Chapter 5

Survival Tip #6
Anything can be useful if you make it out to be.

Chapter Five:

"Why am I coming back?" Faith whispered, her hands holding onto Jansen's arm, her nails digging into her skin. She gazed around the area they were walking through, small tents scattering all around the grass. "I thought I was ok."

Jansen only pulled her closer, humming softly to keep her mate's attention, "I just want to make sure you're ok." And to be hundred percent about you being a wolf.

Faith narrowed her eyes, suddenly hearing a lying beating. She stared at Jansen, who gave her a smile before looking away. The sound, a beating heart, was making a racket in my head. She blinked a couple times, shaking her head at a connecting thought. I can hear her heart beat.

She stumbled a little, relaying on Jansen as she caught her foot steps. Faith didn't make eye contact as she rushed inside the building, something beating against her head. She wanted to scream, yell, cry.

What's happening to me? She pulled her hair, lowering herself to the floor. Everting around her blurred, the figures waking in the new building shifting between her eyes. Her breath cane out in hard pants. Oh, my god. Why is everything so loud?

Jansen was by her side in a second, her hands shaking as she came to her mate's rescue. "Faith?" When she went to touch her, her hands aiming for her shoulders, a loud growl echoed against the halls. The doctors and nurses came around, splitting off into different directions. A couple stayed there, but most left to give her space. "Baby?"

Then there was a large crack. Faith's body was completely on the floor, sprawled out like a dead person. Faith's eyes snapped open, gasping for breath as she chocked on the pain. There was a burning sensation in her core, shaking all her limbs.

There was no doubt about it— she was shifting.

Faith didn't know where it was coming from, but there was a howl and a voice in her mind. She never heard of anything like this before. A soft, familiar whispered in her heart and mind. Whatever it is, Faith felt burning tears down her face, needs to back the fuck off. She begged herself to scream, make any noise, but she was silent to human noises. What freaked her out even more was the fact that she was whimpering— like a disgusting dog.

Faith's hand, slowly morphing into a paw, reached out, slashing across Jansen's chest as she hoped to grasp onto something that could hold her put. She was blacking out, and the darkness scared her. Her fear started to affected her wolf, making her shake and whimper for her mate.

Even if she lied to us.

Using what was left of her strength, she turned her head, seeing Jansen. The Beta was patting her hair, touching her muscles to loosen them. Faith felt like she was getting shocked, and she hoped that could stop the torture she was feeling. She forced her gaze away, staring at her body as her skin stretched and her bones snapped. Large patches of fur started to spout through her skin like a seed's steam braking through the dirt for their first glimpse of sun light.

What's happening to me? Faith squeezed her fingers together, only realizing that she couldn't. They were paws. Paw pads. Claws. Fur. No thumb.

She screamed— a howl echoing from her mouth. This has to be a joke. A terrible joke. She refused to believe the thoughts she was thinking. She wanted nothing to do with them. She left her home for this. She couldn't be. She can't. She wasn't.

Oh, but you are, Faith. She shook her head, even the voice in her head going against her. I'm really here. Honestly, and it's wonderful to meet my human. Faith shook her head again, and the motion made her neck snapped. She twisted and turn, no longer comfortable on her back. When her head hit the floor hard, she was knocked out.

As she shifted, everyone backed up— giving her room. It was painful to watch, and Jansen wondered if she was alright. The Beta's inner wolf was already communicating with her mate, hoping her words would be useful.

She turned her head towards a nurse, "Where is the damn doctor? Where the fuck is he?" She snapped, and the small woman scattered into the hallway. She turned to another one, seething, "Go get the Alphas, now!"

When she looked down again, her mate was actually looking like a wolf. It was a nasty sight— Faith wasn't accepting the transformation. Jansen felt tears in her eyes grow stronger, please, don't let her die, brother.

Then almost like the eye of the storm passed, Faith relaxed, and her body finished. Jansen crawled over her, petting her pelt as she whimpered with joy. "You're alright. You're alight," she cried, the tears finally falling, but not from sadness or anger. Her mate's fur ruffled against her own skin, the calming effects already happening to them both.

"It's going to be ok, Mate," she whispered as she tapped her mate's dog nose. The sparks flying through her body as she smiled down, never feeling happier. Her mate's wolf form was beautiful— along with her human form. "Look at you," she cooed. "Goddess, I love you so much." Leaving down, she kissed her mate's, pushing her tears from her face.

"Jansen!" Gem yelled, pushing through the doors. Her eyes search the area, finding her sister in the floor, on top of a wolf. For a second, a heart beat, she thought Faith Grizzly was dead, but then she spotted the rise and fall of the beating flank of the wolf. Faith was breathing; Faith was alive. How do we get so lucky?

Jansen turned to her sister, smiling, "She's a wolf."

Gem threw her head back into a laugh, joyful for her sister and her mate.

Maybe she will accept me, despite hating our kind. She must know that we all aren't villains and monsters— because she isn't one.
