Epilogue

kill the monsters while they are little

Epilogue:

The rain stopped falling, and the group by the temple waited to hear back from Gem and Hunter. It seemed like days till their figures came into view, breaking from the fallen trees. Gem was being carried by Hunter, who was surprisingly unharmed from the previous battle.

Sage was the first to run towards them, tears in her eyes. Hunter didn't look her in the face, only telling her where Paige's body was. Sage gave Hunter a kiss on the check, a friendly smile at Gem before going to Paige's body, where she would have her undisturbed time with her little sister.

Jansen Lupin quickly came to her sister's aid, tears for the lost of their brother, but a smile for the life of her mother, father, and sister. Alpha Lupin was found, barley breathing over his dead son's body. Luna Lupin was alive, but never to see again, even with her werewolf healing abilities.

Celeste came up to Gem too, happy that everything was over. She had already found Susan bleeding out, taking her to a doctor quickly. They will both be fine, fully healed in no time.

"Oh, Gem." Jansen cried out, cupping her sister's cheek. Gem smiled softly, making her face hurt even more. "I'll take her inside."

Hunter nodded, handing over Gem to her sister. Gem whined, but after Hunter promised to see her and get himself check, she became quiet.

It seemed like everyone was staring at him. He killed the monster, while killing his sister, and was declared an Alpha by traditions. In a span of a few seconds, he became a Leader and an Alpha to hundreds.

"She's died," he called out, confirming the news. Another stabbed came to his heart, making him stumbled as he walked away, not saying anything else. Sage would bring Paige's body, and they would have a proper burial for her. I'll be damned if anything else fucking happens.

The temple was no longer a home, but a grave yard and a hospital. Every stepped Hunter took, he grimaced, seeing dead and dying bodies, the images of Gem getting beaten flashed in his mind, and after that, the dying eyes of Paige.

"Alpha Kill," a wolf spoke, bowing it's head. "Luna Kill is this way."

It's weird being an Alpha, or at least, getting called by it. Hunter stayed silent, her eyes looking for the love of his life. He saw her the moment he walked into the room. She was lying on an of bed next to her mother and father.

Alpha Lupin would always have a limp in his walk, and would live out the rest of his life with a breathing problem from his crushed ribs. Luna Lupin was blind, but her scent of smell and her hearing would improve to make up for the lost. Jansen would have long scars down her back, but it didn't strain her body in anyway.

For Gem, my beautiful Gem, she would have a scared face, a forever reminder of what the monster did. She had one coming over her eyes, barley missing the same faith her mother had gotten. Gem's ankle would never fully heal, and a bite mark would remain there till her body would be nothing but a pile of bones.

"Thank you, Alpha Kill." The wolf whispered, disappearing into the hallway.

Hunter could walk forward, his steps echoing loudly off the floor of the quiet room. Once he reached his mate, he kissed her on the check.

"They say the scars will never fade," she whispered, leaning her head against his shoulder. "My ankle would forever be in this miserable state." She sighed, "My mother's fucking blind. My brother is dead. My father will never be the same Alpha he once was."

She stared at Hunter, feeling even more sorry for the both of them. "I'm sorry."

Hunter kissed her forehead, not bothered by the scars. "I love you."

Gem whimpered, "I love you too."

The two stared at her each other, leaning their foreheads together. They would have stayed their all night of it wasn't for Luna Lupin, who suddenly woke up.

"Hunter," her voice came out as a croak, "come here." Carefully, Hunter came to her side, and after a couple of tries, the Luna's hand was comfortably on his face. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm fine," he swallowed. "How are you?"

The Luna only smiled softly. "I just know it could have been worst. Thank you."

Hunter nodded his head, speaking nothing.

"I know what it's like to lose a family member, but I don't know what it's like the lose your last one. The Moon Goddess will watch over you, and your family."

The Luna fell asleep after that, leaving Hunter alone, for Gem had fallen asleep too.

When Hunter woke up the next morning, after a long deserved, long rested sleep, most of the wolves and vampires in critical conditioned died.

Sage was devastated to wake up and to find her father died, his body disappearing. He wasn't alive anymore, his wish, his curse, his blessing, dying after Sage was safe after the war.

It took her an hour to understand, and she fell silent for days. Regretting the days where she refused to talk to him, hating herself that she never spoke her forgiveness to him.

"He knows," Charles spoke, "he knew."

Sage nodded her head. Hunter nodded his head. Gem nodded her head. Celeste nodded her head. Susan nodded her head.

They all knew the cost of war, the truth behind the monster, and the price their all had paid.

They all connect to one thought in the end: not everyone gets happy endings.
