Dangerous Type

~Millard's POV~

"H-how?" I stuttered. Fiona had just revealed to us that they had been in contact with wights, and I for one, was worried. Why did the wights kill their fathers? How did they know about them?

"They said they were very little." Fiona explained. "And they didn't ever find them, but you know how well wights can hide."

"What does this mean?" Jacob asked.

"It means that the wights most likely know they are the sons and daughters of ymbrynes." I explained. "They obviously believe that they are dangerous. And if it's dangerous to wights, it's dangerous."

"Jesus." Jacob said, running a hand through his hair.

"Georgina, what is the thing with them?" Emma asked. Georgina looked white in the face as we told her the story. She swallowed and said,

"It's another Tale. One that we don't read to peculiars, due to the dark nature.

"Long ago, there was a man, who from a young age, was very disturbed. He would yell things in his sleep, go into some type of weird trance, and do things that even scared the ymbrynes."

"So, Enoch and Horace's love child." Hugh said. We glared at him.

"Anyways," Georgina said with another glare to Hugh. "This person was scary. The oddest thing about him though, was that he was peculiar, yet no one could figure out his peculiarity. He could enter loops, and fight hollows, yet he did not have a peculiarity. Until one day.

"In an old, lost ymbryne script, there were instructions on how to contact the spirit world of peculiars. The young man tried these rituals, and his peculiarity was revealed. He began to contact the spirit world on a daily basis, and with each contact, he would lose a bit of his soul."

"So, his peculiarity was like a horocrux?" Jacob asked.

"A what?" Georgina asked skeptically.

"You know what, I don't have time to explain Harry Potter, go on." Jacob said.

"Like I said, he was losing his soul. Now, legend believes that he did not lose parts of his soul until the one hundredth or so time, and it was only then it was noticeable.

"This is where the Tale becomes confusing. You see, it is written in an extremely old form of Old Peculiar, so it's hard to translate, and the text itself is not all together.

"Something dangerous happened with the man and caused him to go into insanity, but not before he could reproduce. Legend has it that his descendants all carry the mark an ymbryne imprinted on him when she stopped him, the Bird Mark. The mark they all have." Georgina said, pointing to where Emily, Luke, Charlie, and Natalie were huddled, speaking in low voices, in what sounded like Spanish.

"Why have I never heard this?" I asked Georgina. In reality, I should have been asking Miss Peregrine this question. Miss Peregrine has known me since the day I became fully invisible, and knew how much I loved old and confusing legends. If she knew this, why wouldn't she share it with me?

"It's a confusing legend." Georgina said. "The ymbrynes prefer to not tell their wards, due to many unanswered questions. And the fact that it is just a legend, not a true story."

"Why didn't the ymbrynes freak out once they saw that they were communicators?" Emma asked. "They clearly saw it."

"It's not totally odd to have a spiritual communication power." Georgina explained. "1 out of every 1000 peculiars have it, along with their primary peculiarity. The thing is, normal spirit communicators just talk to the dead. But those with the mark's actual souls drift to some purgatory, and they see the dead."

"Why does the mark cause such pain when you touch it?" Jacob asked.

"It's just an ymbrynes touch that can cause that." Georgina said.

"Charlie mentioned his grandfather knew it." Fiona said. "How was it possible for Miss Avocet to touch him?"

"It has to be a direct touch." Georgina explained. "Skin-on-skin. Miss Avocet or their grandfather may have found a way around that." She looked over to the four cousins, who were still speaking in Spanish.

"Miss Avocet will be in so much trouble." Georgina said.

"Why?" I asked.

"She broke two rules Millard," Georgina said. "She's done for."

"It's a shame." I said. "She was probably the strongest ymbryne."

"True." We all said.

I looked over our where the cousins were standing, and daw that they had huddled out and were with the other descendant of the ymbrynes, all singing some dumb song.

~Charlie's POV~

As soon as Percy had parked the car, I had ran out, grabbing Natalie's arm and pulling her with me. I had to talk to her, Emily, and Luke about what happened when Georgina put us in a shock.

"Charlie, what the hell?" She asked as I pulled her.

"I'll explain in a minute, Nat." I said to her in Spanish. Everyone in my family, except my dad, his sister, and her son, understood Spanish pretty well, since we're Argentine. Sure, we make mistakes a few times, but we're not novices.

"Emily, Luke!" I called as I saw them get out of cars. "Come here!" I said in Spanish.

"Did you see what I saw?" Emily asked me in Spanish.

"What was it?" Luke asked.

"I saw your dad." Emily said. "And Gramps, all standing in this whitish room, saying things I couldn't understand."

"I saw Trey, too." Natalie said. "There was also this old person, laughing, and it was weird!"

"What was it?" Luke asked.

Before I could respond, Max yelled at us.

"Hey, Natalia, Emilia, Lukio, and Charlio, what are you guys saying?"

"None of your business, asshole!" Emily said to him, in English.

Max shrugged and went to talk to Victoria, Percy, and TJ.

"Did your guys also see an avocet?" Emily asked, in Spanish.

"Yeah, now that I think about it." Luke said.

"Maybe it has to do something with our grandmother." Emily suggested.

"You believe them?" I asked.

"We kind of have to." Emily said. "Besides, it would be nice to meet my grandmother."

"Are you kidding me?" Luke and I asked her.

"You do realize this woman abandoned three kids with Gramps, and left him heartbroken in a ton of debt, right?" Luke said.

"And she's never cared to look for us, or any of her children? One of which has died, probably thanks to her." I said.

"Well, it sounded like she had to." Emily argued.

"Emily, she left our parents." Natalie said.

"Natalie, you usually take my side on these kind of things!" Emily said to her.

"She emotionally scared Aunt Lucia, Aunt Sandra, and my dad." Natalie said. "I don't know what I feel for her."

"Who replaced Natalie with Emily?" I asked. Natalie stepped on my toe, causing me to wince in pain and my twin and cousin to laugh.

"On a more serious note," Emily said, still giggling a bit. "Should we keep this a secret?"

"As always." Luke said. "And figure it out later. Right now, we have a grandmother to worry about."

We nodded and went over to where Max, Victoria, TJ, and Percy were standing.

"Hey, what was the Spanish about?" Victoria asked.

"Family stuff." Emily said. "How has your trips been?"

"Okayish." Natalie responded. "I woke up to All Star."

"You guys were screaming All Star?" Emily asked, raising an eyebrow at me, Percy, and TJ. We all gave her a mischievous smile and shrugged.

"It's the best song ever, Em." I argued.

"It should be in the Bible or something." TJ added.

"Didn't you guys wreck while singing that?" Max asked.

"No, that was the Spice Girls." Emily said, smirking at me.

"You wrecked to 'Wannabe'?" Luke asked with a laugh.

"Say You'll be There." Emily corrected him. Victoria, Max, Luke, and Emily began laughing while Percy defended us.

"It's the best Spice Girls' song!" He said. "Last time that we had this conversation, I decided we should be friends!"

"But now," Natalie sang. "We're going 'round in circles, tell me when will this deja vu ever end!"

"Any fool can see they're falling," Emily and Victoria sang. "I better make you understand."

"I'm giving you everything!" We all began to sing. "All that joy can bring this I swear. And all that I want from you-"

That's when Millard walked up to us and asked what we were singing.

"Not the Spice Girls!" Percy said. We all rolled our eyes.

"What are the Spice Girls?" Millard asked. Natalie gasped, shocked someone didn't know one of her favorite girl groups, and idol, Victoria Beckham, or Posh.

"A 90s girl group." Jake quickly explained. "Jeez, you guys love 90s music."

"She loves 90s music." TJ said, pointing at Natalie. "We just enjoy the corny stuff."

"It was the best era for music!" Natalie defended. "And I don't like all 90s music!"

"Yeah, you hate *Nsync." Luke said.

"They're a rip-off of the Backstreet Boys! Seriously, you only here Justin and JC's voices, and Chris's in, like, one song! You can hear all the Backstreet Boys' voices in many songs. Sure,-" Natalie said before Luke put a hand over her mouth.

"So, why did we stop?" Max asked.

"Fiona told us you guys have encountered these men with no irises." Emma said. "They are called wights, and they're also an enemy to peculiars."

"Fiona just felt the need to tell us." Jacob said.

"Why didn't you just tell them over the phone?" I asked Fiona. She turned red while beginning addressed, and turned to Emma.

"You rode in the car down with her." Emma said. "You know she doesn't talk much in front of other people."

"She talked to us, for what? An hour?" Percy said.

"Yeah, we had a full blown conversation with her." I added.

"WHAT?!" Emma and Hugh practically screamed.

"It took me almost a month to get a sentence out of her!" Hugh said.

"You do understand that Fiona is right there." Natalie said.

We all turned to Fiona who was just standing there, trying hard not to be noticeable.

"We better get back on the road." Jake said, as of he was trying to stop a fight. "If we leave now, we can be at the loop entrance in 30 minutes."

"Yeah, let's go." I said as TJ, Percy, Natalie, and I walked back to TJ's car. TJ and Natalie got in the front, while Percy and I got in the back. I saw Fiona still standing outside, unsure of where to go.

"Hey, Fiona!" I yelled at her. "You coming?"

She ran as fast as she could for a pregnant teenager to the car, as I made room for her.

"Does he really treat you like that?" Natalie asked her as TJ put the car back in drive.

"Like what?" Fiona asked.

"Like you're not there." Percy explained. "Like you're five years old."

"I've always been one of the more special cases in my loop." Fiona said sadly. "Usually people do the speaking for me."

"Why?" I asked.

"I don't really like talking to those who I don't know." She said. "I've never had much trust in other people."

"Understandable." I said. "People suck."

For the rest of the drive, we remained quiet. TJ occasionally turned on the radio, Natalie and him singing to some song, while Percy looked out the window in boredom. Fiona fell asleep within the first few minutes of the drive, obviously exhausted form being up all night, not to mention pregnant.

I tried to sleep a bit as well, but my mind didn't let me. Thoughts of what I saw earlier kept me up. How did that girl do that to me? Why did I see my dead loved ones? Was it different for each one of us? I didn't see Trey Barker, but Natalie said she did.

Another unanswered question then floated into my brain. How did Jacob Portman find out about any of this? I could just read his mind and find out, but I only do that when necessary, since it feels so wrong to do it otherwise.

That's when it hit me. Portman!

I grabbed my phone and called Emily, praying she would answer. She answered on the third ring.

"Charlie?" She asked.

"Emily, do you remember Abe?" I asked her, in Spanish.

Natalie overheard my conversation and turned around, her  mouth  wide open. She made the connection, too.

"Of course!" Emily answered in Spanish. "Oh my god, Charlie, do you think he related to Jacob?"

"I overheard Abe talking with Mom and Dad about his grandson." I told her. "That may be Jacob!"

"What about the others?" Emily asked. "Do you think they knew Abe?"

"Maybe." I responded. "Just maybe."

Finally, I had an idea of what was going on.

A/N: So, the new book is out!!!!!! Yay!

And, disclaimer for the rest of the story. I'm not going to add in anything from the Map of Days, because I've worked on this story for awhile, and the Map of Days sort of kills it.

This will be sort of an AU of what could have happened after Library of Souls.

Also, this is my fanfiction, I can do whatever I want in it. If you don't like it, don't read it!

See ya later~ Beth
