Chapter 1
Survival Tip #2
You can not relay on others to save you; you must have the determination to do it yourself.
Chapter One:
Jansen stared down at her mate when she slept. She cringe at her mate's unhealthy looks. Poor baby, how long was she out there?
She wanted to hold her, run her palm against her face, but she didn't, in fear of upsetting her or even hurting her.
"Jansen?" The woman turned around, seeing her mother smiling at her. She was so distracted by her mate's well-being that she didn't notice her mother. Without missing a beat, she gripped her mother's forearm, guiding her to a chair.
Her mother huffed, unhappy about the idea of always being a damsel, but was grateful for the help. "Thank you. How is she doing?"
Jansen shrugged, before commenting her thoughts. "Doc said she was healing, but since she was dehydrated they're going to have to put tubes down her throat to get her to drink." Turning to her mate, she forced a question to her mother. "What do you think her name is?"
Her mother smiled sadly, "I don't know. You'll learn soon enough." Taking a pause, her mother whispered, "Describe her to me, please."
Jansen smiled, coming to sit next her her mother, her blind mother. "She has blond hair with really sun burned skin, but I think she's pretty tan. Her eyes, when I saw them, were dead, but then again, she was staring at my wolf." Leaning her head against her mother's shoulders, she whispered, "She has a button nose and I couldn't tell you about her lips."
Her mother smiled and nodded. The past Luna imagine her daughter in law— I get another baby girl.
"I think Jimmy brought her to me." Jansen whispered, "He always put family first."
Her mother smiled, "I'm sure he did. Stubborn like Gem and thoughtful like you."
"Am I not thoughtful, mother?" Gem joked, entering the room. In her hands, she held a small basket full of treats and food. With a smile, she handed the food to her sister. "I know you haven't ate lunch, and don't try to lie."
Jansen grabbed the basket, her stomach growling. She stood up, hugging her sister tightly. "Thanks."
Gem nodded, returning her hug. The two sister stood there, hugging each other to death. "She'll wake up soon, ok?" While letting go of her sister, Gem looked at her mother. "Mom, dad has been looking everywhere for you. Come."
The past Luna stood up, patting Jansen on the shoulder. "Stay with her, but remember that she doesn't want to wake up to a stinky mate." With a wave, Gem lead her to her father.
He would of mind linked her, but after the years of wolfsbane in werewolf history, the communication slowly disappeared. Sometimes, the ability came back through genetics, but there wasn't enough wolves who could do it anyways. That wolf would be screaming into their mind, waiting for someone to respond.
Jensen ended up staying there for weeks, only moving when she was forced to work, eat, or clean herself. Every time she was pulled away, the person taking her was lucky if the only thing she did was hit them.
Worry about what her human mate thought of the mate bond, or the will of the Moon Goddess, she went to Hunter, her brother-in-law. More like Moon Brother. Nah, that sounds stupid. She got the same advice every time: "Your just going to have to play it by her rules."
"When will she wake up?" She asked every seven minutes, every five minutes, every three minutes, every two minutes. It was unending; after the words came out of her mouth, she would asked again.
The doctors and nurses weren't too happy about that, but they couldn't help but be happy for the she-wolf. The lost of her brother, Jimmy Lupin, hit her harder than anyone else. It was painful. She buried herself into her work; it was almost fate when she went to the beach for a break.
Jimmy and the Moon Goddess have a weird way of helping me out. She rested her head in her palm, fixing her mate's hair with the other hand. She smiled when she saw her lips slowly regain color. Her hair was healthier. Her skin healed from the sun burns, and she was lucky not to get skin cancer.
Although, there was a cure. It was hard to come around nowadays— not that would stop me from getting it.
As she waited, she cleaned her small tent she had been living in, making sure her mate would like it and making sure it was safe for her body after only Goddess knows how long she was at sea.
Her heart clenched at the idea of her mate being alone, with no unattractive company, with no food, with no water. What the hell happened to her boat? The war wasn't fought in the water or air.
Her hand in her mate's hair slowly fell to her lips, touching them gently. She felt like a some creep, touching a woman while she was sleeping. But I love feeling the sparks, and I wonder if she could feel them to.
If she did, she showed no sign. Her heart beat stayed at the correct rhythm, along with her breathing. In and out, up and down, beep pause beep. It was a pattern that Jensen grew to love. She actually loved everything about her little mate, and can't wait to see her eyes, hear her voice, and know her name.
"Jensen," Hunter spoke once he got into the door way, leaning against the wall. He had to remain himself that it wasn't Paige on the bed when she first back from Alaska. Although, their wounds were different, it was still a horrible sight to see. "Time for a shower."
