Chapter 9: Seeing Red

A/N: I hope you all enjoy it!

Roger's POV:

Still two days ago

"My apologies. I wanted to bring you breakfast and a change of clothes before we headed back. I will leave a note next time, I promise.", I peppered kisses all over Auden's face.

He huffed again before lowering his head to my neck nuzzling against it. Auden's nose inhaled my scent as I rubbed his back, gently up and down, a physical reminder that I am here with him.

"Are you ready to get out of the rain?" I asked him as my hand moved up to scratch at his scalp.

He growled lowly before he sat up, straddling me as he took the coffee cup out of my right hand. He sipped it before he nodded in approval as he stood up offering me his hand.

I took his hand with a smirk, I pressed a kiss against his cheek. Auden leaned into my touch, returning the kiss before he grumbled, "I hate the rain"

"Why is that?", I asked as I interlocked the fingers of our free hands together and started to walk in the direction of home.

"it messes with my sense of smell", He huffed out before drinking more of the coffee, "speaking of which Nia hates coffee"

"Really? Maybe she hasn't had the right blend", I shook my head lightly as another lightning strike flashed through the sky.

"She prefers tea", He told me before I felt him lightly tug on my hand, "What else ya got, Peaches?"

"A few donuts I did take a lot of blood from you last night", I scanned his body to see if any of the bite marks I left on him yesterday were still visible.

Everything was healed over aside from my claim bite on his ankle. I licked my lips at the sight, how could it look so perfect?

A shiver went through my body at the thought of our mates wearing the same bite forever. Auden leaned down his lips brushing against the claim bite he left on my neck, "Thanks, peaches"

It didn't take us very long to get back to my house. Upon entering the house the rain became a harsh downpour with strong wind speeds.

Auden literally shook himself off like a dog and I laughed at the sight. He flipped me off as he snatched the bag of doughnuts out of my hand, pulling out a sprinkled one and munching on it.

The sound of someone coming down the stairs took my attention, looking up I saw it was Gannon, "I brought doughnuts for everyone"

"Nia, Cody, and I were trying to find out more about her curse mark, and I let go of control.", Gannon paused to pinch the bridge of his nose, "Nia hasn't woken up since"

Auden dropped the donuts and his mostly empty coffee cup, I grabbed them before they hit the ground. Auden started to shake before growling, "What the fuck do you mean?"

I moved into the kitchen, placing the doughnuts on the counter, and rushed back to Auden's side, placing my hand on his shoulder, "We'll handle this together. Nia will be ok"

Auden clasped a hand over mine, breathing deeply and slowly he was still again, "This wasn't your fault, Cupcake. Maybe it's residual fae magic interfering with yours and that's why she passed out. I'll hunt that fae down, and force them to wake her".

"Let's not go off half-cocked. We don't even know if that is true '', I warned as I squeezed his shoulder gently, "Messing with Faes is no joke. They are one of the most powerful magic wielders in the world"

I heard the sound of someone coming down the stairs, the scent of after it rains wafted over the staircase before Cody came in sight, shoving down a plain white t-shirt and buttoning blue jeans on.

"What if he is right? I don't like the thought of any creature hurting our woman and us doing nothing when we could have. I'll be bait, in case the fae is still in the area", Cody says as he shifts to look and sound like Nia, "We could've missed something in our rush to get Nia to safety."

Cody was right, there is something we can do for her now. I want to be a part, no matter the price Nia is worth it.

"I'll drive then" I announced as I looked at Gannon, taking in how exhausted he looked.

"No! I can't stand the thought of one or all of you getting hurt out there, please just wait until the morning at least" Gannon pleaded, his green eyes widening.

"We'll text you, and keep you updated. If anything gets too dangerous, we'll leave. Please Cupcake, trust us. We'll be back before breakfast", Auden moved forward cupping Gannon's face in his hands before giving him a quick peck.

"Nothing I say will change your mind, huh?" Gannon sighed.

"No, Sorry", We all spoke at the same time, Cody giggled and my lips twitched with a smile.

Gannon groaned loudly before he kissed Auden's forehead, which made his whole body glimmer for a moment in purple. He gave the same kiss to Cody's forehead and mine, "A little insurance that you'll come back safe. Please be careful"

"We will", I promised him, giving him a deep quick kiss.

I led the way to the garage, grabbing the key off the hook, I unlocked my cherry red Porsche Panamera and opened the doors for them. Auden whistled as he slid into the front passenger seat, "Nice car. Just how rich are you, Peaches?"

I closed his car door as well as Cody's before I got into the car and opened the garage door, "I'm very well off, partly family wealth, partly my own"

Once we hit the road I glanced back at Cody, "Can you tell us everything that happened and don't spare any details please"

Cody locked his fingers together, squeezing his hands on and off as he followed my request perfectly. By the time he finished, we were once again parked in front of that abandoned building, the rain was somehow still coming down hard and heavy.

I was glad for it, the sound and smell of it would hide our approach. Another thing I was glad for is that the door was already cracked open.

"This is ridiculous, We shouldn't be cleaning up her mess", A male voice hissed out in clear irritation.

"We have no other choice, Pierce", A different male voice spoke sounding exhausted, "Let's get this over with"

Before I could turn my head and start to explain some sort of a plan, Auden shifted into his wolf form and ran inside. I moved in front of Cody hiding him from sight as I watched the Fae inside the building start to jump back from Auden's advance.

"Whoa!" The Fae called out as he stopped in a crouch, his pure white hair settinging down on his back, like moonlight in motion.

A black satchel on his worn faded blue shirt, which matched his dirty ripped jeans. The clothes seemed to be pushed to their limits, as in a size or two too small for the Fae's wide muscular frame. Their body reminded me of a superhero from a comic, with broad shoulders and a tiny waist. the Fae held a jar of blood in their other hand, which was being pushed into their satchel, Nia's blood.

The Fae's red eyes bounced between me and Auden, they were clear like rubies and I felt pulled in by them. They focused on me, "Can you call off your wolf? I am just doing my job here."

Cody moved from behind me, placing his hands on his hips as he spoke with heavy sass in Nia's voice, in her body, "Is that job using your magic to brainwash me and make me your blood drip bitch? What are you doing with my blood anyway?"

I looked around the place trying to catch sight of the owner of the other voice, but I found nothing. Straining my hearing I didn't hear anyone running or trying to slowly get away from this building.

The Fae's attention moved to Cody, while Auden inched closer and closer to the Fae without a sound. The Fae tilted their head to the side before a deep frown appeared on their face.

"No. My job is to carry out my owner's will and right now I have to return. Don't get in my way or else this will get messy" the Fae said, their eyes not leaving Cody-Nia's for a moment.

Auden jumped forward, mouth wide, and aimed at the satchel but the Fae moved to the side at the last second. They pulled out a blade from their satchel and sliced Auden's side from his front leg to his back leg.

Searing hot pain tore through the side of my body, mirroring Auden's injury without any physical evidence. Proof again that he and I have claimed each other, I inhaled deeply focusing in my rage that my mate has been hurt.

I moved faster than I ever had before, gripping the Fae by their neck. I smacked the fae to the ground still gripping their neck, I snatched the blade from the fae, licking Auden's blood off of it before I sliced the Fae's right cheek, from their nose to their pointed ear. Blood for blood.

The fae cried out as the blood from the cut started to bubble and pop, the scent of it becoming less mouthwatering. I glanced over at Auden to see that he was writhing in pain.

I lifted the blade to hover above the Fae's right eye, ignoring the feeling of prickling and fog that had been spreading through me from the moment my skin touched theirs, "What are you going to do with the blood?"

Auden whined a sound of pain that twisted my gut like nothing else ever did in the past. My control slipped a little on my anger to the point where red was tinting my vision and my lower fangs throbbed to be released.

Cody rushed to Auden's side, "It's ok. You'll heal in no time"

"No, he won't. Actually, if he heals it will only spread faster. I have the only cure in my satchel.", The fae started to explain and I ripped the satchel off of him and tossed it to Cody.

Cody opened the satchel, I could hear him going through every pocket and zipper, "It's empty"

"Fae magic, only I can take things out and put them inside the satchel. I will get him the cure, all he has to do is drink it but you have to allow me to leave, is it a deal?" The fae explained glancing over at Cody before looking at me as he proposed the deal.

"No. You can't just leave you're our mate", I spit out the fact while suppressing the urge to tremble in the pain I feel through Auden's bond before adding, "And we need answers now"
