65/ Mother Nature Made You, So Repsect Her Creation
I've already made a chapter about body images and loving the skin you're in, but I think that there were some things that I haven't mentioned before and that need to be talked about.
Shaving is one thing which I know a lot of teenagers can be confused about. Do I have to shave? Will people find me more attractive if I shave? The answer is no. If you want to shave for yourself, because you like the feeling of your silky smooth legs under your trousers or you like the feeling of having shaved armpits, then go ahead. Get that shaving cream out. But never shave for someone else, or because you think that you need to. Body hair is a natural thing, and it's up to you what you do with it.
Obviously it's important to keep things tidy and clean, so some trimming may be needed if you choose not to shave. One really important thing that I want to stress while I'm on this topic is this. Don't shame someone else for shaving or not shaving, let them do whatever the hell they want to do with their body. It's not your choice what someone does with their body.
Stretch marks can also be a point of frustration for teenagers as well. I cried when I first noticed my stretch marks on my body, but as time has gone I've kind of forgotten about them. No one is looking at them, and I promise you they aren't ugly. At the end of the day, they're just signals that you've been growing, and what's wrong with that?
So rule sixty five of surviving Teenagehood: it's your choice what you do with your body, never let anyone make you feel less than for your choices.
