Chapter 38
i feel the worst when i'm alone because that's when the monsters in my head say hello
Chapter Thirty-Seven:
The weather was peaceful, the sun finally shinning through the clouds. It was burning them, like a weapon would, it was giving them hope.
Gem held her upset mate's hand, knowing she fucked up big time. She leaned her head in his shoulder, but he pushed her away.
She whined, and quickly went to her mother, avoiding her father's stare.
"What's wrong?" Luna Lupin quickly asked, bringing her daughter in for a hug. Jimmy watched their father, making sure to step in if Hunter and him fought. Jansen stares at the interaction, leaving her sister and mother some privacy. "Gem, I can't help you if you don't talk to me."
Gem looked up from her mother's shoulder, tears running down her face in big fat rolls. "I turned him. I didn't ask." She gasped at her self, shaking as she sobbed. "Mom, I'm a terrible mate. I forced him into become a wolf."
Her mother tighten her grip, and Jimmy left to speak with Hunter. He knew he couldn't force him to forgive Gem, but he would try. His main reason in going to Hunter, going to be future brother-in-law, was to help him adjust for his wolf.
"Hunter," he called out, and the older Kill stopped. He stood there, waiting for Jimmy Lupin to come stand beside him. "Everything all right?"
Hunter moved his shirt from his shoulder, showing the bite of his mark, turning and marking him.
That's one big ass bite. Well done, Gem. He thought, only if you got his consent.
Jimmy nodded, "Are you ok?"
Hunter shrugged, shaking his head and running his hands down his face. "I don't know, Jim."
For the time Hunter was separated from Gem, he bonded with Jimmy, or Jim, as he liked to call him. Hunter found out that if he took the Alpha title, Jimmy Lupin would become his Beta.
"She never actually fully explained this stuff to me. I mean, she mentioned it, but other things came up." Hunter remembered when he first put Paige in that building. How he and Gem were in the bedroom talking and cuddling.
Jimmy sighed, rip the bandaid off. "I have two things to tell. I'm going to help you, with your wolf and the bond. It's going to take some time, but I'm here and Gem is going to here when you want her. Second, I know my older sister messed up. She's going to be working the rest of her life to fix her mistake."
Hunter nodded his head, "I know." I never knew you could hate and love someone at the same time with so much passion.
"Please don't leave her. She loves you so much."
Hunter smiled softly, "Even if I'm upset with her, I don't think I could ever leave her, Jim." Just the idea of the control Gem had on him scared him, as it would do any other human, but Hunter would put his life in Gem's hands, even when they were fighting.
Jimmy patted his back, chucking. "How about we do some border patrol? Get your new nose in the game?"
Hunter agreed, and they both marched through the thick snow and towards the trees. Hunter sneezed here and there, stupid scents, as they walked.
Jimmy would occasionally point out smells. "Those are some berries, which do wonders for healers." He pointed to a bush. He then quickly point to a tree, "These trees are the best for building tables and chairs."
God, I mean Goddess, maybe being a wolf isn't so bad. He chucked, till his new nose picked something up.
"Vampires," Jimmy growled. I fucking hate those guys.
Hunter understood the dead smell, but something felt familiar. He grabbed onto Jimmy's shoulder, making him stand in place with his newly strengthen force.
His lips grew into a smile, and the sun lightened the darken forest as it continued to rise in the sky.
Sage walked through the woods, and behind her was her long lost — pronounced — dead father and another man Hunter had never seen. They were leading a group vampires towards them, but the look on Sage's face told him that she finally understood.
"Sage," he spoke, bringing Jimmy closer. "Long time no see."
Sage nodded her head, a bite mark clearly visible in her neck. "You saw me a couple of weeks ago, Kill. Stop being so dramatic."
Hunter pulled her into a hug, making Jimmy trust the newly turned vampire, but he was slightly growing at the contact the two were having. He's mated, Sage— if that's really your name. He stared at the older man, clearly going through some rough times in his life.
Neither made a move to give each other a hand shake, they just nodded their heads, waiting for the two friends to back away from each other.
"I'm sorry," Sage whispered, "I really am."
Hunter kissed her forehead, making Jimmy growl growl again. You're fucking mated, Hunter. Hunter gave him a look to silence him, and the future Beta rolled his eyes.
Sage suddenly gasped, "I have some news." She turned around and motioned one of the many vampires behind her to come forward.
Sage couldn't help, but stare as the vampire walked towards her. God, can't he walk any faster.
Hunger watched as a tall — taller than him — and lanky vampire walked up to Sage. The blood sucker was quick to pull his beloved close to him.
He brought his lips to her neck, kissing it softly.
"Hello," he chucked, staring at the man who hanged out with his beloved a lot. "I'm Charles, Sage's beloved."
Hunter gave a confused look. What the hell is a beloved?
Jimmy groaned at the lack of information Hunter knew. "It's basically a vampire mate, but most vampires have actually started to call them mates."
Charles rolled his eyes. It's beloved, not mate. These mutts are trying to change our culture.
