the way inside. But Gorilla merely grabs the bottom of the obstacle and lifts it, opening the way into the arena.
"Welcome to dragon training!" Gorilla said, holding out his hook hand out towards the arena.
"No turning back." Marinette; who was at the front of the group and armed with her whip; said as she walked into the open arena. The rest of her friends follow her; carrying their weapons with them; as they follow her in. Once they were inside, they looked around the arena in awe. The arena itself was a 30ft deep pit around half a mile wide; that sat on a cliff overlooking the harbour below the village; which was covered by a metal cage-like top that could be lowered and raised when needed, while 7 large iron doors; that were lined along the side opposite of the entrance and blocked any sight of anything trapped behind them; held the dragons the village had managed to capture alive for training sessions like these.
"I hope to get some serious burns," Kim said; carrying his dark brown wooden staff, and capped with 1 foot of gold on both ends, in his right hand; as he walked in.
"I am hoping for some mauling, like on my shoulder or lower back," Chloe said; while she had her yellow and black striped trompo, attached to a cable, sits at her hip; as she walked beside her brother
"Yeah, it's only fun if you get a scar out of it," Alya said; carrying her orange and white banded spear with a black iron point in her right hand; as she walked next to Marinette.
"Yeah, no kidding, right?" Adrien said; as he held his axe in his hands; causing the others to turn and see him at the back of the group
"Pain. Love it." Adrien sarcastically said, much to the disappointment of the other students in his presence.
"Oh great. Who let him in?" Kim asked, which was what Chloé and Felix were wondering, while the rest of them were just kind of happy he was here too. But before Adrien could answer, Gorilla intervened, much to his relief.
"Let's get started!" Gorilla said, drawing everyone's attention back to him.
"The recruit that does best will win the honour of killing his first dragon in front of the entire village." He said; while making a stabbing gesture with his left hook hand as he spoke; to the students.
"Adrien already killed a Chat Noir Furry, so does that disqualify him?" Felix snidely asked; as he held a silver sword; with a dark purple handle and black iron pommel on the bottom, in his right hand; much to Kim and Chloé's amusement as they laughed with him; while the rest of the group just shook their heads in disbelief; and they all walked further into the arena.
"Can I transfer to the class with the cool vikings?" Kim asked as he walked with the group; sans Adrien; towards the closed dragon cage doors.
"Don't worry," Gorilla said; once everyone else in the class had gone to line up in front of the iron doors; as he walked over to Adrien and placed his right hand on the boy's shoulder, comforting him while they walked to the rest of the group.
"You're small and weak... that'll make you look less of a target. They'll see you as sick or insane, and go after the more viking like teens instead." He said with a chuckle, trying to cheer Adrien up as they continue walking. After Gorilla finished talking, he and Adrien had reached the others, and he gently shoved him into the lineup, next to Nino; as he held a dark green shield, with a light green backside where the dark brown leather strap he used to hold it to his arm resided; while Gorilla walked up to the front of the class and begins the lesson.
"Behind these doors, are just a few of the many species you will learn to fight," Gorilla said, right before walking up to the first door. The door was fastened to the wall with large hinges, had a rectangular bottom, then a triangular top, and blocked by a log of wood; that could be lowered and raised to keep the dragon in or release it; that sat on a piece of wood bolted to either side of the door and jutting out from the door to hold the door closed.
"The Multimouse Natter." Gorilla said as he stood in front of it; while the dragon behind the door was banging against the iron doors to get out; and walked to the next one in the chain.
"Speed 8, Armor 16," Max said; while he held his dark brown, bladed, horseshoe-shaped boomerang in his hands; rambling on facts about the dragon Gorilla named.
"The King Monkey Queen Bee Zippleback," Gorilla said as he reached the next door; the dragon behind it knocking against the doors. This one was wider than the last one, and while it had the same rectangular base as the previous one, this one had rounded tops on each door and had two pieces of wood bolted to either side of the door and jutting out from the door, to hold a log of wood that could be lowered and raised like the other one.
"Plus 11 Stealth. Times 2," Alya said; joining in with Max in spouting out facts; while Gorilla walked back to the next door.
"The Papillon Nightmare," Gorilla said as he approached the next door; as the dragon behind it tries to escape. This one was a simple wide square door, but an even more dramatic difference was that instead of being two simple doors, it was made look like a herringbone pattern; with four long, pointed parts going from pointing to the right to left, with the top one starting off the pattern by pointing right, then the next one points to the left, then the next, points to the right, while the final one points to the left; and four smaller parts at the end of the bigger ones; pointing inward to fit the point of the bigger parts of the door; with the log blocking the door from opening; forgoing being on top of pieces of wood jutting out from the door; was split in two right down the middle; with the bottom part able to be lowered into the ground underneath it; and held down by four large hoops welded to the ends of the longer parts of each section of the door.
"Firepower 15," Nino said; joining in with Alya and Max in their rambling; as Gorilla approached the next door in the chain.
"The Kwami Terror," Gorilla said as he got to the next door, which was surprisingly still. This door was just a simple rectangle, with a log that could be lowered onto two pieces of wood jutting out from the door to hold it closed. One of the simpler ones.
"Attack 8, Venom 12," Max said, while Gorilla kept walking over to the next door.
"The Rena Rouge TimberJack," Gorilla said as he reached the third to last door, while it was shaking from the trapped dragon's attempts to escape. This one was a much wider version of the Multimouse Nadders doors, but instead of having one piece of wood on each door to hold the log of wood, much like the King Monkey Queen Bee Zippleback's doors, it had two pieces of wood on each door to hold the log.
"Wingspan 90 feet, Shot limit 8," Alya said, with fascination; as it was her favourite dragon; while Gorilla walked to the second to last door.
"The Pegasus Hackatoo," Gorilla said as he reached the door as it shook from the force of the dragon behind it. This door was just a slightly bigger version of the Kwami Terrors door, but with two pieces of wood jutting out to hold the log that blocked it from opening.
"Firepower 7, Speed 9" Max said excitedly; seeing as this dragon was his personal favourite; before Gorilla reached the last door and turned to face the three students that were rambling on facts about the dragons he named.
"CAN YOU THREE STOP THAT!?" Gorilla shouted at them; annoyed with their fact rambling; while he reached the final door as it shook from the dragon behind it.
"And the Carapace Gronkle," Gorilla said as he quickly calmed down and placed his hand onto the lever next to the door. This door was in the shape of an oval; with the bottom flat on the ground; and had a piece of wood on each door to hold the log that every other door had to keep the dragon from busting out.
"Jaw strength 8." Nino excitedly whispered to Adrien; since the Carapace Gronkle was his favourite dragon. Meanwhile, as soon as Felix saw that Gorilla had his hand on the lever that controls the log blocking the doors from opening, he immediately caught onto what Gorilla was going to do
"Woah! Woah!" Felix cried out as he stepped forward to try and reason with the blacksmith.
"Wait, aren't you going to teach us first?" He asked; worried that Gorilla was that crazy. And unfortunately for all of them... he was.
"I believe in learning on the job." Gorilla smugly said with a smirk on his face before he pulls the lever down. The log blocking the door rose, and the door burst open, letting the Carapace Gronkle come flying out of its cage.
"Today is about survival," Gorilla said as the students scattered; seeing as they were in its flight path; while the dragon flew to the other end of the arena.
"If you get blasted... your dead!" Gorilla continues as the dragon accidentally crashed into the wall next to the entrance, but quickly recovered as it then saw a few large rocks and quickly ate them.
"QUICK! What's the first thing you're going to need?" Gorilla asked the students while the Carapace Gronkle got into the air again.
"A doctor?" Adrien asked, not knowing what to do.
"Plus 5 speed?" Nino asked as he panicked.
"A shield." Marinette confidently said, crouched and ready to go, with her whip unwrapped and in her hands.
"Shields. Go!" Gorilla said. Immediately, everyone; save for Nino; runs to grab one of the many shields around the arena. But unfortunately, Adrien was having a little trouble with his.
"Your most important piece of equipment is your shield. If you must make a choice between a sword or a shield, take the shield!" Gorilla said as he walked over to Adrien, helped him get his shield onto his arm and pushed him back into the chaos. Meanwhile on the other side of the arena Chloé and Kim reached for the same shield, while Nino was being chased by the dragon
"Get your hands off my shield," Kim shouts out as he and Chloé try to pull the shield towards themselves; ending up in a game of tug of war.
"There's like a million shields!" Chloé shouts at him, trying to get it away from him.
"Take that one," Kim said as he used his head to point to a shield on the ground next to his left foot, and continues to try and get the shield they were fighting over
"It has a flower on it... girls like flowers 🌺." He said, much to Chloé's ire as she manages to pull the shield from his grip and hits him on the top of his head.
"Oops." Chloé said as she lifted the shield from Kim's head and 'innocently' smiles at him.
"Now this one has blood on it," Chloé says before Kim grabs it again, continuing their war of tug. But as they were fighting, the Carapace Gronkle abandoned his chase of Nino, flew over to the two of them, and shot them with a green lava blast on the shield, knocking them both to the ground
"Kim, Chloé! You're out!" Gorilla shouts out as the two of them slowly get up from the ground.
"What?" Chloé and Kim groggily asked as they sat up from the ground. But Gorilla just continues with the lesson.
"Those shields are good for another thing." Gorilla began as the Gronkle circles back and faces the remaining students in the middle of the arena.
"Noise! Make lots of it, to throw off a dragons aim." He said right before the students took his advice, and started banging their weapons against the metal rims of their shields. The noise does its job, making the dragon's sight blur and become warbled, while the students try to surround it on the ground.
"All dragons have a limited number of shots," Gorilla said before the students stop banging their shields, and the dragon's sight recovers.
"How many does a Carapace Gronkle have?" He continues while the dragon starts to fly around the arena again.
"Five?" Felix guessed as he ran from the dragon and towards the other end of the arena, away from the dragon
"No, six!" Max and Nino shout out, raising their shield hands into the air and accidentally drawing in the dragon's attention as it stops flying and turned to face the two of them
"Correct, six! That's one for each pair of you." Gorilla said right before the dragon behind Max and Nino shoots at them, hitting their shields, and blasting them off of their arms.
"Nino, Max, out!" Gorilla said while Max and Nino run away from the dragon, and ran to the exit. Meanwhile, Adrien, who was hiding behind a medium-sized wall of wood, started to creep back into the chaos.
"Adrien, get in there!" Gorilla shouts out to Adrien when he noticed him coming out of his hiding spot, with his shield in front of him. But suddenly, the Gronkle shot a lava blast mere inches away from Adrien before he got 2 feet away from his hiding spot. In shock, the boy creeps back to his previous hiding spot, while the remaining students were on the other side of the arena to avoid the dragon. The other remaining students in the chaos were Marinette, Alya and Felix, but this would most likely not be the case for long as the dragon came barreling towards them.
"So anyway, Marinette, I moved into my parent's basement." Felix began as he stood behind Alya and Marinette while the Gronkle flew towards them, and much to the two girls annoyance.
"You should come by sometime to work out." Felix continues before Marinette cartwheeled away from him, while Alya readjusted her grip on her shield.
"You look like you work out." The boy said before Alya looked up from her task, and smacked him upside the head in annoyance.
"Do you ever shut up?!" Alya yells at him, right before the dragon shot at their shields, knocking them out of the lesson.
"Felix, Alya! You're done!" Gorilla proclaimed as Marinette rolls over next to Adrien; who finally got out of his hiding place; and leapt onto her feet, slightly bouncing on them to make a quick getaway. Once Adrien saw how close Marinette was to him, he nervously walked up to her to greet her as she scanned the area around her
"So, I guess it's just you and me, huh?" Adrien nervously asked before Marinette sees the dragon coming towards them.
"Nope, just you." She said before she runs to her left, and passed in front of Adrien right before the dragon shoots at him. Adrien only had a split second to raise his shield to protect himself, and block the lava blast from hitting him, and redirect it to the wall behind him. But the force of the blast knocked his shield from his arm and caused it to roll away from him.
"One shot left!" Gorilla shouts out while Marinette runs from the dragon, while it chased after Adrien as he ran to retrieve his rolling shield, unaware of the danger he was in as the shield rolled towards one of the surrounding walls
"ADRIEN!" Gorilla shouts out at him, trying to warn him of the incoming danger. Thankfully, Adrien turned to look at him, and saw the Carapace Gronkle in the corner of his eye, and ran to the wall his shield was previously rolling towards. But it rolled into another direction, and the dragon traps him on the wall as it got as close as it could before he could get away. Adrien breaths heavily in panic while the Gronkle rears his head back and prepares to fire its last lava blast at him. Adrien closed his eyes and turned his head away as he waited for the dragon to kill him. But thankfully, Gorilla had run over to them, and grabbed the corner of the dragon's jaw with his hook and then pulls the dragon's mouth upward, as it made them hear the shot. The final lava blast hits the wall above Adrien, causing the boy to cover his head with his arms from falling rocks, while Gorilla wrestles the dragon away from the boy, and towards its cage. Adrien looked up in shock, surprised to still be alive, while he sees the dragon trying to get away from the blacksmith.
"And that's six," Gorilla said as the dragon tries to fly away from him. But thankfully, Gorilla's hook keeps it from doing so.
"Go back to bed, you overgrown sausage!" Gorilla shouts at the dragon as he swings it around as it flies in the air, and tosses it into its cage. Once the dragon is inside, Gorilla closes the doors, and pushed the lever up, causing the log to drop back down and block the door from opening again.
"You'll get another chance, don't you worry," Gorilla tells the exhausted class as they gathered up together; save for Adrien, who was still at the same spot he was when the dragon trapped him; while he walked towards Adrien.
"Remember, a dragon will always..." Gorilla says, addressing the class before he kneels in front of Adrien.
"... always go for the kill." Gorilla finished; turning his head to Adrien; before he grabbed his arm to pull him up to his feet. Once he did, Gorilla walked away from the shell shocked Adrien, while he looked at the smouldering wall; his shock wearing off; and thought back to yesterdays events.

"So... why didn't you?" Adrien asked out loud as he crouched to the ground and picked up one of the bolis weights in his hand. He had gone back to the place where the dragon he had caught, crashed landed, and where he released it. After holding the weight in his hand for a little bit, he drops it back to the ground, rose to his full height, he started going deeper into the forest beyond the area the dragon had crashed in. He continues walking around a little more when he came to a group of boulders at the bottom of a small slope. Adrien jumps down to the bottom of the slope and walked towards the boulders, only to find a gap in between the two biggest ones, with light shining through them. He walks through the gap, and finds himself at the entrance of a beautiful secluded cove, at least 40 feet below the forest floor, surrounded by high rock walls, with lush forest brush, and long tree roots pouring over the rim of the top, and onto the wall-like stone, and into the cove. Meanwhile a huge pool of water; home to many fish and aquatic life; sat in the middle of the secret area, and was surrounded by a lush grass field. As Adrien looks out from his high perch, he concludes that it is empty, aside from the few birds that flew across his vision.
"Well, this was stupid," Adrien said to himself as he glanced at the rock ground his feet were on. But then he noticed a few shiny large-coin-sized, green and black ombré scales on the ground, next to his left foot. He crouched down and picked one of them up and studied it for a second in the light before he lightly stroked it.
"The dragon might be nearby." Adrien thought to himself as he continues to study the scale. But suddenly, as if he summoned it with his thoughts, the Cat Noir Fury jumped onto the top of the entrance Adrien was at, with a growl, and grabbed onto it, startling Adrien so much that he fell backwards, away from the dragon. The boy quickly picks himself up and leans against the wall on his right and watched the dragon as it tries to climb the smooth wall above him, causing small rocks to fall off in the process. But its efforts were in vain as it slipped and fell to the ledge Adrien was on. The dragon still tries to climb out, but he slipped off of the smooth ledge, and fell backwards into the cove, catching itself in a wobbly glide before it hits the water, and tumbled to the ground next to the lake. Meanwhile, Adrien stares at the dragon in shock and decided to get a closer look. He looked around for a way off of the ledge he was on, and saw a ledge below the one he was on currently, and went down to the niche to watch the dragon. The dragon in question was once again trying to fly out and to the rim of the walls, but its tail curled inward, derailing its flight path and it landed on its feet at the other side of the cove. As he watched the dragon in awe, while it tries to fly up and grab onto the wall in front of it; only to fall back to the ground with a snarl; Adrien saw this as a great opportunity to draw the dragon into his notebook. In a hurry, he pulls out his notebook and pencil and draws the dragons body while it once again tries to fly up and grab onto the wall to climb out and fall to the ground once more with a growl. Just as Adrien finished drawing the last tail fin, he curiously glanced back at the dragon and wondered if there was something wrong while the dragon bellows and growls in anguish
"Why don't you just fly away?" Adrien quietly asked himself as he looked at the dragon once again as it shot a neon green and dark purple blast of flame in frustration at the ground in front of it. Adrien looks at his drawing, and then back at the dragon, and sees a difference in the drawing and the dragon, rubs it off of his drawing, immediately seeing the problem. Its left tail fin was gone. That meant the dragon couldn't properly steer and balance himself in the air. Meanwhile, the dragon tries to fly up into the air again, but once it got high enough in the air to attempt to turn towards the rim of the cove, its tail once again curled into its tail body, and caused the dragon to crash on the other side of the cove it was previously on. With a growl, the dragon lands next to the lake, feeling defeated, when it saw a fish breach the water of the lake, catch its attention, seeing as it hadn't eaten in a while. The dragon picked itself from the ground and stalked to the unsuspecting fish, as it floated lazily in the water near it. But once the dragon tried to catch it; plunging its head into the lake; the fish swam away, leaving the dragon hungry as it pulls its head from the water. Meanwhile, Adrien; who was watching everything from his little niche; looked down at the rock under him in guilt and realises his mistake. In his reflection, he drops his hand to the rock underneath him, and his grip on his pencil loosened, and it rolls into the cove while Adrien tried to recover it before it did so. As soon as the pencil hits the ground underneath the niche Adrien is on, the dragon hears the sound it makes, looks up to find the source of where it dropped and sees Adrien on the niche. The dragon doesn't do anything but stare at the boy, his eyes burning a hole in him as Adrien stares back at it, and slightly tilts his head to the left, before the dragon copies him, and tilted its head to its right as it stares at him.
(Time Skip)
After finding the Cat Noir Fury trapped in the hidden cove, Adrien makes his way back to the village, as it starts to rain. When he gets there, Adrien decides to go into the Great Hall to have dinner, but when he opens the door, he heard the class sitting at one of the wooden benches, finishing their dinner, and talking about the days earlier events and mistakes they had made, while Gorilla stands near them.
"Alright, where did Marinette go wrong in the ring today?" Gorilla asked, continuing the conversation that started before Adrien walked in.
"I mistimed my somersault dive. It was sloppy. It threw off my reverse tumble." Marinette admitted; leaning onto her arms as they sat on the table; while Adrien walked closer to them, soaking wet.
"Yeah, we noticed." Chloé rudely says as before she bites into her chicken leg.
"Well, I thought you did great," Alya said as she placed a hand onto her friend's shoulder.
"She is right. That was very "Marinette"." Felix said, agreeing with Alya, while Marinette grabbed her mug next to her plate and takes a sip
"She's right. You have to be tough on yourself." Gorilla said while Adrien reached the table, and grabbed the remaining plate of chicken and mug of water. Meanwhile, Felix sneered at him, Chloé rolled her eyes at him, and Marinette simply sees him grab the plate before he starts walking to the table next to the classes, while Gorilla notices his presence.
"Where did Adrien go wrong today?" Gorilla said as Adrien continues his walk to the other table.
"Uh, he showed up." Chloé guesses as Adrien passed their table.
"He didn't get eaten." Kim supplied, agreeing with his twin.
"He's never where he should be," Marinette said as Adrien reached the other table.
"Thank you, Marinette," Gorilla said as Adrien sat down at the bench, and listened to the blacksmith as he continues.
"You all need to live and breath this stuff," Gorilla said as he walked from the side of the bench closest to the centre fire pit and to the head of the table; glancing at Adrien in the process; while he pulls out a large book from his belt and holds it in the air as he walked.
"The Dragon Manual." He said before he pushed aside some of the plates and mugs off of the table, and plops the book in the newly freed space.
"Everything we know about every dragon we know of," Gorilla said; peaking all of the student's interests, save for Kim as he tries to balance a knife at its point; before thunder rumbled outside, much to Gorilla's observation.
"No attacks tonight. Study up." He said, as he walks away from the table, and towards the door.
"Wait, you mean read?" Kim said, as his concentration broke; allowing the knife he was balancing to fall; and turned towards the departing Gorilla.
"While we're still alive?" Chloé asked incuriously, shocked that they were tasked with studying.
"Why read the words of a book when you can just kill the beasts that the book tells you about?" Felix asked as he bangs the table as he spoke.
"Oh, Alya, Max and I've read it seven times." Nino excitedly said, which in turn excited the other two dragon nerds at the table.
"There's this water dragon that sprays boiling water at your face," Max said, joining in with Nino, while the other students; save for Marinette, Nino and Alya; were just looking at the dragon nerds like they were crazy.
"And there's this other one... that buries itself for a week..." Alya rambles out excitedly, trying to contribute her own.
"Yeah, yeah. That sounds great." Kim said, interpreting Alya; while gesturing with his hand for her to shut her mouth.
"There was a chance I was going to read that..." Kim continues as he lowered his hand and leaned back in his seat
"But now..." Chloé said, bored out of her mind, while Kim glanced back at her, then turned to face the three of them, with a stupid smirk.
"You guys read. I'll go kill a few beasts." Felix said as he stood up from his seat and starts to walk away. Right after Felix left the table, Kim pushed Chloé head into the table and runs away, before she recovered and started to chase after him, all while Nino, Alya and Max continue their spouting out of dragon knowledge, which left Marinette and Adrien alone. While the others were making their way out of the Great Hall, Adrien got up from the bench he was on and went over to her.
"So I guess we'll share?" Adrien began, trying to start up a conversation with herbs he stood at the head of the table, next to Marinette.
"I... um... already read it." Marinette stammers out before she slid the book towards him and quickly got up to leave, much to Adrien's disappointment, and slight confusion since Marinette has never acted like that in front of anyone.
"Uh, all mine then. Wow. So, okay, I'll see you..." Adrien manages to get out before the door to the Great Hall slams shut behind the class
"... tomorrow." He said with a sigh of annoyance. After a while, Adrien clears off the table of the dirty dishes left behind, while the fire in the hearth in the middle of the hall dies out, and a few vikings that were there when the class was, were gone, leaving Adrien alone in the dark hall. Deciding that he needed more light, Adrien had lit a candle the was left on the table and went to get a second one before he sat on the bench of the table and opens the cover of the Dragon Manual
"Dragon classifications." Adrien read from the first page, starting off his studying session.
"Strike class. Fear class. Mystery class." He listed as he continues to read the first page before turning it to the next page.
"Hawkmoth Thunderdrum." Adrien reads aloud as he sees the picture of the dragon on the first page of the double-page spread the dragons facts took up.
"This reclusive dragon inhabits sea caves and dark tide pools." He said before looking at the second page of the dragon's facts.
"When startled, the Hawkmoth Thunderdrum produces a concussive sound that can kill a man at close range." Adrien reads as he sees a picture of the Hawkmoth Thunderdrum, roaring in front of a decapitated viking.
"Extremely dangerous. Kill on sight." He reads out at the bottom of the page as another picture depicts a viking with a sword and shield, stabbing the dragon in its stomach. Once he finished reading the sentence, Adrien flips through pages to the next dragon.
"Rena Rouge Timberjack." Adrien read from the page as he sees the picture of the dragon on its first page of facts.
"This gigantic creature has razor-sharp wings that can slice through full-grown trees, and can create illusions using light and the colour of its wings," He said as he looked at a picture of said dragon cutting through a line of trees like a warm knife through butter, and at another picture of the same dragon using its wings to confuse a viking with illusions before slicing it in half.
"Extremely dangerous. Kill on sight." Adrien reads out before he turns to the next page.
"Queen Wasp Scauldron." He said as he saw the next dragon on its pages of facts.
"Sprays scalding, and paralysing water at its victim." Adrien readout as he looked at the picture of the Scauldron spraying a viking with its paralysing water.
"Extremely dangerous." He continues to read before a lightning and thunder strike pulls Adrien's attention from the book and towards the ajar door as lightning flashes outside. But Adrien pulls out of his shock and goes back to reading, turning a few pages to the next dragon.
"Vanisher Changwing." Adrien reads, seeing a picture of the dragon on the page.
"Even newly hatched dragons spray acid. Kill on sight" He reads before turning a few more pages to a random dragon in the book.
"Carapace Gronkle. King Monkey Queen Bee Zippleback. The Copy-Cat Skrill. Aspik Bonekapper. Kuro Neko Whispering Death." Adrien listed as he turns through the pages, landing on random dragons, while he imagines them slightly moving on the page, while their roars were heard in the seeming distance. He continues to turn the pages of the book and read what various unnamed dragons did to their victims.
"Burns its victims. Buries its victims. Chokes its victims. Turns its victims inside out." He reads out as he continues turning through the pages.
"Extremely dangerous. Extremely dangerous. Kill on sight. Kill on sight. Kill on sight." Adrien repeats as he flips through the book. But after saying 'kill on sight' for the third time, Adrien stopped reading the word out-loud and flipped through the last few pages and reached the end of the book, where the last page was almost completely blank.
"Chat Noir Fury." He said, reading the two words at the top of the nearly blank page, before looking to the rest of the words at the bottom of the page.
"Speed unknown. Size unknown. The unholy offspring of destruction and death itself. Never engage this dragon. Your only chance; hide and pray it doesn't find you." Adrien worriedly said, before he takes out his sketchbook and opened it to the page with the drawing of the Chat Noir Fury. With that, he blew out the candles, puts them away, takes the book home with him to give back to Gorilla in the morning, and walked home in the pouring rain.
