"Lucy?"
"Natsu?"
"What are you doing in the woods?" He asked, flabbergasted that the angel sent from heaven was standing in front of him again and looking at him intentionally with her beautiful eyes.
"I should be asking you that question." She joked. Natsu chuckled nervously and answered, "Just in a little trouble with a friend."
Lucy clicked her tongue and Natsu saw her glance down at his hand that held two phones.
"Stole your friend's phone?" She guessed. Natsu nodded and she rolled her eyes and smiled. She then waved him over.
"Walk with me, I don't have people do it often." Natsu grinned and practically pranced over to her.
The two walked and made small conversations about random things until down the dirt path led to a rural area and Natsu started getting confused. He didn't remember Lucy living in a rural area.
"I'm visiting my grandmother's house. You don't mind staying for a while do you?" She asked. Natsu shrugged.
"I can stay."
Lucy smiled and kept going down the road until they reached the old house that Natsu assumed was her grandmother's. It had a fading pastel-like blue that started to peel, along with a red trim that looked in just as bad shape as the blue. It looked like any house you'd see in the rural area. A cozy porch, a tree with an old tire as a swing that was held up by a mossy rope. Natsu started to imagine living here with Lucy.
Lucy knocked twice on the door and stepped in without a warning, and an overly confused Natsu followed behind. His jaw dropped as he saw the inside of the house. It was a completely different story on the inside of this cute little house! Natsu imagined walls that were painted with an ongoing pattern of birds sitting on flower branches, old dusty furniture, and everything else you can think of that looked outdated. He was more than 100% wrong.
The walls were painted neatly with a pasty white that turned into a dark oak wood as he walked into the kitchen, there were pictures of monochrome family members hung in black frames with gold-plated labels stating the year and names. The furniture looked like it was updated 2 months ago, and the kitchen supplies were flawless. Everything was spick and span.
"Grandma Anna!" Lucy called, setting her bag in a modern sphere chair. Natsu knew he shouldn't be in a house like this. There was too much white he could easily make dirty. He avoided every white area possible and stepped over white rugs that were put on the floor.
"Lucy! I haven't seen you in centuries!" A woman's voice cheered. Natsu came face to face with a woman who didn't even look like she could be considered a grandmother. What was going on?
"How was your last day of school?" The woman asked, completely oblivious to Natsu's presence. She put both her hands on Lucy's shoulder's and smiled. She looked exactly like Lucy with that smile!
"It was the same as Junior year," Lucy turned her head to look at Natsu, and he stood their still afraid to dirty this nice place up.
"This is Natsu, Grandma. He's a friend of mine."
Friend.
Anna cocked her head to look at him and she narrowed her eyes.
"Is this that damned bastard? How dare you hurt my granddaughter I'll crush you--"
"Grandma!" Lucy cut her off and stuck her arm out to separate Anna and him. Natsu furrowed his eyebrows and widened his eyes in a terrified deer-in-the-headlights look. Anna growled and balled her fist as a symbol of a beating. Natsu shivered.
The hell did she tell this woman about me?
Lucy laughed nervously and offered to make her grandmother banana bread while she talked about her school and social life, and it quickly calmed her down and Anna changed her attitude so quickly it almost seemed inhumanly possible.
Lucy had told Natsu to stay away from Anna for the time being, and he obeyed with relief of not having to be able to deal with that psycho.
"So, Lucy, how has your relationship with Dan been?" Anna asked casually.
Natsu almost choked on the lemonade that was given to him. He clasped his hand over his mouth to keep from spitting out his drink and stared at a guilty Lucy. She looked at Natsu with a terrified face and bit her lip. Natsu managed to swallow his lemonade and ask, "Dan? Who's Dan?" Natsu wanted to bite his fist in hopes that it wasn't Dan Straight.
Lucy breathed out and hesitated to answer until she muttered, "Dan is my boyfriend. He was in our 3rd quarter classes."
Natsu gaped and stared at Lucy in horror and glanced at Anna, who sat back with an amused position, crossing her legs, and tried to hide a smirk behind her hot cup of unsweetened tea.
And from there forward, Natsu declared his new foe that rose above Gray was Anna Heartfilia, Lucy's freakishly young grandmother.
