Proper RP Etiquette

This is the second chapter that will be quite lengthy, so be prepared! But do try to listen to this advice, as it may save you some trouble in the future.

To start, follow the rules set by the owner of the rp!!! I cannot state this enough! If you continuously break the rules set by the owner, you're going to upset them and there's a chance you will be removed from the rp book, or ignored. Also do not try to skirt around the rules, as this sets an awkward position for the owner. If they say no smut, do not try to start anything with smut. If they say no cursing, don't use cursing!

Pay attention to your partner's character! It's very upsetting to watch someone else fulfill what they want, but have your own character feel out of place and unwanted. Use the golden rule!!! Don't treat their character in a way that you wouldn't want yours to be treated, and treat theirs in a way you would want yours to be treated.

Always put out the same energy you're getting from them. If they pay a lot of attention to your character and your character's crush/friends, do the same with theirs! Seriously, double check to make sure you're taking care of your rp partner.

NEVER try to upstage each other! There's nothing more irritating than when someone tries to make their character stronger, better, faster, sicker, weaker, or just plain overplayed. If character A is strong, don't go out of your way to make your character stronger than theirs. It's OK to have the same amount of strength, or differ in strengths.

Same goes for angsty plots. Since these are made to purposely put your characters in a tough position, don't try to make your character have it so incredibly worse than the others, so much so that you can't even compare it. If one character comes down with the flu, don't automatically make it so that your character gets diagnosed with cancer. That's a huge leap and completely puts down the other person and their characters.

However! Discuss these things with your partner! If they are 100% okay with this stuff, then you've got the green light. This also doesn't apply to small differences, that've been there from the beginning. For example, it's obvious that a big bulky character will be stronger than a small wispy one. That's a different story, and the above issues don't apply.

Once again, make sure you're taking care of your partner and their character!

-•-•-•-

Control. You keep yours and your partner will keep theirs. Never ever try to control your partner's character, or force them to act one way by changing the scene to your will. It's unflattering and very off putting for your partner.
For example:

If I want my character to get chocolate ice cream, they can have chocolate ice cream. Do not reply saying that they changed their mind and got vanilla. Also do not reply saying that the vendor was magically out of chocolate, so my character had to get vanilla anyway.

This applies to much more than ice cream flavors. Think of fight scenes, interactions, dialogue and more. Plain and simple: Don't control other people's characters!
