Firstly, your main character must have a name. This name will be a prefix and then -kit at first, and then change to the same prefix and then -paw. When the character becomes a warrior, the -paw suffix will be replaced with a unique suffix, completing it's warrior name. If your main character becomes a leader, their suffix gets changed once again to -star. 

So which prefixes and suffixes are you able to use?

But prefixes like 'tiny' aren't very good, because all kits start off tiny and then increase in size. Don't name your character things that cats don't know like Chairtail or Computerface. Don't name your character Star____. don't name your character a gem or stone of any kind, like Diamondwing or Emeraldgaze. 

Naming your cat after it's appearance, personality, or even random things like weather or a plant or animal (not giraffetail or anything, but animals that warriors know, like voletooth or snaketail) is a good way to name them. You could even name your character after a family member or some other cat.

Suffixes also tend to be hard. The same rules apply to them as prefixes- don't name your cat Sandshoe or something like that, but also, don't use cliche suffixes. The suffixes -tail and -wing are used way to many times. Try to give them a suffix based on their personality. Eg. A calm, sweet cat would be given the suffix -pool, an energetic cat would be given the suffix -bounce and a commanding, angry/strong cat would be given the suffix -claw or -frost. 

Another thing to keep in mind when you're naming your cat is it's clan. Usually, Riverclan cats get their names from the river, like Minnowtail or Piketooth or Sunfish. You wouldn't give a cat that lived in the dry desert a name like Runningwater, or a Riverclan cat a name like Pineshade. Name them after their clan traits.
