Quirk

Quirks are the main thing in My Hero Academia. With a quirk, you are seen as important and elite. You can get into hero schools, become successful and be known for your strengths. Or you can take over the world, wreaking havoc with your super cool abilities. But you can't do jack if you don't actually have one, so let's help you find one!

Once again, let's run you over some do's and don'ts!

Do not:

- Make your quirk godlike. It is canon that Deku will be the number 1 hero in the future and he is also the main character. If you're immensely powerful then it'd impossible for him to be the strongest and it would just ruin the storyline.

- Make your quirk perfect. Giving your quirk no drawbacks or repercussions makes it boring. There's no point in training out a quirk that gives you no hardships. Make it exciting! Also don't make your quirk perfect right off the bat. Most people make their oc's students of Class 1-A, a class that people are in so that can train their quirks to become better. If your quirk is perfected already then there is no point in training it.

Quirks

Quirks come with a variety of abilities, names and drawbacks. It is canon that no two people can have the same quirk unless they're related so spice it up! Some people subconsciously give their oc a quirk similar to their favourite character. This is a bad idea as it makes them pretty much the same and linking back to what I said last chapter, these people should be original. Having a student like Uraraka in the class whilst their is also a student with the same abilities of a shulker from Minecraft is uncreative.

There are what I like to call "Base Superpowers." These are things like super strength, super speed, flight, healing, weather control etc. Everyone's heard of these abilities and while it's fine to give them to your oc's, I don't recommend it. Most people in My Hero Academia possess a unique and unheard of power. I mean, have you ever heard of somebody who has tape dispensers on their elbows that shoot out infinite tape strong enough to swing from? Didn't think so. If you're making your first ever mha oc, you might want to take a basic superpower and add some fun details to it. For example, maybe your oc has a quirk similar to the gift of Pepa Madrigal from Encanto, where their emotions are what controls the weather and not them. Or maybe they have a quirk called 'Give and Take' where they can heal people by leeching others of their health. I only recommend this technique for beginners though. Sometimes it's a good idea to look around and make something up from the things you see.

For example, I am currently sitting, typing this obviously. The first thing I can see when I look up is a mirror. Maybe the oc has mirrors in their elbows that can be used like prisms to reflect light. Or maybe they can use mirrors like gateways. Don't restrict yourself. Come up with whatever you please and as long as you can link it back to the thing you saw, you're all set.

I'll write out some examples using the things I can see in case you need more help :D

Painting - Anything the user paints comes to life / User can hide themselves inside of paintings
Wooden Table - The user can turn things to wood / Solidify anything, even air
My two fat dogs - The user can speak to dogs / Turn into a dog
My dogs spiky chew toy - The user can summon spikes out of any surface in the same way a hedgehog summons their quills.
The walls - The user can walk up any surface
My mam's bag - The user's quirk grants them a magical bag that had endless space. They can put millions upon millions of things in there and they'll still have room

Honestly there are no rules, you don't have to take inspiration from the things around you. I recommend quirk books if you're seriously struggling. Ooorrr if that's not really your thing and you prefer not having to choose a specific power, I recommend googling "All kinetic abilities" and going into powerlisting fandom. There you can just scroll through, click one at random without knowing what it does and you're able to repeat this over and over till you're happy.

Drawbacks

Drawbacks should be appropriate for the quirk that your oc has. It makes no sense for an oc with a quirk that controls water to get burn marks from it. What would be more appropriate is that the oc would become dehydrated or that they often get dry skin from all the condensation. Also, quirks should have a limit. Don't make their abilities infinite. Make it so that they can only use their quirk to a certain extent until the drawbacks become too much to bear.
