I placed a bowl of salad in front of Soren who looked up from his newspaper, giving it a distasteful look, "Since when do I eat heathy?"
"Since I realised we've only eaten burgers and chips since we've met each other." I placed his folk and knife down next to plate and watched as Soren turned his nose up to it, pushing it away, "Are you gagging?"
"Did you know that 67% of vegetables have been sprayed with pesticides? It's killing the bugs sure, but what is it doing to us?" He poked at the salad, holding up a green leaf, "Look. It's to perfect to be organically grown."
I put my hands on my hips, "I see a perfectly normal, heathy lettuce leaf. Stop being a snobby rich boy and each your lunch."
I ruffled his hair on the way past, ignoring his grumbles of protest.
This job was move eventual than the smoothie bar, better pay and has a better reputation but it was less easy going. They weren't happy that I missed my first day of work but I was staying into the night today to repay them.
I leant against the kitchen opening, waiting for the chief to hand me a platter of food to serve. My eyes focused on Soren who place a piece of lettuce in his mouth, gag then swallow.
Good boy.
"The Foster kid just threw his juice box at my head." Caleb (my new coworker) groaned as he leant against the wall, "Those things are dangerous."
I laughed checking his injuries, only to see a small red mark on his forehead. The Foster triplet were little devils who came with their work-at-home dad, I honestly couldn't wait until they were old enough for school.
"I honestly never thought you'd be the bad boy type." His said conversation, helping me put a platter of coffee and toasties on my hand.
"Soren isn't the bad boy type." Caleb rolled his eyes at me, "I'm serious."
"Let me guess, sad past that now controls his present." He looked at Soren with disgust, "it's quite sad, he needs to get over—"
"Let me guess, your mother got sick of you being at home throwing your life away so she forced you to get a job. You've never had a relationship over 6 months because no women could ever handle your judgemental attitude." I looked him straight in the eyes, "Don't complain to me about Soren being sad excuse for a person, look in the mirror."
His eyes widened and I covered my mouth, "I'm so sorry, that just came out." Completely out of embarrassment I took the tray and went to table that had ordered.
It was when I was clearing the mugs and plates of the table did Soren stretched and walk over to me, "Because you're doing a late shift I think I'll head home."
I nodded and placed the a coffee mug on the trace, "Stay safe."
"Will do." He hugged from behind and I stiffened, then he was gone before I could even react. Soren turned to walk out before saying in an afterthought tone, "Soren hug...I'm only taking orders."
"Soren hug? What?"
He smirked and shrugged, "That's what you said we drove you to hospital."
My face went bright red as he exited the cafe, Caleb walked up to me and watched him leave, "You were saying."
I don't keep a lot of secrets from my father, only the things they would worry him and he could do nothing about. Such as me getting a concussion due to Soren trampling me after a four years old child tied his shoelaces together. Nothing that important.
I barely remember that night but the basics were went to the hospital, they did test to make sure I didn't have brain bleeding and thankfully it was just bruising of the brain. The only thing I do remember is waking up holding Soren's hand.

Christmas was in two weeks meaning the annual Christmas Ball my father hosted was in a week, the day I would be forced into a suit.
I'd never taken a partner with me but as I walked through the falling snow my brain started to hitch a plan. Jay wouldn't be allowed in just because of her class so that meant I'd have to create her into proper, classy women.
I groaned in pain realising that I'd have have to be proper as well. Concluding another reason I hated Christmas. Pulling out my phone I texted Colin's old phone number,
Are you free tonight?
She texted back around ten minutes later.
Well, the wage for this job is the smoothie bar and the tattoo parlour wages combined! No more night shifts ;)
I laid back on Bucks dusty old couch and took a deep breathe, feeling a calming wave ripple through my body, blowing the smoke out of my nose.
I, Soren McKinin shall turn you into a princess, literally. Project; My Fair Lady.
Buck handed me a shot which I gulped down without looking at what it was, staring at the dots that told me she was typing.
What? Are you drunk?
I blinked once before standing up and stretching, putting a hand on Bucks shoulder, "Well, this has been fun but time go."
"Sure bud," He clasped my hand and gave me a lopsided grin, I looked at him for a long moment.
"Buck, what's your real name?" He his lazy smile slowly faded and he seemed to zone out, "Buck?"
He looked somewhere across the room, "Honestly kid, I don't remember."

Jay's house was gleaming in Christmas lights and I couldn't help but smile, she walked out pulling up her fluffy hood.
"Um, Jay. Sorry to inform you but a reindeer vomited on your house." She nudged my shoulder playfully before turning around and staring up at her work adoringly, "it's beautiful, isn't it?"
"Sure."
We started walking and Jay talked about her day, what she'd learnt in class, she talked about food in general.
I covered her mouth with a gloved hand, "Jay, there's only so much you can say about food."
She smiled under my fingers, her voice muffled, "What's project My Fair Lady?"
My hands stuffed in my pockets I took a deep breath, "My dad has annual Christmas Ball, I mean massive marble halls with people waltzing, big dresses. It's mainly to make business deals for him but to us boys, we have to have partners."
I watched in horror as Jay's face lit up like a Christmas tree, her smiled widened.
"So," I continued looking wearily at her excited face, "Someone of your class, no offence can't come. Meaning I have to create you into something presentable."
She screamed in happiness, making me jump as she punching the air. I watched in horror as she did a weird happy day, "Project My Fair Lady!!"
I shook my head in amazement, knocking on Bucks front door who opened it quickly, "Soren? You came ba—"
"Haven't seen you in awhile." I gave him a glare, watching him peep over my shoulder to look at Jay, "I need to borrow a room."
He cocked an eyebrow at me, "Can you please change the sheets—"
"What!" Jay peered over my shoulder in horror and I held up a hand, "Not like that Buck, we're only talking."
He winked, "Sure."
Buck gave us the directions to his lounge room and Jay sat on a white couch as I stood in front of her.
"Stand up, Jay." I ordered and closed my eyes in horror, "Shoulders back, chin up high, look me in the eyes."
I grabbed her chin and pulled it up to an respectful height, "Look me in the eyes with confidence even if you're acting, don't look nervous or weak."
"Soren, I can't do this."
"Soren, I do not believe I can complete this project in this small time limit." I corrected, watching her mouth drop from my posh accent.
