Types of aesthetics. It's important to first understand aesthetics and the basics of them in order to have a neat and consistent content. To be honest, if you use an aesthetic and it turn out that you don't like it anymore, I'd keep it. The readers who've read so far would kind be confused with a change in aesthetic but it's not a must, that's just my opiNon.
So first you can just have plain coloured aesthetic. For example you can mix different aesthetic but make them have the same colours and colour gradient. For example;
I'd say these two suit each other well. The first picture had more of a grungy/edgy look and the second was more of an innocent/kawaii pastel look. However together, some wouldn't tell the difference. However, what would to matching coloured images with two different aesthetics look like if I DONT alter the images with Vsco filters sksksksk
⤹Grunge/Baddie
⤹ Kawaii Pastel
Hmmm.... yeah it kinda matches but... it could use some work. That's why when matching images of two different aesthetics, be sure use the same filters for both images. On VSCO there's a tab where you can save filters so instead of applying the filters OVER AGAIN you can just press the button and it's down for you.
Anyways, let's discuss the many types of aesthetic and some characteristics of each.
Grunge/ Edgy
•Includes goth, eboy/egirl and grunge
•dark, but not limited to black
•edgy concepts: smoking, drinking etc.
•dark lighting/dark filters
Kawaii (Pastel)
•Japanese inspired
•Heavily includes but not limited to pink
•light/pale/pastel colours
•adorable
•kawaii concepts: animals, light colours
Pink Goth(I kinda made this one up because I wanted to be part of some sort of aesthetic lol)
•cute
•Daddy Kinky (ddlg)
•pink plasterers
•black and pink
•kind of a mix of kawaii pastel and grunge
•pink hearts
•Sanrio characters. Mostly the characters "Kuromi" and "My Melody" because they are everywhere on pink goth posts
•includes: pastel goth, baby girl aesthetic, ddlg aesthetic and MAYBE at a push a dark nymphet aesthetic
Baddie
•neutral/nude colours
•I recommend that the girls you use as models should have makeup called 'beat'. Search "beat face makeup" for examples
•Velvet/silky material textures
•badass women
•Instagram glamour/beauty
Vaporwave
•purple, pink, blue are common vaporwave colours
•Some textures would look like 8-bit video games
•includes: Microsoft apps, Microsoft errors, phone errors, Greek gods (stream Greek God by Conan Gray pwease), Japanese writing, Vaporwave music would be nice touch if you need to include it in your story. A popular one would be "Home - Resonance"
Minimal
•Plain and simple
•Would use it of you want a professional book that stands for beauty, class and elegance
•colours should be black and (majority) white ONLY. Gray could be used as well but only if it's a small portion of gray. The only other exception would be green in plants but again, can't take up a WHOLE image
Y2K
•Late 90s, early 2000 look
•Inspired by Bratz, Barbie and Powerpuff Girls
•Brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Playboy are used heavily in this aesthetic
•Some stuff may include: old phones/computer monitors, the aesthetic is VERY pink, silky/velvet fabric, heartthrob edits (look them up and I have a tutorial on my other book), sparkly jewellery are also used
Nymphet
•Innocent
•Mature yet young
•Basically inspired by the movie Lolita lol
•Includes: White clothes, angels, cute porcelain animals, old art paintings
Retro
•Never seen Stranger things but it's basically that sort of look
•Also Conan Gray is a great muse for the retro aesthetic
•This is mostly 80s era
Hope this book helps anyone who is writing a story! Also people who just want to be aesthetic I guess... Please check out my "how to be an egirl" book if you're interested in that too!
